Casey KOA Journey Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Illinois, particularly in the vicinity of Casey, the Casey KOA Journey, located at 1248 E 1250th Rd, Casey, IL 62420, USA, offers a range of camping options. You can reach them at (800) 562-9113 or +1 800-562-9113. Based on the online reviews, let's explore the environment, services, and features of this KOA campground to help you decide if it's the right destination for your next camping adventure.
One recent reviewer who spent two nights at Casey KOA Journey reported a positive experience, particularly highlighting the cleanliness and functionality of the facilities. The laundry room was described as "clean and cozy," with the reviewer noting the current prices for washing ($2 for 25 minutes) and drying (a quarter for 5 minutes), along with the availability of four top-load washers and three dryers. The bathroom and shower facilities also received high praise for being "very clean." The showers were noted to have a wooden door that locks and a curtain to separate dry clothes from the shower area, and the "hot water in the showers was very nice," indicating a comfortable amenity.
The campsites themselves were described as being of a "nice size," each equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. The reviewer's site (lot 17) was reported to be level and featured a gravel driveway, which is often appreciated for ease of parking and setup. A significant positive aspect mentioned was the staff, who were described as "exceptionally wonderful." The reviewer stated they "would not hesitate to stay here again" and felt "safe and welcomed" during their visit, recommending the campground highly.
Regarding the environment, the reviewer noted some ambient noise, mentioning that traffic from I-70 could be muffled with a fan inside a camper if it were bothersome. They also mentioned a "sweet train in the distance," neither of which detracted from their positive experience. The location was also highlighted for its proximity to local attractions, being only about 15 minutes from the "big things" in Casey, an hour east of the Great Kaskaskia Dragon in Vandalia, and near Lincoln's parents' log cabin just north of Greenup. This suggests that Casey KOA Journey could serve as a convenient base for exploring the local area.
However, another review presents a starkly contrasting experience, particularly concerning interactions with the management regarding monthly stays. This reviewer recounted a negative phone conversation where they were allegedly told that the owner dislikes workers and long-term stays, fearing it would turn the campground into a "trashy trailer park." The reviewer further claimed they were quoted an exorbitant monthly rent and felt they were treated horribly, with the owner allegedly stating they were "upholding the KOA policy," which the reviewer found inconsistent with their experiences at other KOA campgrounds. This negative review strongly suggests issues with the management's attitude towards certain types of guests and recommends new ownership.
Considering these two very different perspectives, Casey KOA Journey appears to offer clean and well-maintained facilities, including a laundry room and bathrooms with good showers. The campsites are reasonably sized with essential amenities like picnic tables and fire rings. The staff, according to one reviewer, are exceptionally wonderful, contributing to a feeling of safety and welcome. The location is also convenient for exploring attractions in and around Casey, Illinois.
However, potential long-term stayers or those who might be perceived as "workers" may encounter a less welcoming reception based on the negative review. It's important for such individuals to be aware of this potential issue. For short-term visitors, particularly those looking for a clean and well-serviced campground while exploring the local area, Casey KOA Journey seems to have positive aspects to offer, as highlighted by the first reviewer.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Casey KOA Journey provides a range of amenities expected from a KOA campground, including clean facilities and well-equipped sites. Its proximity to Casey and other regional attractions makes it a potentially convenient stop. However, it's advisable to be aware of the contrasting review regarding the management's attitude, especially if you are considering a longer stay or fall into a category that the owner reportedly dislikes. For those seeking a shorter visit focused on exploring the area and appreciating clean amenities, Casey KOA Journey could be a good option, as long as expectations are set regarding potential noise from the nearby interstate and train tracks.
As a platform for finding "camping near me," we aim to provide a balanced view. Casey KOA Journey has received positive feedback regarding its cleanliness, facilities, and short-term stay experience, along with a convenient location for exploring local sights. However, the serious concerns raised by another reviewer about the management's treatment of potential long-term guests should not be ignored. We recommend that potential visitors consider both aspects when making their decision and perhaps contact the campground directly for clarification if considering an extended stay.

Apr 23, 2025 · Sharon CruseIf I could give 0 stars for this poor excuse of a campground I would. When I called to see if they had any monthly spots available I immediately was told “I hate workers and long term stays, I don’t need them because it turns my campground into a “trashy trailer park”. Continuing the conversation I asked if there was any way they would allow us to stay and he gave me a crazy monthly rent and then told me “I’m doing you a favor”. I proceeded to tell him that I’ve never been treated so horribly he then said “ I’m upholding the KoA policy”. Which doesn’t make sense because we just spent 9 months at a KOA in Wisconsin. Upon further conversation with other “trashy trailer workers” we are finding out he is not hanging up on people or telling them it will be over $2000 a month just to stay. I will be contacting KOA to see what can be done about this horrible judgmental person. Absolutely need new owners. I don’t understand why this guy is even in a personable business.
May 01, 2025 · Jennifer SymonPulled in at night, alone. Office was closed. I set up, and the manager came around about a hour later demanding payment. I told him have a credit card or I could give him a check and he demanded that I go across the highway to get cash. He Pulled up in a white truck with red and blue lights giving the appearance that he was a police officer. I explained to him that I couldn't drive at night and offered him my ID to hold and that I would go to the ATM first thing in the morning. He again demanded cash NOW. He refused to honor my KOA membership. So he made me pull up stakes in 18 degree weather and get him cash, I would have kept going except for the fact that my vision is not very good at night. I've never met anyone so rude. I will be canceling my membership with KOA. What's the purpose having it, when it won't be honored? Bright lights on all night, highway noise...this is a joke of a campground!
Dec 06, 2024 · Kathy CasteelGreat place to stop for the night. A bit of highway noise, but we didn't hardly notice it. Feels very safe. Facilities are adequate and kept clean. People are very nice. We stayed in a cabin - very serviceable for our needs. KOAs are always a great option when we travel.
Sep 22, 2024 · Kate BurkesNice location! Just slightly removed from town, so it's quiet. There's a pool and dog park. A good sized pond that some of the sites back up to. We've stayed here two years in a row. Making a reservation was easy and the scheduler was very pleasant.
