Cedar Creek Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a "camping near me" destination with a promising future and a range of outdoor activities, Cedar Creek Campground, located at 4531 NY-410, Lowville, NY 13367, presents an interesting option. Under new ownership, this campground is showing significant potential, particularly for those interested in exploring the Tug Hill region and enjoying ATV adventures. Based on recent customer reviews, let's delve into the environment, services, features, and ongoing developments at Cedar Creek Campground to help you decide if it's the right fit for your local camping needs.
The environment of Cedar Creek Campground appears to be diverse and appealing to various camping styles. The campground is described as having "several sections," indicating a variety of camping environments. One reviewer highlighted a "tent section completely wooded but nice flat sites," which would be ideal for those seeking a more traditional and immersive tenting experience in a natural setting. Additionally, there is a "large open field suitable for pull throughs and trailers," catering to RV campers with spacious and easily accessible sites. For those with campervans or smaller RVs, there are also other sections, some backing up to the woods offering larger and more private sites, as mentioned by one visitor who appreciated the space for their two labs.
In terms of services, the new ownership, particularly the owner Pat, is noted for being "personable and friendly" and "helpful," ensuring that guests have what they need during their stay. The willingness to accommodate a stay over Labor Day weekend, even when busy, suggests a commitment to customer service. The presence of "great campers" who are also helpful contributes to a positive community atmosphere within the campground.
Cedar Creek Campground boasts a variety of features and recreational amenities. For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground offers access to "some hiking trails" and an "adorable little fishing pond hidden away," providing opportunities for exploration and relaxation. For those looking for more active recreation, there is a "swimming pond," a "big playground" for children, tennis courts, a volleyball net, and horseshoe pits. A "nice pavilion" is also available, suggesting the campground can accommodate larger gatherings or provide a sheltered space for activities.
A significant feature of Cedar Creek Campground is its "ATV friendly" policy and its convenient location "near several roads and trails" suitable for ATV riding in the Tug Hill region. This makes it an excellent basecamp for local ATV enthusiasts looking to explore the area's renowned trails. The ability to bring ATVs directly to the campground is a major draw for this specific user group.
However, the reviews also provide an objective look at areas that are currently undergoing or in need of improvement. The "main bathhouse is dated" and could benefit from a thorough cleaning and potential upgrades. Similarly, the laundry facilities are "lacking vending or cost signage," which could be inconvenient for guests. A notable concern is the lack of bathhouse or toilets in the tent area, which could be a significant drawback for tent campers. The other bathhouse in the far field is also mentioned as needing cleaning and updates.
Despite these areas needing attention, the new owner, Pat, has "long term refurbishing goals" and plans to add cabins in the future. This indicates a commitment to improving the campground and enhancing the guest experience over time. Local users might find it encouraging that the new ownership is invested in the campground's future and is actively planning upgrades.
One reviewer who stayed midweek noted that the campground was quiet, which could be appealing to those seeking a peaceful retreat. However, it's worth considering that the atmosphere might be different during weekends or peak seasons.
For local residents seeking a "camping near me" experience that is particularly ATV-friendly and provides access to the Tug Hill trail system, Cedar Creek Campground is definitely worth considering. The diverse camping options, from wooded tent sites to spacious RV pull-throughs, cater to a wide range of preferences. The presence of recreational amenities like the swimming pond, playground, and sports facilities adds to its appeal for families and active individuals.
While the campground is currently undergoing refurbishment and has some areas that need improvement, the positive feedback regarding the helpful owners, the spacious and private campsites, and the existing amenities suggests a promising experience. The long-term plans for upgrades, including cabin additions, indicate a positive trajectory for the campground.

Cedar Creek Campground Reviews
Great place to camp. Owners are so helpful. Wanted to stay on labor day weekend no problem. Also Great campers and helpful. The weather wasn't best but made the best of it
Aug 12, 2024 · Lawrence KerrThis campground is under new ownership and the potential for an amazing campground is there. We have a class B campervan and brought our ATV’s for some Tug Hill adventures. The campground has several sections, a LOT of seasonals and they are well entrenched with structures, roofs, sheds and fences. We had a great site in the middle of a section that backed up to the woods, large and private, great for our two labs. There is a tent section completely wooded but nice flat sites. There’s a large open field suitable for pull throughs and trailers. We found some hiking trails and an adorable little fishing pond hidden away. There are definitely areas that need attention, the main bathhouse is dated, and could use a good sweep and vigorous scrub down, the laundry is also lacking vending or cost signage. There is NO bathhouse or toilets in the tent area and the other bathhouse in the far field really needs a good sweep of cobwebs and some updates. The owner Pat, personable and friendly, came by to make sure we had everything we needed. He has long term refurbishing goals and there’ll be some cabins down the road. We were at the campground midweek, so it was quiet. There’s a swimming pond, big playground, tennis courts, volleyball net, horseshoes and a nice pavilion for larger gatherings. This campground is ATV friendly and its location is near several roads and trails. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here and would come back.
Jun 15, 2024 · Ann-Marie DGreat camping experience. Camp goes above and beyond to fill most weekends with themes and events that include all age groups. New owners have really changed the feel of the place and they are consistently improving.
Aug 24, 2023 · Brian DehartCamped there for a weekend, constant dogs barking the entire time. I understand dogs barking, but all day (louder than my generator) it’s not a good experience.
Aug 05, 2024 · Nanack -Great place to camp- seasonal and transient sites available. Very well maintained! Activities and great owners! Highly recommend
