Point Folly Introduce
For local residents and those seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience in Connecticut, Point Folly Campground, located at 123 N Shore Rd, Bantam, CT 06750, offers a "great camping area" with a reputation for its peacefulness and natural beauty. You can reach them at (860) 567-0089 or their mobile number, +1 860-567-0089, for inquiries and reservations. Based on the provided customer reviews, Point Folly presents a unique camping environment along a peninsula, emphasizing an undeveloped and natural setting that has been cherished by visitors for decades.
The environment of Point Folly Campground is a significant highlight, described as a "beautiful area" with campsites situated "all along the peninsula." This unique geographical feature likely offers stunning views of the surrounding lake, providing a picturesque backdrop for a camping getaway. The fact that the area has remained "as undeveloped as ever" over at least 30 years suggests a commitment to preserving its natural charm and tranquility. Campers can expect to be immersed in the natural landscape of Litchfield County, Connecticut, known for its lakes, forests, and rolling hills.
One of the appealing features of Point Folly is that "most sites seem to be shaded & are fairly level." This is a considerable advantage for campers, as shaded sites offer relief from the sun, especially during warmer months, and level sites make setting up tents or parking campers much easier and more comfortable. The distribution of campsites along the peninsula likely provides a variety of perspectives and access points to the lake.
In terms of services, Point Folly Campground provides essential amenities for a comfortable, albeit somewhat rustic, camping experience. "Water spigots & rest rooms are located throughout the sites," indicating convenient access to water for drinking and basic hygiene needs. The reviews clarify that the restrooms are "pit toilets," which are a more primitive type of facility without running water or flushing mechanisms. It is important for campers to be aware of this as it contributes to the overall rustic nature of the campground. Additionally, a "dump site is also available," which is a valuable amenity for RV and trailer campers needing to dispose of their wastewater.
For those who enjoy angling, Point Folly offers "great spots to cast a line to try your hand at fishing." The lakeside location provides direct access to fishing opportunities, allowing campers to easily enjoy this relaxing and rewarding activity. The specific types of fish that might be found in the lake are not mentioned, but the availability of fishing is a significant draw for many outdoor enthusiasts.
A recurring theme in the customer reviews is the "peaceful" nature of Point Folly Campground. One reviewer explicitly states, "If you're looking for a peaceful area, then this is the place for you!" Another long-time visitor, who began camping there in 1980, emphasizes the "peacefulness and beauty" as primary reasons for their continued patronage over several decades. This strong endorsement of the campground's tranquility suggests that it offers a serene escape from the noise and stress of everyday life, making it an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation in nature.
It is also noteworthy that despite the presence of only pit toilets and the absence of showers, a long-term camper continues to return for the overall experience. This indicates that the beauty and peacefulness of Point Folly outweigh the lack of more modern amenities for many visitors who appreciate a more traditional and rustic camping experience.
Considering the information provided, Point Folly Campground offers a unique lakeside camping experience on a peninsula near Bantam, CT. Point Folly Reviews
Great camping area! We were last here over 30 years ago and were pleased to see that things have remained as undeveloped as ever. Beautiful area with sites all along the peninsula - most sites seem to be shaded & are fairly level. Water spigots & rest rooms are located throughout the sites. A dump site is also available. Great spots to cast a line to try your hand at fishing. If you're looking for a peaceful area, then this is the place for you!
Sep 24, 2024 · Karen “Kmini”I began camping here in 1980. My children loved it. They are all grown and we will be there in July this year. I was there opening weekend. There are pit toilets and no showers but I keep going back for the peacefulness and beauty.
Jun 16, 2023 · Ellen ThompsonI have been coming to Bantam Lake since I was younger....almost 35 years!!! Been camping at Point Folly for twenty plus years since getting out of the Marines, and look forward to getting up there camping every year....multiple times. Have hosted large Veteran's and Family outings there for years and couldn't ask for a better place!!! Not a huge fan of campgrounds that have all the bells and whistles and pack everyone in like rats-----I feel people build more friendly and family bonds in a place like this!! It is "Rustic" camping but we have learned through the years how to 5 star camp!!! The staff are wonderful and stay on top of the upkeep of the sites and area. The regulars that go here are great, and really have formed a close bond through the years, and really look out for each other and are quick to give a hand when someone is in need of a little help!!! The greatest part of the camping experience here is by far Bantam Lake surrounds you!!! Nature abounds as it is part of the White Memorial Conservation Preserve, and you can see birds and wildlife you wouldn't normally see --------yes even some big ole black bears at times!!! There are beautiful birds and cute critters and even some very large fish and some very large reptiles.....not for the squeamish ---------but fascinating to see in their natural habitat!!! It makes camping that much more like camping of yesteryear!!! Here are what may be detractors for those that come here thinking they are camping in one of those cookie cutter campgrounds-------------the bathrooms are outhouse style with pit toilets, no showers, no hookups for power and water, no gameroom, no bar, no mini golf, no horseshoes,no reserving sites on line or over the phone, you have to go there and pick out a site and see if its available ------do you get the picture-----it's rustic--------and for those of us that have made it part of our summer lives, it's perfect!!!While you're there ------ keep an eye on the sky-------you never know what you may see hovering over the lake, zigzagging across the sky, or falling into the lake!!! And Beware the "Bantam Phantom"!!!Happy Camping!!!
Jul 28, 2018 · Russ aka Winders TemplingMy favorite place to be! No electricity or showers but they do have pit toilets, fresh drinking water and a small camp store. If you want a place for piece & quite this is it. The guys that work here are very kind and helpful & are always patrolling to make sure things are safe and calm.
May 27, 2022 · Tammy Lee CyrHave been coming here nearly 30 years straight, family tradition since before I was born. The lake is always wonderful, staff are wonderful, and the effort they put into the conservation areas and trails are phenomenal. If you're looking for a traditional campsite experience with minimal amenities, pet-friendly, and right on the water, you can't find a better choice in the area. This is a traditional, semi-primitive campground. There is no electricity and bathrooms are only pit toilets. If you want something with more modern amenities you may not be prepared for the more minimal experience Point Folly offers.
