The environment surrounding Cedar Lake Recreation Site is characterized by the tranquil waters of Cedar Lake, framed by the lush, forested hills of the Ouachita National Forest. This setting provides a picturesque backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities and offers a peaceful escape into nature. The area is known for its natural beauty, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and enjoying the serene ambiance of a lake environment. Depending on the specific campground within the recreation site, campers can expect varying degrees of shade and proximity to the lake shore. The overall atmosphere is one of natural tranquility, making it an appealing destination for those seeking respite from urban life.
Cedar Lake Recreation Site offers different camping options to cater to various preferences and needs. Based on customer reviews, the site features at least two distinct campground areas: the North Shore campground and the South Shore campground. The North Shore campground is described as rustic, meaning that individual campsites do not have electric or water hookups. However, it provides essential amenities such as running water in the bath houses/restrooms and water spigots conveniently located throughout the campground. A significant advantage highlighted by visitors to the North Shore is its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, coupled with excellent maintenance and cleanliness. The minimal lighting in this area is also a notable feature for those who prefer a more natural nighttime environment. While one reviewer noted the proximity of some North Shore sites (like site 54) to the boat ramp and trailer parking, the overall experience seems positive, particularly due to the attentive camp hosts and the welcoming presence of their dog, Buddy.
In contrast, the South Shore campground offers sites with electric and water hookups, along with nice concrete pads for parking. This makes it a more convenient option for RV campers or those who prefer the added amenities. However, a reviewer mentioned that the shower house in the South Shore area takes a while to warm up. It's important to note this potential inconvenience when planning your stay in this section. Additionally, cell phone service in the South Shore area is reported to be weak, allowing for calls and texts but limited internet access. This is something to consider for those who need to stay connected.
The features of Cedar Lake Recreation Site are largely centered around its access to Cedar Lake and the surrounding natural environment. The presence of a boat ramp suggests opportunities for boating and fishing on the lake. Anglers can likely find a variety of fish species in Cedar Lake. The surrounding Ouachita National Forest offers numerous possibilities for hiking, nature walks, and wildlife observation. The quiet and peaceful environment, particularly in the North Shore campground, makes it an ideal location for relaxation and enjoying the sounds of nature. The well-maintained facilities, including restrooms and water access, contribute to a comfortable camping experience. The presence of camp hosts indicates a level of on-site support and assistance for campers.
Promotional information for Cedar Lake Recreation Site would likely emphasize the diverse camping options available, catering to both those seeking a rustic experience and those needing hookups. The beauty of Cedar Lake and the access to outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and hiking in the Ouachita National Forest would be key selling points. The positive reviews regarding the cleanliness, maintenance, and the peaceful atmosphere, especially in the North Shore, could be highlighted to attract visitors looking for a well-kept and tranquil "camping near me" location. For the South Shore, the availability of electric and water hookups would be promoted as a convenience for RVers and those who prefer more amenities. It might be beneficial for the management to address the feedback regarding the shower warm-up time and the cell service in their promotional materials or on booking platforms, perhaps by providing updates or managing expectations.
To get the most current information on availability, specific campsite details, fees, and any ongoing promotions, it is recommended to contact Cedar Lake Recreation Site directly via the provided phone numbers: (918) 653-2991 or +1 918-653-2991. Additionally, checking online camping reservation platforms or the website of the Ouachita National Forest may provide further details and allow for online booking. Cedar Lake Recreation Site appears to be a well-regarded "camping near me" option in southeastern Oklahoma, offering a blend of natural beauty, varied camping experiences, and essential amenities for a memorable outdoor getaway.

Cedar Lake Recreation Site Reviews
We stayed at the North Shore campground, site 54, March 7-15, 2025. This is a rustic campground, in that the sites do not have electric or water, but there is running water in the bath houses/restrooms, and there are water spigots throughout the campground. It is very quiet and peaceful, very well maintained, clean, and there is no unnecessary lighting around the campground - no giant poles with bright lights along the road or at the buildings. The minimal lighting is a huge plus for us!! The camp hosts are awesome, and so is their dog, Buddy, who paid us a visit that we thoroughly enjoyed. I'm rating it at 4 stars ONLY because I would have liked to know, prior to booking online, that my site was merely a stone's throw from the boat ramp and trailer parking. No one was disruptive, but it would have been nice to know before hand.
Mar 12, 2025 · Dena DasenbrockThe south shore has electric and water and nice concrete pads. The shower house takes awhile to warm up and the cell service is bad. Could get text and calls but no interest search.
Mar 18, 2025 · Tammy ClarkThis is by far my favorite camping area. It's family and dog friendly. The tent sites on North Shore are very spacious and clean. The bathrooms have showers and are kept pretty clean. The swimming areas are nice. I highly recommend this place.
Jun 23, 2024 · Ann JonesVery beautiful and peaceful. Surrounded by mountains and in the middle is the lake. A very beautiful and photographic landscape. The campsites are a little small and too close to each other, but we were fortunate that the day we camped there was no one around us. The restrooms are clean and have hot showers. The trails are nearby and very good for hiking. Lots of space for parking. The first come first serve basis of campsite booking is also a nice to have feature. Would definitely recommend this.
May 24, 2023 · ANIRUDDHA SUNEspent 3 nights here tents camping. real quiet place, we went in the middle of the week but there were no other campers in the whole area the entire stay. We camped close to the boat launch and over the entire stay 7 or 8 boaters/fishers came and went. The whole area was well kept and clean and Nicholas, the host/ area manager i believe was responsible for the immaculate upkeep. real nice guy for what it’s worth and very knowledgeable about the area.
