Cedar River Campsites Introduce
Looking for the perfect camping escape right here in your local area? Search no further than Cedar River Campsites, nestled at Cedar River Rd, Indian Lake, NY 12842, USA. As a featured campground in the 'camping near me' category, Cedar River Campsites offers a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Adirondacks. Based on real customer experiences and publicly available information, let's delve into what makes this campground a noteworthy option for your next outdoor adventure.
Embracing the Natural Environment: Views and Water Access
One of the standout features of Cedar River Campsites, frequently mentioned by visitors, is its stunning natural environment. Situated near the Cedar River Flow, the campground boasts picturesque views that many find captivating. Imagine waking up to the tranquil sounds of the river and being surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Adirondack region. For those who appreciate scenic beauty, Cedar River Campsites appears to be a location that delivers.
The proximity to the Cedar River Flow also opens up exciting opportunities for water-based activities. Kayaking enthusiasts will find the location particularly appealing, offering a chance to explore the waterways at their leisure. Fishing is another popular activity in the area, with at least one visitor specifically mentioning enjoying fishing in the vicinity. The presence of a nearby creek further enhances the appeal for those who enjoy the soothing sounds and sights of flowing water.
Campsite Characteristics and Privacy
Based on customer feedback, the campsites at Cedar River Campsites are clustered together. While this layout fosters a sense of community, it's important to note that individual sites might not offer extensive privacy. If you prioritize seclusion and a more isolated camping experience, this is a factor to consider. However, for those who appreciate being in closer proximity to other campers or are camping with a group, the clustered arrangement could be advantageous.
Facilities and Amenities: Understanding the Basics
It's crucial for any camper to understand the available facilities. At Cedar River Campsites, the toilet facilities are described as clustered pit toilets, meaning they are not located directly at each individual campsite but are available in designated areas. This is a common setup in many natural campgrounds, and while it provides essential sanitation, campers should be prepared for a short walk to access these facilities. If having a private or more modern restroom facility at your specific site is a priority, you might need to consider other options within the 'camping near me' category that offer such amenities.
Accessibility and Road Conditions
Planning your journey to the campsite is essential. One reviewer mentioned that the roads leading to Cedar River Campsites can be "interesting" and "shaky in spots," particularly depending on the time of year. This suggests that while the campground is accessible, it's wise to be prepared for potentially uneven road conditions. Drivers should exercise caution and consider the type of vehicle they are using, especially if traveling during seasons known for more challenging road conditions.
Wildlife Awareness: Being Prepared for Nature
Being in a natural environment like the Adirondacks means potential encounters with wildlife. One visitor explicitly mentioned finding bear poop while fishing in the area, highlighting the presence of bears. This serves as an important reminder for all campers to practice proper food storage and waste disposal techniques to minimize the risk of attracting wildlife. Being aware of the local wildlife and taking necessary precautions is a fundamental aspect of responsible camping in this region.
A Gateway to Further Exploration: Moose River Plains
For those seeking a different camping experience with potentially more privacy and individual pit toilets, one reviewer suggested continuing into the Moose River Plains area. This indicates that Cedar River Campsites can serve as a starting point for exploring other camping options in the vicinity. If, after considering the clustered nature and pit toilet facilities at Cedar River Campsites, you find it doesn't entirely meet your preferences, the nearby Moose River Plains might offer alternatives worth investigating within your 'camping near me' search.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal
While specific promotional offers aren't mentioned in the provided information, Cedar River Campsites inherently appeals to local users seeking an accessible and nature-rich camping experience. Its location within the Adirondacks, coupled with opportunities for fishing and kayaking, makes it an attractive option for weekend getaways or longer stays. For local residents of Indian Lake and surrounding areas, Cedar River Campsites provides a convenient way to connect with nature without extensive travel. Keep an eye out for any seasonal promotions or local discounts that might be advertised through local channels or online camping platforms under the 'camping near me' category.
Summary: A Local Gem for Nature Lovers
In conclusion, based on available information and real customer feedback, Cedar River Campsites presents itself as a "not bad" campground option for local users. Its key strengths lie in its scenic location near the Cedar River Flow, offering beautiful views and access to activities like kayaking and fishing. While the campsites are clustered and toilet facilities are communal pit toilets, the overall natural ambiance and opportunities for outdoor recreation make it a worthwhile consideration for those searching within the 'camping near me' category. Remember to be mindful of potential road conditions and the presence of wildlife, ensuring a safe and enjoyable camping experience in the heart of the Adirondacks.

Cedar River Campsites Reviews
My dad and I always come out to this spot for the views and some fishing. I've explored some of the sites and they looked pretty good, I haven't camped there as we camp In the moose river planes area but it definitely looks like a nice place! I'd definitely say be aware the roads can be interesting depending on time of year, and I definitely found some bear poop while fishing so be aware that's a possibility. But definitely go check it out
Sep 28, 2022 · Tim FeyerabendReally not bad campgrounds. These are clustered but have some privacy here, pit toilets are also clustered and not per spot. Otherwise nice spot with the Cedar River Flow right there. Great for kayakers/fishing. Nice creek nearby, shaky road in spots but not too bad. If you want more privacy or need a pit toilet, keep going into the Moose River Plains.
Sep 15, 2021 · Mark SaettaI have gone camping here many times, and I have always enjoyed it no matter the weather. this place is fantastic for anyone who wishes to experience the Adirondacks and for anyone who loves to go kayaking/canoeing. it is a great place for hiking and fishing, so long as you know the times of the year the fish are most active.
Oct 13, 2017 · Anthony HuntStayed at site number 5, I think. It was by the water in the woods just a little bit. Picnic table, fire ring and several outhouses nearby. Beautiful surroundings. There is a small landing to launch kayaks or canoes. A dam with some additional sites on the other side. Town is about 20-30 minutes away. Several trails nearby. Would recommend. Also would recommend traveling further in if you are looking for more sites.
Oct 10, 2018 · Matthew DWe got really lucky to get the first site next to a little pond just before the camping. Absolutely beautiful with many different hikes to do.
