Lewey Lake Campsite Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience within the stunning Adirondack region of New York, Lewey Lake Campsite, located on NY-30 in Sabael (12864, USA), offers a destination rich in natural beauty and outdoor activities. Situated directly on Lewey Lake, the campground boasts impressive views of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains, providing a picturesque backdrop for a memorable camping trip. Its convenient location near the larger and well-known Indian Lake further enhances its appeal, offering access to even more extensive recreational opportunities. Lewey Lake Campground is a popular choice, known for its array of activities and scenic setting, making it a prime consideration for those looking to immerse themselves in the Adirondack wilderness.
The environment at Lewey Lake Campsite is primarily defined by its lakeside location and the majestic presence of the Adirondack Mountains. Campers can expect to be surrounded by the pristine waters of Lewey Lake and the lush greenery of the Adirondack forests. The views of the mountains rising in the distance create a breathtaking panorama, particularly during sunrise and sunset. The air is fresh and clean, filled with the sounds of nature, such as birdsong and the gentle lapping of water against the shore. The terrain around the campsites likely varies, with some sites offering direct lake access and others nestled amongst the trees, providing shade and a sense of privacy. The overall atmosphere is one of natural tranquility, ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Lewey Lake Campground offers a wide range of outdoor activities to cater to various interests. Fishing in Lewey Lake is reported to be good, with a variety of native fish including northern pike, bass, perch, bullhead, and panfish. Anglers are advised that the southern end of the lake, near the Miami River, is particularly productive for fishing. For those who enjoy paddling, the lake is easily accessible for kayaking and canoeing, providing a fantastic way to explore the shoreline and enjoy the scenic views from the water. While motorboats are allowed, the boat launch site is noted to be in poor condition and challenging to use.
Swimming is another popular activity at Lewey Lake, although the beach area is described as very small. Campers should be aware of this limitation when planning their lake activities. Hiking enthusiasts will find great trails in the vicinity of Lewey Lake Campground, offering opportunities to explore the surrounding forests and potentially gain even more spectacular views of the lake and mountains. The proximity to Indian Lake also opens up additional hiking and recreational options in that larger area.
In terms of services, Lewey Lake Campground provides essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Shower facilities are available within the campground, offering a way to refresh after a day of outdoor activities. Garbage disposal facilities are also provided to help campers maintain a clean and environmentally responsible campsite. With 195 campsites, the campground is quite large, capable of accommodating a significant number of visitors. However, its popularity means that these sites tend to fill up quickly, and early reservations are strongly recommended, especially during peak seasons.
A notable feature, and one that potential campers should be aware of, is the occasional presence of black bears in the campground. One customer review recounts an encounter with a bear attempting to enter their tent. While the reviewer notes that bears tend to be more docile than hostile, such encounters can still be alarming. The review humorously suggests considering a camper or RV for overnight stays, as tents might feel less secure in bear country. This highlights the importance of practicing proper food storage and following any guidelines provided by the campground to minimize the risk of wildlife encounters. Despite this potential issue, the reviewer still speaks positively of the location, its trails, and the overall experience of waking up to the sounds of nature.
Given the popularity of Lewey Lake Campground and the Adirondack region in general, specific promotional information might vary depending on the season and availability. It is advisable to contact the campground directly via phone at (518) 648-5266 or +1 518-648-5266 to inquire about current rates, reservation policies, and any special offers or packages that might be available. Their staff can provide the most up-to-date information on pricing for tent and RV sites, as well as any potential discounts for extended stays or during off-peak periods. Additionally, they can inform campers about any specific regulations or recommendations regarding wildlife safety and campground rules.
The fact that Lewey Lake Campground is popular and fills up quickly suggests that many find the combination of lake access, mountain views, and recreational activities highly appealing. Even for those not staying overnight, the campground offers much to do for day-use visitors, making it a worthwhile destination for a day trip in the Adirondacks. If you are planning a visit to the Adirondack region and are looking for a campground that offers a blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure, Lewey Lake Campsite is definitely worth considering. Remember to make reservations well in advance and be prepared for the possibility of wildlife encounters by taking necessary precautions.

Lewey Lake Campsite Reviews
I almost got eaten by a black bear here. Still came back to visit any time relatives and friends were staying, but that was the last time I ever stayed overnight in a tent ngl. Great place, great trails, nothing negative about it. I'd recommend a campter/rv though... Tents feel like a 'bear burrito' even though they tend to be more docile than hostile, when one tries to get into your tent, it feels hostile. It's still a story I tell with a laugh. I live in the woods now because of staying at places like this. Nothing beats waking up to birds singing.

It is also conveniently located by the larger and more well known Indian Lake. A range of outdoor activities are offered at the campground including fishing, swimming, kayaking, and hiking. The lake is easy to access if you want to kayak or canoe. Motor boats are allowed but the boat launch site is run down and it is very hard to launch from here. Fishing in the lake is good. A variety of fish including northern pike, bass, perch, bullhead, and panfish are native to the lake. It is best to go to the southern end of the lake near the Miami River for the best fishing. The beach at the lake is very small. There are shower and garbage disposal facilities in the campground. Occasionally, bears are a nuisance in the campground. The campground is very popular. There are 195 campsites at the campground, but they fill up quickly. Aug 04, 2024 · Ryan MazierskiAbsolutely one of my favorite camp grounds in the area. I’ve visited many over the years and keep coming back here. Quite, beautiful views, easy access to both Lewey abs Indian lake. The sites are nice and well maintained. We will see you again soon I’m sure.
Sep 03, 2024 · Freya DeBenedettoWe rented site 82 for a few days. What a treat! We rented a canoe for a day and that was a blast!! The sites are nice and clean and well cared for. It was very quiet despite other reviews saying it's loud. If you go on a weekend you might encounter some younger people that are having fun and laughing, heaven forbid! We will definitely go back.
Jun 20, 2024 · Dana LaCeraisNo one told us at checkin that there was bridge work/construction going on directly next to our site. There were multiple jackhammers, and generators being used, it was not mild. The workers could plainly see us on our site. It was unbearable. We planned this trip for months, spent a lot of money for our equipment, we both took a week off from work, and traveled several hours with our two dogs. We left the first morning as the construction was due to go on all week. We should have been told about the construction DIRECTLY next to our site at checkin, and offered a different site.I am so immensely disappointed by this experience. We did everything right for this trip, and are responsible people. When I told them all this at checkout, I don't think the staff cared one bit. I won't recommend this place.
