Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground Introduce
For local users in Virginia and those seeking a "camping near me" experience with direct access to the Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground, located at 382 Campground Rd, Reedville, VA 22539, USA, presents a unique option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a beautiful waterfront location with specific amenities like covered boat slips and opportunities for crabbing. However, it's also important to note that some areas of the campground appear to be in need of maintenance, and it operates as a "no frills" facility. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, and features based on the available feedback.
The environment of Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground is undeniably its prime asset. Situated not far from the inlet to the Chesapeake Bay, the campground boasts a beautiful waterfront location, offering scenic views and direct access to the water. This proximity to the Bay provides opportunities for various water-related activities, as highlighted by the successful crabbing mentioned in one review. For boat owners, the availability of "covered slips" is a significant advantage, offering protection for vessels. However, one reviewer cautioned about navigating the channel markers when heading out, indicating shallow waters elsewhere. The campground is described as "very large," suggesting ample space and potentially a sense of being surrounded by nature. While one review noted an appearance of being "abandoned" in some areas due to potential understaffing and maintenance issues (such as an overgrown mini-golf course and a closed pool), the core natural beauty of the waterfront location remains a key environmental feature. The peaceful sounds of nature, as mentioned by a cabin renter, offer a welcome change from suburban environments, particularly when enjoying a campfire.
In terms of services and features, Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground offers a mix of amenities, some of which are highly appreciated while others appear to be underperforming. The availability of "huge multi-slip dock" and a "boat ramp" is a major draw for those looking to bring and use their boats on the Chesapeake Bay. The fact that boat slips were offered for free in one instance as a compensation for an additional tent site fee suggests a degree of flexibility in management. For those not bringing boats, the presence of an "inground pool" is typically a desirable amenity, although its current operational status is questionable based on one review stating it was closed. The campground offers both campsites for RVs and tents, as well as cabin rentals. One reviewer who stayed in a cabin described it as "clean and really nice" with a well-functioning air conditioner. Cabins also come equipped with a picnic table, a fire pit, and a charcoal grill, enhancing the outdoor living experience. The bathroom and shower facilities were reported as "clean and well maintained" with plenty of hot water. However, cell phone reception appears to be limited, with one reviewer (AT&T) reporting no service, while a friend with T-Mobile was able to receive and send calls. The campground is characterized as "no frills," implying that while essential amenities are present, visitors should not expect extensive services or a highly manicured environment.
The key features of Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground include its direct waterfront location with beautiful views and access to the Chesapeake Bay. The "covered slips" and boat ramp are significant assets for boating enthusiasts. The availability of both campsites and cabin rentals caters to different accommodation preferences. The cabins themselves are reported to be clean and well-equipped. The clean and maintained bathroom and shower facilities are a plus. The opportunity for crabbing directly from the campground's vicinity is another unique feature. The spaciousness of the campground might appeal to those seeking a bit more room and a sense of being surrounded by nature. However, potential visitors should also be aware of the "no frills" nature of the campground and the possibility of some amenities being out of service or in need of maintenance. The varying cell phone reception could also be a factor for some visitors.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who are primarily interested in waterfront access to the Chesapeake Bay and bringing their boats, Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground in Reedville, VA, offers a compelling option due to its covered slips and boat ramp. The opportunity for crabbing directly from the area is another unique draw. Those who prefer cabin rentals will find them to be clean and well-equipped. The spaciousness of the campground might appeal to those seeking a less crowded feel. However, potential visitors should be prepared for a "no frills" experience and be aware that certain amenities like the pool and mini-golf may not be operational or well-maintained. The issue of potentially needing to pay for an additional site for a tent pitched alongside an RV, while offset by free boat slips in one instance, is also something to consider when planning. Overall, this campground seems best suited for those who prioritize waterfront activities and a more basic camping experience over extensive amenities and meticulous upkeep.
Regarding promotional information, the limited and somewhat mixed reviews do not provide any specific details about current promotions or special offers at Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground. Any promotional efforts might focus on the beautiful waterfront location, the covered boat slips, and the opportunities for crabbing and enjoying the Chesapeake Bay, while perhaps managing expectations regarding the level of amenities and maintenance.
In conclusion, Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground in Reedville, VA, offers local users a unique "camping near me" experience centered around its beautiful waterfront location on the Chesapeake Bay. The presence of covered boat slips and a boat ramp makes it particularly attractive for boating enthusiasts, and the opportunity for crabbing adds to its appeal. Chesapeake Bay Camp Ground Reviews
This campground used to be something special, I'm sure, but it looks like it's abandoned now. I can see the issue, the place is very large and I'm sure its difficult to maintain with little to no staff. The pool was closed, mini golf was overgrown. But that didn't stop us from enjoying our weekend in our RV! We brought 2 boats down, and it was nice to dock them under covered slips. My dog had a blast as he was running wild bringing us sticks for the campfire. Beautiful spot on the water not far from the inlet to the Bay, but stick close to the channel markers on the way out as you'll run out of water quick. We had great success crabbing as well! Overall this is a no frills campground and if that's something you enjoy, you'll have a nice time here. The only issue I had was that we brought a tent to pitch outside of the camper, and we had to pay for an additional site just for that, which I found ridiculous since we had a large corner site that the tent would have easily fit on. However they did throw in the boat slips for free because of that, which was nice.
Aug 05, 2021 · Sarah LechnerThe campsite was what I expected of a camp ground, the cabin was clean and really nice. The air conditioner worked great, campers were spaced nicely. No evidence of mice or droppings, I was very surprised that there were no issues with mosquitoes. The bathroom and showers were clean and well maintained, lots of hot water. Each cabin had a picnic table along with a firepit and charcoal grill. There was no cell reception (AT&T), however my friend has T-Mobile she was able to receive and send calls. It was a nice change of pace from the suburbs, listening to the sounds of nature as we sat by the campfire. My experience for the 2 night stay was great!
Sep 08, 2020 · Vickie DavisOur camp site was really clean and we had no problems with bugs (ticks, spiders, ants, mosquitos etc.) People were spaced really well and not a lot of people here, it was fantastic. Day two, we switched to a cabin to see how it was and have a place for the dog while we went kayaking, we had no problem switching over and the cabin is actually really nice, for a simple campground can be expected. No mice droppings, ac works, very clean and not expensive. This place is very quiet and was perfect for the weekend escape we needed!
Sep 06, 2020 · saviche karnicovUnsanitary cabin with mice droppings everywhere. Pool was not clean. Playground equipment not very clean. Could not sleep in cabin. Spent night in our vehicle. We were the only people at this campground. Area was quiet. We were booked for two nights and left after the first night. We did get a refund for one night.
Aug 04, 2020 · Teresa KotullaThe camp ground is a peaceful quite place, and the guy running it is polite and courteous. The place is a little run down, but for the price was decent. We needed a place to sleep when we weren't fishing, and it filled the bill. There's a boat ramp for smaller boats (we had no trouble launching a 20ft pontoon) and good place to tie up the boat. Its a rustic place for people looking to spend time on the water, don't go here looking for the Ritz. It's 15 min from Wal-Mart and closer to local vendors. Only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is the stove in our lodge didn't work, but we were given a discount.
