You can reach them at (509) 996-4003 or their mobile number +1 509-996-4003. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a beautiful riverside environment and a well-maintained camping experience.
Environment: Riverside Beauty and Natural Scenery
Chewuch Campground is situated alongside the Chewuch River, a significant environmental feature praised by visitors. One reviewer who camped in spot 6 described it as a "GORGEOUS spot" right by the river. The presence of "lots of trees" contributes to a scenic and potentially shaded environment. The river itself is noted as being enjoyable for a dip during the summer months and offers fishing opportunities when the season is open. The overall setting is described as having "great views" and a "quiet setting," making it an appealing destination for those seeking tranquility in nature.
It's worth noting that the nearby forest shows signs of a previous fire, appearing "black." However, one reviewer who had fond childhood memories of the campground was happy to see it "well maintained and beautiful after the fires," indicating a recovery and continued appeal of the area. While the impact of the fire on the broader landscape is mentioned, the campground itself seems to have retained its beauty and functionality.
Wildlife sightings are also a potential aspect of the environment. One visitor reported seeing a moose, as well as "plenty of deer and chipmunks," suggesting opportunities for wildlife observation. However, another early spring visitor did not report any animal sightings, so the prevalence of wildlife encounters may vary depending on the time of year.
Services and Amenities: Clean and Well-Stocked Facilities
Based on the positive feedback, Chewuch Campground offers well-maintained basic amenities. One reviewer specifically mentioned that "the bathrooms were very clean and well stocked," which is a significant plus for camper comfort. Individual campsites appear to be equipped with essential features, as one reviewer noted their riverside spot (site 6) included a "picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet nearby." This suggests that at least some sites offer these fundamental camping necessities.
The presence of vault toilets is mentioned, indicating a more rustic restroom facility compared to flush toilets. However, the cleanliness reported by a summer visitor is reassuring. The campground also seems to accommodate tent camping well, as one family of seven camped in tents. While RV spots are not explicitly mentioned in these reviews, the focus on tent camping and basic amenities suggests a more traditional campground experience.
Further details about specific services like water availability, trash disposal, or the presence of RV hookups would require additional information. However, the existing reviews highlight the cleanliness of the provided facilities and the basic necessities at the campsites.
Features: Riverside Camping, Potential Wildlife, and Nearby Attractions
The key features of Chewuch Campground, as gleaned from the reviews, include:

- Potential for wildlife viewing: Sightings of moose, deer, and chipmunks have been reported.
- Clean and well-stocked bathrooms: A notable positive aspect mentioned by a visitor.
- Basic campsite amenities: Including picnic tables and fire pits at some sites.

- Hiking opportunities: The Lewis Butte hike is mentioned as a nearby family activity, indicating access to local trails.
- Firefighters Memorial: Located at a higher elevation accessible by a drive from the campground, offering another point of interest for visitors.
One reviewer who visited during the spring break (April 2025) noted that they were the only humans in the campground, which might indicate lower occupancy during the off-season, potentially offering a more secluded experience. However, they did express uncertainty about what the campground would be like when full in the summer.

Chewuch Campground Reviews
Family of 7 tent camped here in 4/2025 for spring break. It was cold but sunny most of the trip. We were the only humans there. Camped in spot 6 along the river. GORGEOUS spot. Lots of trees, picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet nearby. River will be fun in the summer months and fishing when open season. No animal sitings. Nearby forest is black from previous fire. We hiked Lewis Butte as a family and ate dinner in Winthrop. I would definitely come back again. Only four stars because not sure what it's like in the summer when campsite is full.
Apr 15, 2025 · Heather TreasOn 7/6/24 my husband and I decided to take a spur of the moment trip to a campground I frequented as a child with my family. And it did NOT disappoint. We stayed at camp 4 and it was beautiful! Just as I remembered it. The river was right at our campsite and we enjoyed a dip, we saw a moose and plenty of deer and chipmunks. The bathrooms were very clean and well stocked. We took a drive to the top and visited the firefighters memorial. I'm so happy to see this campground well maintained and beautiful after the fires. We will be frequenting more often from now on.
Jul 10, 2024 · V. FoxFriday, Sept 30, 2022 - I'm all alone in this campground. It's clean and has running water. It's in an open pine forest. It has vaulted toilets, but it's very clean probably since no one is here. It's also quiet and there are no bugs, unlike the state open field just south of here. $20 per night, or $10 for seniors. I'm at site 13 and was able to get Starlink to work on the picnic table. Very surprised by that with all the trees around. Verizon is dead here, but AT&T seems to work a little, at least at my site.
Oct 01, 2022 · JoeCool HikerMy family and I have been camping along the Chewuch river for up to 40 yrs. As the years went by and we all got older the family camping faded down due to bad health but I continue still to go there, even if I'm by myself. I camp there because it's quiet and very relaxing, away from crouded camp grounds full ofannoying loud obnoxious people and city rules, and best of all it's free. 🤗
