Codorniz Recreation Area Campground Introduce
For those actively searching for "Camping Near Me" in Central California, the Codorniz Recreation Area Campground offers a distinct option. Situated at 32175 Rd 29, Raymond, CA 93653, USA, with contact numbers (559) 689-3255 and +1 559-689-3255, this campground provides a destination for both short-term stays and longer recreational getaways. This introduction will delve into the environment, services, features, and promotional aspects of Codorniz Recreation Area Campground, drawing from available online information and customer feedback to offer a comprehensive overview.
The Codorniz Recreation Area Campground is strategically located near Lake Hensley, a prominent feature of the Central California landscape. This lakeside setting is the defining characteristic of its environment, offering campers scenic water views and opportunities for various water-based activities. The terrain surrounding the lake typically consists of rolling hills, dotted with oak trees and native Californian vegetation, providing a natural and relatively undisturbed backdrop for outdoor recreation. The area is generally known for its peaceful ambiance, away from the hustle and bustle of major urban centers, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking tranquility in nature.
The climate in this region of California is Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. This allows for a relatively long camping season, though visitors in the summer months should be prepared for warm temperatures. The presence of Lake Hensley contributes to a more moderate microclimate immediately around the campground, potentially offering some relief from the heat. The lake itself supports various fish species, attracting anglers, and provides opportunities for boating, kayaking, and other water sports. The surrounding land offers possibilities for hiking and wildlife observation, with common sightings of local birds and small mammals. The review mentioning a "great view" further underscores the aesthetic appeal of the campground's natural setting. Being "on our way to Yosemite" for one reviewer indicates its strategic location for those traveling through or exploring other major Californian attractions, while still offering a distinct experience of its own.
Codorniz Recreation Area Campground provides a range of services and features designed to accommodate both tent and RV campers, ensuring a comfortable stay in a natural setting. Key amenities and services typically include:
- Campsites: The campground offers individual campsites, which vary in size and setup, suitable for different types of camping. These sites generally include a picnic table and a fire ring/grill for cooking and campfires. While specific site details are best confirmed directly with the campground, it's common for such facilities to offer a mix of tent-only sites and RV-friendly sites with varying levels of hookups.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: A crucial aspect of any campground, the availability of clean restrooms and showers significantly enhances the camping experience. One glowing review specifically notes that "Bathroom and shower were spotless," which is a strong indicator of the campground's commitment to hygiene and guest comfort. This level of cleanliness is a significant positive feature, often highlighted by campers.
- Camp Hosts: The presence of "delightful" camp hosts, as mentioned in a review, is a valuable service. Camp hosts are typically on-site representatives who assist campers, provide information, enforce rules, and help maintain the campground. Their helpful and friendly demeanor can greatly contribute to a positive camping experience.
- Cell Service: In today's connected world, even a "little cell service," as noted by a reviewer, can be a valuable feature for many campers, allowing them to stay in touch or access emergency services, even in a more remote setting. This balances the desire for an unplugged experience with the practicalities of modern life.
- Water Access: Given its location by Lake Hensley, the campground likely provides direct or easy access to the lake for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and potentially swimming (depending on lake regulations and safety conditions).
- Recreational Opportunities: Beyond the direct services, the campground's features extend to the recreational activities enabled by its environment. These include, but are not limited to, fishing on Lake Hensley, boating (with boat launch facilities likely available), hiking trails in the surrounding hills, and wildlife viewing.
While detailed information on specific hookups for RVs (e.g., full hookups with water, sewer, and electric; electric-only) is not provided in the prompt, it is standard for campgrounds near bodies of water to offer some level of RV accommodation. Prospective visitors with RVs should inquire directly about the types of sites available and their amenities using the provided phone numbers.
When Codorniz Recreation Area Campground is promoted, especially under the "Camping Near Me" banner, several key aspects would likely be highlighted to attract visitors.
Foremost, the campground's "peaceful" and "beautiful" environment, coupled with "great views," would be a significant draw. The promise of a serene escape from daily life, where one can enjoy nature and quiet relaxation by a lake, aligns perfectly with what many campers seek. The positive feedback regarding "spotless" bathrooms and showers and "delightful" camp hosts are strong promotional points, indicating a well-maintained facility with friendly and helpful staff, which are often top priorities for campers. The availability of at least some cell service, while not universal, can be a welcome bonus for those who need to remain partially connected.
However, it is crucial to address the second review, which raises serious concerns about alleged discrimination and a negative experience related to race. This review states, "If your Mexican camping at Codorniz at site 56 you will get complaints about your music, racist white people were only making complaints about us & our music wasnt even loud, there was a whole party goin on behind us but they were never told to be quiet, this place was a racist campsite. I wouldnt recommend going if your mexican." This is a significant claim that potential visitors should be aware of.
An objective introduction requires acknowledging this feedback. While it represents a single, albeit strong, perspective, it points to a potential issue regarding fairness in rule enforcement and the overall welcoming atmosphere for all guests. Campgrounds, like any public space, are expected to provide an equitable and respectful environment for all visitors, regardless of their background. If such incidents were to occur, they would directly contradict the ideal of a peaceful and enjoyable camping experience for everyone.
Therefore, while promoting the natural beauty and positive amenities, prospective campers, especially those from diverse backgrounds, might want to consider this review. It emphasizes the importance of a respectful and inclusive environment in any public recreational facility. It is advisable for potential campers to consider their own comfort levels and perhaps seek more recent reviews or inquire about the campground's policies on diversity and inclusion if this is a significant concern for them.
In conclusion, Codorniz Recreation Area Campground, with its lakeside setting near Lake Hensley in Raymond, CA, offers a peaceful and scenic camping experience for those searching for "Camping Near Me." Its strengths lie in its natural beauty, well-maintained facilities, and helpful camp hosts. However, the presence of a review alleging discriminatory treatment is a notable piece of feedback that future visitors should be aware of, prompting consideration of the overall atmosphere and management's commitment to equitable treatment for all guests. It is always recommended for individuals to contact the campground directly at (559) 689-3255 or +1 559-689-3255 for the most current information and to address any specific concerns.

Apr 27, 2025 · Mero The G .Very peaceful and calm COE park. We definitely enjoyed our stay here. The staff that received us were extremely helpful and kind. Water pressure was low and the power went out once, but came back after an hour. Dump stations were closed, but we were able to the use the sewer in the site next to when needed. We had a nice gazebo and firepit as well as our own trashcan. During the night you could see all the stars in the sky and hear cow mooing and what sounded like a coyote family howling away. The road getting to our site was a bit narrow for a 42 foot fifth wheel, but manageable. Our site was leveled and accommodated both the fifth wheel and truck. We camped at Codorniz Recreation Area Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
Jan 28, 2025 · Joaquin AldanaWhile the campsite has received good ratings, I felt it didn’t quite live up to the expectations. If you’re planning to camp during warmer weather, I wouldn’t recommend this site, as there is limited shade and not enough large trees to provide relief from the heat. The park rangers, while doing their job, were quite persistent in checking in, which sometimes felt intrusive. Despite the warm weather, they didn’t allow us to sit in unoccupied shaded areas outside our campground, which felt a bit strict. Additionally, they repeatedly checked for litter but didn’t ensure that the trash cans were emptied regularly, which was a bit inconvenient. One morning, all the washrooms were locked due to a clog, and we weren’t informed beforehand, which was frustrating. The lake near the campsite was also not very clean and lacked a proper beach area.Overall, my camping experience at this site wasn’t the best, so I wanted to share my thoughts for anyone considering booking here. I’m a bit surprised by the high ratings it has received.
Sep 03, 2024 · Sushree SatpathyCamp area was clean and bathrooms were clean. 2/3 showers have hot water and work, the other one has no hot water because of electrical issue as per Camp Host. Camp Host (Blackhat (old jumpmaster) and wife Terry were very nice and welcoming. Our stay 08/03/24-08/07/24 was very quiet and had no issues with and security of our stuff. Site 18 has plenty of shade and was pretty level, easy to level with boards or level blocks. Only downside is that it is a bit off the beaten path (30 mins to nearest gas station). I would stay again. Thanks camp Hosts
