Environment and Location:
Coldwater Cove Campground is situated near Blue River, Oregon, suggesting a location within the scenic landscapes of the Cascade Mountains. One reviewer noted the beauty of a campsite near the river, particularly during sunrise, highlighting the natural charm of the area. The campground's proximity to a lake is a significant draw, offering opportunities for water-based activities and picturesque views.
The convenience of access to both the campground and the lake is a recurring positive point in the reviews. One camper mentioned the ease of rolling kayaks from their site to the kayak launch, indicating a well-designed layout that caters to water sports enthusiasts. The exit and entry to the lake were also described as very easy, making it accessible for various activities.
A notable aspect of the environment at Coldwater Cove Campground is its exceptional quietness. One reviewer expressed surprise at how peaceful the campground was, even during Memorial Weekend in 2024, and noted that not all campsites were filled. This suggests a more relaxed and less crowded camping experience compared to some other popular destinations, making it ideal for those seeking tranquility.
However, it is important to be aware of the limited cell phone service in the area. One reviewer explicitly mentioned having zero cell service within the campground and needing to drive approximately 5 miles up the road to handle work emails. This lack of connectivity might be a consideration for those who need to stay connected or rely on their phones for navigation or emergencies.
The lake associated with Coldwater Cove Campground is described as small but gorgeous. While its size might limit extensive boating activities, it likely offers a more intimate and scenic setting for kayaking, swimming (if permitted), and enjoying the waterfront. The reviewer also noted that the lake can get quite busy on nice, sunny days, indicating its popularity among visitors.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the customer reviews, Coldwater Cove Campground offers a kayak launch, which is a significant amenity for those interested in paddling. The availability of "plenty of available camp spots" suggests a decent capacity, though it's always wise to book in advance, especially for specific site preferences or during peak times.
One reviewer mentioned staying in space #32, which was described as large with plenty of room but located in the middle of the campground with surrounding sites. This indicates a variety of campsite layouts are available, and preferences for more secluded or corner spots closer to facilities like restrooms might be accommodated if available.
The search for the camp host proved unsuccessful for one reviewer throughout their Memorial Weekend stay. While they assumed the host's location, there were no clear markers, and they only encountered someone checking sites on their last day. This could be a point of improvement for the campground management to ensure the camp host is easily identifiable and accessible to campers needing assistance or information.
The cleanliness of the campground was specifically mentioned in one review ("Clean and easy to find"), suggesting that the management maintains a certain standard of upkeep, contributing to a positive camping experience.
While a fire restriction was in place during one reviewer's visit, they still reported having a great time, indicating that the overall appeal of the location and the available activities were not significantly diminished by this temporary limitation.
Features and Highlights:
The standout features of Coldwater Cove Campground include its clean and well-maintained environment, the beautiful lakeside setting, and the relative peace and quiet, even during a holiday weekend. The convenience of accessing both the campground and the lake makes it user-friendly for campers of all ages and activity levels. The availability of spacious campsites, as noted in one review, adds to the comfort of the stay.
The proximity to the river (for some campsites) and the lake offers diverse scenic views and potential for different types of outdoor enjoyment. The overall tranquility of the campground provides a relaxing escape from more crowded areas.

Coldwater Cove Campground Reviews
Clean and easy to find. Plenty of available camp spots. The one my group got was near the river and was very beautiful as the sun was rising. Access was convenient and even though there was a fire restriction we had a great time. 9/10
Jan 26, 2025 · Chadd FiccadentiWe camped here for Memorial Weekend 2024 and really enjoyed ourselves. They have a kayak launch here and our site was close enough to roll our kayaks down to the launch. Very easy exit and entry to lake. The campground itself was extremely quiet. We were shocked at how quiet it was especially for a holiday weekend and not all of the spots were filled. We stayed in space #32. It was a large site with plenty of room but it was kind of in the middle of the campground with other sites surrounding it. I think next time if we stayed here we’d pick a corner spot a little closer to the restrooms. My only complaint is we couldn’t manage to find the camp host all weekend. We assumed which spot they were in but there were no markers that we could see and we never saw anyone until the last day someone in a white truck with an OR rec sticker was coming by checking sites. Lake is small but gorgeous and gets really busy if it’s nice and sunny! Overall we would definitely stay here again. ** Also - zero cell phone service anywhere in the campground had to drive 5 miles up the road to handle work emails **
May 27, 2024 · Brittany McDanielNice campground, good sized sites, beautiful lake. Nice trails around the lake. They say running water, but this is not really true. The only water spigot I found in the whole campground was an awkward massive pump that is longer than my arm span so there's no way to hold a water bottle up while also pumping. The water pressure fluctuates so you can't really fill well by setting things on the ground either. It really requires 2 people to work it which is very inconvenient. Certainly can't wash your hands without a second person to work the pump. Also, I stayed from Thursday thru Sunday and no one ever refilled the toilet paper in any of the bathrooms so many were out by Sunday. Only the top of the hill bathrooms still had any toilet paper by Sunday.
Oct 28, 2024 · Tanya KlippertThis campground felt secluded compared to others we have stayed at. Fair distance between campsites. We were in campsite 23 near the vault restroom. No showers on the grounds so keep that in mind! It was very quiet at night, both relaxing and spooky. Preston and Olivia were welcoming hosts.
Jul 11, 2023 · Silvia ReyesFirst time camping there with the Fultz family who have been camping there every year for 60 years ! Great place to camp! Just down the street there's a beautiful waterfall. Even though the place was pretty packed with people it was still a great place to see ! ❤️❤️❤️ the bathrooms wers remodeled recently and so they were better as I was told but it was pretty stinky but that's the camping life to be honest! They cleaned the bathroom twice a day and always had lots of toilet paper.
