Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "Camping Near Me" experience that combines the option of cabin stays with spacious group campsites and breathtaking panoramic views, Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground, located at 44611 CA-38, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305, USA, offers a compelling choice. Situated a few miles up a dirt road from Heart Bar, this campground provides a unique setting atop the Coon Creek Jumpoff, granting spectacular vistas of the Coachella Valley. While it might not be the most budget-friendly option compared to the nearby free Yellow Post sites, its exceptional scenery, ample space, and access to various recreational activities make it a worthwhile consideration for families and groups looking for a memorable outdoor getaway in the San Bernardino National Forest.
The environment surrounding Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground is a significant highlight, offering diverse opportunities for outdoor enjoyment. One reviewer noted it as a "great place to trail ride for the day or to stay overnight in a cabin by the stream," indicating its suitability for equestrian activities. The presence of a stream adds to the natural charm and provides a potential water source (though its potability should be verified). The area also features "lots of little spots to pull off and have a nice little picnic with the family or friends," suggesting scenic pull-outs along the access road or within the campground itself. For those inclined towards cycling, there are "cool biking trails" in the vicinity, catering to different skill levels. Additionally, fishing appears to be a popular activity in the area, with people observed "fishing off the side of the road," although the types of fish caught were not specified. A key environmental feature is its location atop the Coon Creek Jumpoff, which provides a "spectacular view of the Coachella Valley," a vista described as "breathtaking" by one visitor. The Pacific Crest Trail also passes right by the campground, adding to the area's appeal for hikers and offering opportunities to interact with thru-hikers.
Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground offers a range of services and features to accommodate both cabin renters and group campers. The availability of overnight stays in a "cabin by the stream" provides a more sheltered and potentially comfortable alternative to tent camping, especially for those seeking a slightly more rustic lodging experience without the full commitment of traditional camping. For group campers, the sites are described as offering "a lot of space," suggesting ample room for multiple tents and camping equipment. The campground also provides a toilet facility, although one reviewer noted a significant presence of flies in the outhouse, which is a common challenge in outdoor settings. It is mentioned that charcoal fire BBQs are not allowed at this site, so campers should plan their cooking methods accordingly, likely relying on propane stoves or the provided fire rings for wood fires (subject to local fire regulations). The stream near the cabins is reported to have "lots of water from all the snow melt this year," indicating a potentially vibrant water feature, at least during the spring and early summer months.
A notable feature of Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground is its proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail. This offers a unique opportunity for campers to hike sections of the PCT and to interact with the long-distance hikers who frequent the trail. While this is generally considered a positive aspect, one reviewer pointed out that it can lead to "quite a few strangers passing through or parking at camp each day," which they considered a "minor annoyance." This highlights a balance between the appeal of being near a famous trail and the potential for less privacy compared to more secluded campgrounds. The easy access via a dirt trail that "cars could make it on" (not too rough) is also a significant feature, ensuring that the campground is accessible to a wide range of vehicles, though caution should always be exercised on unpaved roads.
While specific details about all amenities are not provided, the mention of cabins, group campsites with ample space, a toilet facility, and fire rings suggests that the campground offers the essentials for a comfortable outdoor stay. The presence of a stream enhances the natural appeal, and the proximity to trails caters to hikers and equestrians. The breathtaking view of the Coachella Valley is a unique feature that sets this campground apart and is a significant draw for visitors seeking scenic beauty. The recommendation to bring chairs suggests that while picnic tables might be available, additional seating could enhance comfort, especially for group gatherings.
The positive reviews serve as a strong indication of the appeal of Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground. The description of it as a "great place" for trail riding and the availability of cabins by the stream highlight its versatility. The emphasis on the "breathtaking view," "a lot of space," and the overall assessment as an "excellent choice for camping with a group" underscores its strengths. Even the minor annoyance of PCT hikers passing through is framed within an overall positive experience. The comparison to the free Yellow Post sites acknowledges the cost but implicitly justifies it based on the superior views and amenities offered, such as the toilet facility (despite its fly issue).
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground in the provided text. However, the unique combination of cabin rentals, spacious group campsites, spectacular views, and access to various recreational activities like trail riding, biking, and hiking along the PCT acts as a strong inherent promotion. For local users seeking a "Camping Near Me" destination that offers more than just a basic campsite, the allure of cabins by a stream and panoramic vistas is a significant draw. To inquire about cabin availability, group campsite reservations, fees, and any specific regulations (such as the fire restrictions on charcoal BBQs), contacting the provided phone numbers ((877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777) or visiting the relevant booking platform would be the next step.
In conclusion, Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground near Angelus Oaks offers a distinctive "Camping Near Me" experience with its option of cabin stays by a stream and spacious group campsites boasting breathtaking views of the Coachella Valley. Its location provides access to trail riding, biking trails, and the Pacific Crest Trail, catering to a variety of outdoor interests. Coon Creek Cabin Group Campground Reviews
Great place to trail ride for the day or to stay overnight in a cabin by the stream. There are lots of little spots to pull off and have a nice little picnic with the family or friends! Cars could make it on the dirt trail, not to ruff. Doesn't get too busy. there are cool biking trails as well. Also, I saw a good amount of people fishing off the side of the road, not sure what type of fish they were catching, though. Would recommend bringing chairs, and there are no charcoal fire bbq allowed at this site. The steam has lots of water from all the snow melt this year.
Jun 25, 2023 · Nick G.This spot a few miles up the dirt road from Heart Bar is a beautiful place to spend the weekend. It's not the cheapest campground (especially with so many free Yellow Post sites on the way there), but it is the best spot for a breathtaking view, a lot of space, and a toilet (although with the number of flies in the outhouse I would almost prefer squatting in nature). It's situated atop the Coon Creek Jumpoff with a spectacular view of the Coachella Valley, and the Pacific Crest Trail passes right by -- these are good things, but they do make for quite a few strangers passing through or parking at camp each day, which is a minor annoyance. Overall, it's an excellent choice for camping with a group out in the SB National Forest.
