Copper King Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience in the Thompson Falls, Montana area, Copper King Campground, located in Thompson Falls, MT 59873, USA, offers a seemingly pleasant and peaceful option. Based on the limited online reviews, this campground is noted for its cleanliness and enjoyable atmosphere, with at least one site offering direct river access. While the exact number of campsites and specific amenities are not detailed, the available feedback provides valuable insights for potential visitors.
Environment and Location:
Copper King Campground is situated in the Thompson Falls region of northwestern Montana, an area known for its scenic beauty, including the Thompson River and surrounding forests. One reviewer specifically mentions that the campground is located right by a "lovely river," indicating that at least some campsites offer direct access to and views of the river. Riverfront camping is often highly desirable, providing opportunities for fishing, swimming (if permitted and safe), and enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water.
The second review describes the campground as "very clean and peaceful," suggesting a tranquil environment conducive to relaxation and enjoying nature. This is a significant draw for many campers seeking an escape from the noise and bustle of everyday life.
An important piece of location-related information from one reviewer is a caution regarding directions: "Google maps takes you up Acms road which is incorrect- you need to be on Thompson river road." This is crucial for potential visitors to be aware of to avoid getting lost or ending up on an unsuitable road. It is highly recommended to use Thompson River Road to access Copper King Campground and possibly verify directions with a reliable map source or by contacting the campground directly if a phone number is available through other online listings.
The surrounding environment is likely characterized by the natural beauty of western Montana, with forests providing shade and a sense of seclusion. Depending on the exact location along the Thompson River, the landscape might include varying terrain, from flat riverbanks to more sloping or wooded areas.
Services and Amenities:
The limited reviews provide some information about the amenities at Copper King Campground. One reviewer mentions that "site 5" (which they consider the best) has a "pit vault toilet" nearby. This indicates that the campground offers at least this type of restroom facility. Pit vault toilets are common in more rustic or smaller campgrounds and do not have running water for flushing.
The absence of any mention of other amenities in the reviews suggests that Copper King Campground might be relatively basic. There is no mention of electrical hookups, water hookups, showers, or laundry facilities. Campers should likely plan for a more self-sufficient camping experience, similar to primitive or semi-primitive campgrounds.
The presence of individual campsites is implied by the reviewer mentioning "site 5." It is reasonable to assume that each campsite would have a designated area for tents or RVs (size limitations unknown), and possibly basic amenities like a fire ring and a picnic table, although these are not explicitly stated in the reviews.
The cleanliness of the campground, highlighted in one review, suggests that the management or caretakers maintain the facilities to a good standard, which is a significant positive aspect even if the amenities are basic.
Features and Campsite Details:
One of the key features of Copper King Campground appears to be its location along the Thompson River, with at least site 5 offering direct proximity to the river. River access can provide opportunities for fishing (subject to local regulations and licenses), enjoying the water, and the scenic beauty of the river itself.
The reviewer's opinion that "site 5" is the "best site" suggests that it might have particularly favorable features, such as a prime location relative to the river, more space, better views, or perhaps more shade. If possible, potential visitors might want to inquire about the layout of the campground and the characteristics of different sites, especially if they can make reservations.
The overall atmosphere of the campground is described as "peaceful," which is a significant feature for those seeking a quiet and relaxing camping experience away from more crowded or amenity-rich campgrounds.
The mention of a pit vault toilet near at least one site indicates a basic but essential amenity. Campers who prefer flush toilets or showers may need to consider other options for "camping near me."
The cleanliness of the campground contributes to a more enjoyable experience, suggesting that the natural beauty of the location is complemented by a well-maintained environment.

Copper King Campground Reviews
It’s a decent campground! The best site- and the one I got- is easily the last one: site 5. There’s a pit vault toilet and a lovely river right by it. Be aware: Google maps takes you up Acms road which is incorrect- you need to be on Thompson river road.
Jul 05, 2021 · SHVery clean and peaceful. Very enjoyable.
Jun 03, 2022 · Karla CaseThe road further up was closed so I was forced to camp here and fortunately I was able to get my 16' cargo trailer in here. Anything longer would be difficult because of a hairpin turn as you go around the loop. There are 5 sites, but 3 of those are small and barely off the road. It's a nice campground but you'll want the large river site at the end if it's available. No charge to stay here.
