Crozier Ranch Introduce
For those searching for "camping near me" with a taste for history and the unique beauty of the Arizona desert, Crozier Ranch, located on Historic Route 66 in Hackberry, AZ 86411, USA, offers a potentially peaceful and memorable camping experience. Situated along the iconic Mother Road, this campground provides a glimpse into the past while immersing visitors in the natural environment of the region. Based on recent customer reviews, campers can expect a blend of tranquility, wildlife sounds, and the stark beauty of the desert landscape, albeit with some considerations for the climate and terrain.
One camper who visited Crozier Ranch with their mother described it as "so nice and peaceful." This suggests a serene atmosphere, allowing for a relaxing getaway. A notable aspect of the environment is the presence of local wildlife, with the reviewer mentioning hearing "coyotes barking and howling at night," which they found to be a "cool" experience. This auditory element adds to the unique charm of camping in a natural setting. However, the tranquility is occasionally interrupted by passing trains, as the reviewer noted, "It's usually quiet except when the trains go by." This potential noise factor is something prospective campers should be aware of.
The desert climate of Arizona is evident in the temperature fluctuations experienced at Crozier Ranch. The reviewer advised to "Be prepared for hot weather in the day and very cold at night." This significant temperature swing is typical of desert environments, where the lack of humidity allows for rapid cooling after the sun sets. Campers should pack accordingly with layers of clothing and appropriate gear to handle both heat and cold, depending on the time of year.
A significant highlight of the Crozier Ranch experience, according to the first reviewer, is the "Great visual of the stars on a clear night." The remote location away from significant urban light pollution likely contributes to exceptional stargazing opportunities, allowing campers to fully appreciate the vastness and beauty of the night sky. This is a common draw for those seeking "camping near me" in more rural and less light-polluted areas.
Another camper echoed the sentiment of a "Gorgeous property to camp," further emphasizing the scenic appeal of Crozier Ranch. However, they also highlighted a specific challenge for those traveling by bicycle: "If on bikes beware of goat heads…they’re everywhere." Goat heads are small, sharp, and tenacious thorns from a type of plant common in arid regions. They can easily puncture bicycle tires, making them a significant nuisance for cyclists. This review serves as a crucial warning for anyone planning a camping trip to Crozier Ranch as part of a bicycle tour along Route 66 or in the surrounding area. Cyclists should ensure they have robust tires and potentially carry sealant or repair kits to mitigate this hazard.
The second reviewer also mentioned the experience of "Listening to the coyotes while in our tent was fascinating and a bit creepy…sounded like a bunch of mad women laughing 😂." This reinforces the presence of local wildlife and the immersive nature of the camping experience, where the sounds of the desert can be both intriguing and perhaps a little unnerving for some.
Based on the provided reviews, the environment of Crozier Ranch is characterized by its desert location along historic Route 66, offering a peaceful atmosphere punctuated by the sounds of coyotes and occasional trains. Campers should be prepared for significant temperature variations between day and night and, if cycling, be particularly cautious of goat heads. The clear desert nights provide excellent opportunities for stargazing.
Information regarding specific services and features at Crozier Ranch is limited in the provided reviews. Typically, campgrounds in more remote areas might offer basic amenities such as designated campsites, perhaps fire rings or picnic tables, and possibly vault toilets. Access to potable water may or may not be available, so campers should be prepared to bring their own if unsure. The reviews do not mention any facilities like showers, laundry, or electrical hookups, suggesting a more rustic camping experience. To obtain accurate information about the services and features available at Crozier Ranch, prospective campers would need to seek additional details from official sources or other online camping platforms.
Similarly, there is no promotional information or specific details about fees, reservations, or rules and regulations mentioned in the provided text. Those interested in camping at Crozier Ranch should look for official websites, contact information, or listings on camping reservation sites to gather this essential planning information.
The location on Historic Route 66 adds a unique element to camping at Crozier Ranch. Route 66 is a significant cultural and historical landmark, and camping along it can provide a sense of connection to the past. The surrounding area of Hackberry, Arizona, is known for its preserved Route 66 relics and quirky roadside attractions, which campers might find interesting to explore during their stay.
In conclusion, Crozier Ranch offers a desert camping experience with a peaceful ambiance and notable natural features, including the sounds of coyotes and exceptional stargazing. Located on historic Route 66 near Hackberry, AZ, it provides a unique setting for those seeking "camping near me" with a blend of nature and history. Went here with my mom the other day to camp. It was so nice and peaceful. Heard coyotes barking and howling at night. So cool!! It's usually quiet except when the trains go by. Be prepared for hot weather in the day and very cold at night. Great visual of the stars on a clear night.
May 15, 2022 · Dinah Rose RobertsGorgeous property to camp, albeit quite cold in November and on bicycles! If on bikes beware of goat heads…they’re everywhere. Listening to the coyotes while in our tent was fascinating and a bit creepy…sounded like a bunch of mad women laughing 😂
Feb 20, 2022 · Adrienne LehtinenAmazing loved the spot. Make sure you close the gate! The log book needs new pages in it. Other than that, we loved it. We camped by the road. Traffic didn't wake us but those singing coyotes did. Never saw the wild life other than our friendly tarantula. Going to visit again!

May 18, 2023 · Van WilderNice quiet place (as long as you stay away from the roadside areas). Beautiful vistas across the valley. There are no amenities. No playgrounds. No dump station.Make sure you pick up your trash and take it with you!
