Wild Cow Campground

Kingman, AZ 86401, USA

Great location, but recent rains have created deep ruts across and down the road, just need to straddle the ruts and go slow on deep ones. Not a problem if you take it slow. Site recommends 4x4 and no trailers/camper. Someone was up there with Ford escape and another person had a van, I towed my 16' scamp with no trouble, although the wheels do follow the 4runner, which made it a little easier to navigate the obstacles. I wouldn't go much bigger due to the tight turns, and once you start on certain stretches, you're committed. No cell service at camp, which is nice, but you can get a signal on the final hill down into camp, and if you walk out the back of the camp up the trail a way, it's hit and miss but available if needed. Has fire pits, picnic tables, and multuple toilet facilities. No water or electricity Well worth the time and effort, you want be dissipointed. - george norton

Wild Cow Campground Introduce

For local users seeking a more remote and off-the-beaten-path "camping near me" experience, Wild Cow Campground, located near Kingman, AZ 86401 (with contact numbers (928) 692-4400 and +1 928-692-4400), presents an intriguing option. Based on the available reviews, this campground offers a tranquil and potentially secluded setting, but it also comes with specific considerations regarding access and amenities that potential visitors should be aware of.

The environment of Wild Cow Campground is described as a "great location" and "very quiet." One reviewer noted a dry creek running alongside their campsite, suggesting a natural and potentially scenic setting. The remoteness of the campground is further emphasized by the lack of cell service at the camp itself, which can be a significant draw for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. The possibility of experiencing dark night skies, ideal for stargazing, is also implied by the lack of light pollution in a remote area. However, the access to this serene environment comes with a caveat regarding the road conditions.

Recent rains have reportedly created "deep ruts across and down the road" leading to the campground. While one reviewer who towed a 16' Scamp trailer managed the road by carefully straddling the ruts and going slow, they also noted that the site recommends 4x4 vehicles and advises against trailers or campers. This suggests that while some with careful driving and suitable vehicles might manage, the road conditions can be challenging and may not be suitable for all types of vehicles, especially larger trailers or those without four-wheel drive. The reviewer also mentioned tight turns and stretches where once committed, turning back might be difficult, advising against bringing anything much larger than their 16' trailer.

In terms of services and features, Wild Cow Campground offers basic amenities for a more primitive camping experience. Reviewers mentioned the presence of "fire pits," "picnic tables," and "multiple toilet facilities." The availability of multiple toilet facilities is a significant plus for a remote campground, providing a basic level of sanitation. However, it is explicitly stated that there is "no water or electricity" available at the campground. Therefore, local users considering Wild Cow Campground as "camping near me" must be entirely self-sufficient, bringing their own water supply and any necessary power sources (such as solar chargers or generators, keeping in mind noise considerations for other campers). The absence of hookups also means that RVs and trailers will be boondocking with no access to water, sewer, or electrical connections.

Despite the challenging access and lack of utilities, one reviewer concluded that the campground is "Well worth the time and effort" and that visitors "won't be disappointed." This positive sentiment suggests that the beauty and tranquility of the location outweigh the inconveniences for those prepared for a more rustic camping experience. The fact that only one other campsite out of a reported 18 was occupied on a Thursday night further indicates the potential for a secluded and peaceful stay.

The lack of cell service at the campsite itself can be seen as both a pro and a con, depending on individual preferences. For those wanting to disconnect from technology and enjoy uninterrupted nature, it is a definite advantage. However, for safety or communication needs, it's important to note that a signal might be obtainable on the "final hill down into camp" and "if you walk out the back of the camp up the trail a way." The availability is described as "hit and miss but available if needed," so while not reliable at the campsite, communication with the outside world is potentially possible with some effort.

Considering the "camping near me" category, Wild Cow Campground offers a unique option for local users who prioritize remoteness, quiet, and a connection with nature over developed amenities and easy access. It is particularly well-suited for those with 4x4 vehicles who are comfortable with self-sufficient camping. The presence of basic facilities like fire pits, picnic tables, and toilets provides a step up from true dispersed camping while still maintaining a primitive feel.

As no specific promotional information is mentioned in the reviews, it is advisable for local users to contact the provided phone numbers ((928) 692-4400 or +1 928-692-4400) to inquire about any fees, reservations (if required), and the current conditions of the access road. They may also be able to provide more detailed information about the campground layout, the number of sites, and any specific regulations or recommendations for visitors. Given the road conditions, it would be prudent to get the most up-to-date information before planning a trip, especially after any significant rainfall.

In conclusion, Wild Cow Campground offers a secluded and quiet camping experience near Kingman, Arizona, with basic amenities like fire pits, picnic tables, and toilets. However, potential visitors must be aware of the challenging road conditions, which may require a 4x4 vehicle and careful driving, and the complete lack of water and electricity at the campsites. The absence of reliable cell service at the camp itself also needs to be considered. For local users who are well-prepared for a more primitive and self-sufficient camping trip and who value a remote setting and potential dark skies, Wild Cow Campground could be a rewarding "camping near me" destination. Contacting the campground directly for the latest information on road conditions and any other relevant details is highly recommended before planning a visit.
