Bloomington East Introduce
For local users in the Lawrence, Kansas area seeking a convenient "camping near me" destination for weekend trips, Bloomington East Campground presents a viable option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers nicely spaced out and shaded tent and RV sites, along with essential amenities such as a dump station. A significant draw is its proximity to a nearby beach equipped with recreational facilities. However, potential visitors should also note the feedback regarding the condition of the restrooms and the limited staffing at the gate.
The environment of Bloomington East Campground appears to be appreciated for its spaciousness and shade. Both tent and RV sites are described as "nicely spaced out and shaded," suggesting a comfortable setting, particularly during warmer Kansas weather. The campground's location near a beach indicates access to a lake or swimming area, enhancing its appeal for recreational activities. The beach itself is noted to have "3 volleyball nets, a playground, life jackets available, and a cold shower for sand removal," highlighting family-friendly amenities and opportunities for active enjoyment. While the immediate surroundings of the campsites are not extensively detailed, the presence of shade implies mature trees, contributing to a pleasant outdoor atmosphere. One reviewer mentioned that the campsites are "mostly all gravel" and were level from side to side for their trailer, which is important information for RV owners.
In terms of services and features, Bloomington East Campground offers a mix of essential and recreational amenities. Based on the customer reviews, the following services and features are noteworthy:
- Spacious and shaded campsites: Both tent and RV sites are reported to be well-spaced and benefit from shade, providing a comfortable camping experience.
- Water and electric hookups: The RV sites appear to be equipped with water and electric hookups. One reviewer noted that they "appear to be all water and electric." However, it was also mentioned that water/sewer sites were not available or were reserved for staff at the nearby Hickory campground.
- Dump station: The availability of a dump station is a significant convenience for RV campers.
- Nearby beach with amenities: A major feature is the access to a nearby beach, which includes three volleyball nets, a playground for children, available life jackets for safety, and a cold shower for rinsing off sand.
- Laundry facility: The campground has a laundry facility with three brand new machines: two washing machines and one dryer (though one of the dryers was reported as not working). The cost is $1.50 per use.
However, the reviews also highlight some potential drawbacks regarding services:
- Undesirable restrooms: One reviewer explicitly stated that "the restrooms are not desirable," indicating that the condition or cleanliness of the restrooms may be a concern for some visitors. Further details about the specific issues with the restrooms are not provided.
- Limited gate staffing: One reviewer noted that "no one was at the gate when we arrived," and "nobody was at the gate the next morning," with staff only being seen at the gate "one time" during their three-night stay. This suggests that check-in procedures might be self-service at times or that gate staff presence is limited.
- Lack of water/sewer sites (or limited availability): While water and electric hookups seem to be available at RV sites, the availability of full hookups (water and sewer) appears to be limited or non-existent at Bloomington East itself, with a possible alternative at the nearby Hickory campground.
The features of Bloomington East Campground, as experienced by recent visitors, cater to both tent and RV campers and those looking for recreational activities:
- Ideal for weekend camping trips: The overall positive feedback suggests it's a suitable destination for short getaways.
- Comfortable for both tent and RV camping: The campground accommodates both types of campers with spacious and shaded sites.
- Convenient hookups for RVs: The availability of water and electric hookups at RV sites adds to the convenience for RV travelers.
- Family-friendly beach with recreational activities: The nearby beach with volleyball nets and a playground makes it appealing for families with children.
- Laundry facilities for longer stays: The presence of a laundry facility, albeit with a limited number of machines, can be beneficial for those planning extended stays.
Based on the customer reviews and the features mentioned, the "promotional information" for Bloomington East Campground, aimed at local users searching for "camping near me," could emphasize the following aspects, while also acknowledging the noted drawbacks:
- Your ideal weekend camping destination near Lawrence: Highlight its suitability for short getaways with well-spaced and shaded campsites for both tents and RVs.
- Enjoy a nearby beach with volleyball, playground, and swimming access: Promote the recreational opportunities available at the adjacent beach.
- Convenient RV amenities including water, electric hookups, and a dump station: Emphasize the services available for RV campers. Note the limited availability of water/sewer sites.
- Benefit from on-site laundry facilities for longer stays: Mention the availability of washing and drying machines.
- Please be aware that restroom facilities have been described as less desirable: Provide an objective note about the feedback received regarding the restrooms.
- Note that gate staffing may be limited, potentially affecting check-in procedures: Inform potential visitors about the possibility of limited staff presence at the gate.
For local users considering a stay at Bloomington East Campground, it is advisable to:
- Be prepared for potential self-service check-in upon arrival due to limited gate staffing.
- Inspect the restrooms upon arrival to assess if they meet their personal standards, based on the recent negative feedback.
- If traveling in an RV and requiring full hookups (water and sewer), inquire specifically about availability at Bloomington East or the nearby Hickory campground when making reservations.
- Bring appropriate gear for enjoying the beach, such as swimwear, towels, and sunscreen.
- Take advantage of the shade at the campsites, especially during hot weather.
- Note the availability of a dump station if traveling with an RV.
- If planning a longer stay, be aware of the laundry facility and its cost.

Bloomington East Reviews
This place is great for weekend camping trips. Tent sites or RV spots are nicely spaced out and shaded, they didn't have any water/ sewer sites available or they had some for staff members at the Hickory campground. Dump station available also. The nearby beach was great, with 3 volleyball nets, a playground, life jackets available, and a cold shower for sand removal.
May 14, 2024 · Alina S.A.Stayed: 9/19/2024 to 9/22/2024“Bloomington East”Campsites are mostly all gravel. Fit the trailer fine level from side to side. Appear to be all water and electric. No one was at the gate when we arrived. Nobody was at the gate the next morning. We only saw someone at the gate one time. The restrooms are not desirable. They do have a laundry facility $1.50 there are three brand new machines in there, two washing one drying the other dryer did not work
Feb 21, 2025 · Shelley AlloreNice spread out campsites. They seem level and every site has a fire ring and picnic table and a gravel driveway. Byot (bring your own toilet paper) and soap because the camp staff have not cleaned the restrooms or refilled the tp or soap all weekend. It is packed here too. The beach is crowded and loud music. It is more like a club than a peaceful swimming area.
Jun 23, 2024 · Rachael IWe stayed at Cedar Ridge campground. Sites are mostly level from side to side. Facilities were clean with hot water. It's April but campground was full with plenty of kids playing. Plenty of trees but there are some with limited shade. Most of seemed to be angled nw/se. Be sure to GOLO in case you want to place your door to the east.
Apr 12, 2025 · Romd inKsIt is a very clean and beautiful campground. I stayed at the Cedar Ridge campground, site number 32.Very well maintained. The lake is lovely to look at ...didn't boat or swim while here....just camped. Would likely have given it five stars if it wasn't for the cranky camp host. I was following directions to check in (I arrived on a Tuesday after 6pm like it says to do) and the host was pretty crabby and let me know that he is off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.....nowhere in the directions does it state that and to not bother him those two days. I just asked if I needed to check in...and if the lights in the shower house will come on. Not too taxing to answer....it's not like he had to stop doing what he was doing....When I worked, I would get calls all the time after hours and even on vacations....always answered whatever questions needed answered....just common courtesy.
