Deadman Campground Introduce
For those seeking an exceptional outdoor experience under the "Camping Near Me" category in California, Deadman Campground presents itself as a highly recommended and versatile destination. Located along the banks of the Stanislaus River, approximately one mile from Highway 108 on the Kennedy Meadow Road, about 29 miles east of the Summit Ranger Station, this campground is nestled within the beautiful Kennedy Meadows area, part of the Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada mountains. This introduction will provide an objective overview of Deadman Campground, detailing its environment, available services, features, and relevant insights gleaned from publicly available information and glowing customer reviews, aiming to offer a comprehensive picture for prospective visitors.
The environment of Deadman Campground is a significant draw, consistently praised by visitors for its "beautiful area." Situated at an elevation of 6,285 feet, the campground is surrounded by a forested area with a mix of pine and fir trees, providing ample shade and a true sense of being immersed in nature. A key environmental feature is the Stanislaus River running "at the backside if almost all campsites," contributing significantly to the "peaceful and serene" atmosphere. Reviewers note that the river's flow can be slow, making it "nice to get in the water," which is ideal for families with children. The proximity to Kennedy Meadows, a high-elevation area, means clean, crisp mountain air and stunning natural vistas. This location provides access to the grandeur of the Sierra Nevada, offering a refreshing escape from urban life. The varied terrain and clear night skies further enhance the natural beauty of the environment, making it perfect for stargazing and appreciating the wilderness.
When it comes to services, Deadman Campground goes beyond basic offerings, largely due to its affiliation with the nearby Kennedy Meadows Resort and Pack Station, which operates the campground. This relationship significantly enhances the services available to campers. While the campground itself provides fundamental amenities like designated campsites (17 in total, including two walk-in sites) with picnic tables and fire rings, it also boasts exceptionally clean facilities. Reviewers rave about the cleanliness, stating, "Outhouses so clean you can't believe they're outhouse!!!" This level of maintenance is a testament to the dedication of the staff. Potable water is readily available, "piped to hydrants serving multiple sites," ensuring convenient access to drinking water. The main road within the campground is paved, and parking pads are dirt-surfaced. Beyond the immediate campground, the proximity to Kennedy Meadows Resort means campers have access to a well-supplied general store for groceries and camping essentials, a restaurant for prepared meals, and a bar for evening relaxation. These additional services elevate the camping experience, offering convenience without sacrificing the rustic feel of the outdoors. The phone numbers (209) 965-3911 and (209) 965-3900 for Kennedy Meadows Resort provide direct contact for more information. While RV filling is prohibited at the campground hydrants and no RV dump station is available on-site, the availability of diverse accommodations (tents, RVs, and cabins for rent at the resort) caters to a broad spectrum of "Camping Near Me" preferences.
The features of Deadman Campground and its surrounding Kennedy Meadows area are designed for a "great fun filled outdoor adventure." A primary feature is the direct access to the Stanislaus River for activities such as fishing and swimming. The river's slow flow late in the season makes it particularly family-friendly for water play. For those seeking more adventurous activities, a significant feature of the Kennedy Meadows area is the availability of horses for rent, offering a unique way to explore the scenic trails. This caters to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. The campground itself is noted for being "peaceful and serene," especially with the river running alongside most campsites, creating a tranquil backdrop. The camp hosts, specifically "John and his wife," are highlighted as "super clean" and "very friendly," embodying a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring the campground's pristine condition. This human element is a crucial feature, as positive interactions with staff greatly enhance the camping experience. The nearby lakes offer additional recreational opportunities, promising to "keep you busy" with various water-based activities or scenic exploration. The combination of rustic camping with convenient access to resort amenities strikes a balance that appeals to both traditional campers and those seeking a few more comforts.
Regarding promotional information, Deadman Campground, being operated in conjunction with Kennedy Meadows Resort, benefits from the resort's broader outreach. While specific, standalone promotions for Deadman Campground might not be widely advertised, its inclusion within the Kennedy Meadows offerings means it's part of a larger recreational hub. Information about fees is clearly stated: "$25.00 for a single-family site" and "$50.00 for a double site," with an extra fee for additional vehicle parking. This transparent pricing is a form of direct promotion. The campground operates on a "First come, first served" basis, meaning no reservations can be made through Recreation.gov, which is important information for planning. The glowing customer reviews serve as the most compelling promotional material, describing it as a "beautiful area," "highly recommend a visit," and highlighting the "perfect" and "super clean" conditions maintained by "very friendly" hosts. The promise of "everything for a great fun filled outdoor adventure" encapsulates the value proposition. For those searching "Camping Near Me" with an emphasis on a pristine environment, excellent facilities (especially for a rustic campground), and a range of nearby activities including horseback riding and river access, Deadman Campground at Kennedy Meadows stands out as a top-tier choice. Prospective visitors are advised to check the Kennedy Meadows Resort website or contact them directly via phone (209) 965-3911 for current operating dates, any specific conditions, and detailed information on the various amenities available at the resort itself.
In conclusion, Deadman Campground in the Kennedy Meadows area of California offers a truly remarkable "Camping Near Me" experience. Its beautiful Sierra Nevada environment with the Stanislaus River running through it, coupled with exceptionally clean facilities and the convenience of nearby resort amenities, makes it an ideal destination. The presence of friendly and dedicated camp hosts further enhances the appeal, creating a peaceful, serene, and fun-filled outdoor adventure for families and individuals alike, offering everything from fishing and swimming to horseback riding and more.

Jul 20, 2019 · Dawna SmileyBeautiful campground. Kenny (the camp host) was very nice and informative. Walking distance to Kennedy Meadows Resort. Located by the river.
May 18, 2021 · Mary STent camped four days in the walk-in site by the river. Camp host was professional and friendly. Day hiked and enjoyed a 1/2 day guided horse ride. Good place for experienced campers and riders.
Sep 29, 2023 · Chris RoseThis is a really nice campground! They have about 18 spots and there’s no reservations, so you have to get there with the right timing and we were fortunate to get campsite right on the river, #2. Beautiful and relaxing, and if you don’t feel like cooking when you’re camping, you can go to the lodge at the Kennedy Meadows and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Definitely recommend for fishing and a beautiful place to camp right on the Stanislaus River.
