Deam Lake Horse Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a unique camping experience that caters specifically to those traveling with horses, Deam Lake Horse Campground, located in Borden, IN 47106, USA, presents an interesting option within the "camping near me" category. This campground appears to be thoughtfully designed for equestrians, offering specialized facilities and access to riding trails, all while being situated in a location that boasts scenic beauty, including views of Deam Lake.
One of the standout features of Deam Lake Horse Campground, as noted by a recent visitor, is the "really nice" setup that includes both barns and camping areas. This suggests that the campground provides dedicated facilities for housing horses, which is a significant advantage for those who wish to bring their equine companions on their camping trips. The integration of barns with the camping area likely offers convenience and security for horse owners.
The availability of trails is another key aspect for a horse campground, and the review indicates that the trails at Deam Lake are "well marked." This is crucial for ensuring a safe and enjoyable riding experience for equestrians. However, the reviewer also mentioned that "one trail was closed for reforestation" and that "the one trail has some steep climbs." This information is important for potential visitors to be aware of, as it might affect their trail riding plans and the suitability of the trails for different horses and riders. The closure for reforestation suggests an ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship within the area.
The presence of Deam Lake itself is a significant environmental feature of the campground. The reviewer noted that "the view of the lake was really nice," indicating that campers can enjoy the scenic beauty of the water. This could offer opportunities for relaxation by the lake, although the review does not specify if activities like fishing or boating are directly accessible from the horse campground area.
In terms of basic amenities, the review mentions that the "restrooms" were "clean," which is a positive indicator of the campground's maintenance standards. However, it also notes "very little hot water," which is a practical consideration for campers, especially during cooler weather. The reviewer also observed that the "park has improved since our last visit," suggesting ongoing efforts to enhance the facilities and overall experience at Deam Lake Horse Campground.
A crucial piece of information for planning a late-season trip is that "water shuts off to the horse camp beginning of November, so you have to get water at the office." This highlights a seasonal limitation that potential visitors need to be aware of if they are considering camping during the late fall. It implies that while the campground might remain open, water access at the campsites becomes restricted, requiring campers to obtain water from a central office location.
One aspect that received a less favorable mention was the "hitching posts." The reviewer stated, "Not a big fan of the hitching posts," without elaborating on the specific reasons. This could be due to the design, placement, or condition of the posts, and it might be something that horse owners with specific preferences or needs should consider further, perhaps by seeking more detailed information or pictures of the hitching facilities.
Considering the category "camping near me," Deam Lake Horse Campground offers a specialized experience for local equestrians. The combination of barns for horses, well-marked trails (with noted closures and steep sections), and scenic lake views creates a unique setting for camping with horses. The clean restrooms and the indication of ongoing improvements are positive aspects. However, the limited hot water and the seasonal water shut-off at the campsites are practical considerations that potential visitors should keep in mind.
To obtain more comprehensive information about Deam Lake Horse Campground, local users are encouraged to seek additional details from relevant sources. This could include:
- Official websites for Indiana State Parks or recreational areas, as Deam Lake is likely part of a larger park system. These websites often provide detailed information about campgrounds, amenities, trail maps, and regulations.
- Equestrian camping forums or groups online, where horse owners share their experiences and insights about campgrounds that cater to horses.
- Contacting the office mentioned in the review to inquire about the hitching posts, trail conditions, water availability, and any other specific concerns. Unfortunately, a phone number was not provided in the given information, so alternative methods of contact would need to be found through online searches.
- Searching for Deam Lake State Recreation Area, as the horse campground is likely located within this broader area, and the recreation area's website might offer more details and contact information.
Given the specialized nature of this campground for equestrians, promotional information might be less common, but it is still worth investigating if there are any special rates or packages available, particularly for longer stays or groups. Information about fees for camping and horse stabling would also be essential for planning a trip.
In conclusion, for local horse owners looking for "camping near me," Deam Lake Horse Campground in Borden, Indiana, offers a dedicated setup for camping with horses, including barns and access to well-marked trails with scenic lake views. While there are some considerations regarding trail conditions, hot water availability, and seasonal water shut-off, the overall positive feedback regarding the setup and cleanliness suggests a worthwhile destination for equestrian campers. Further research is recommended to gather more specific details and contact information to plan a successful camping trip with your horses to Deam Lake Horse Campground.

Deam Lake Horse Campground Reviews
We really liked Deam Lake. The set up with barns and camping are really nice. Not a big fan of the hitching posts. One trail was closed for reforestation. Trails are well marked but the one trail has some steep climbs. Water shuts off to the horse camp beginning of November, so you have to get water at the office. The view of the lake was really nice.

Aug 14, 2023 · Keith BlantonLove this place. Our group of women have camped at the horse camp several times. Great trails. Nice facility. It's not bad in the off season - just know that they turn all the H2O off mid November.
Nov 22, 2021 · Hope BaultLove coming here with our horses. Great trails, great sites, tons of water spouts, however- If we are spending A LOT of money for a horse site with our trailer we do not need DNR/Security to circle the sites every 20 minutes past “quiet hours”.Just note: Quiet hours ARE STRICTLY ENFORCED. It is so obnoxious to be by the fire after a long day riding playing some music quietly and respectfully while eating food to be yelled at by a DNR employee from their van. Most times their yelling is louder than the music.Overall, 2/5. Do not recommend this place if you intend to stay awake past 11pm, any noise will get you reported and yelled at by DNR. 🙄
