Deam Lake Family Campground Introduce
Are you searching for a 'camping near me' option in the Borden, Indiana area that caters to families? Deam Lake Family Campground, located at Deam Lake Family Campground, Borden, IN 47106, is one such possibility. While specific contact information like a phone number is not provided in the available data, its name suggests a focus on providing a family-friendly camping environment near Deam Lake. When considering 'camping near me', it's essential to weigh the positive aspects against any potential drawbacks highlighted by other campers to ensure a satisfying experience for your family.
One initial positive sentiment comes from a reviewer who stated, "I really like this campground!!" This suggests that Deam Lake Family Campground has aspects that are appealing to campers. The name itself implies a location near Deam Lake, which could offer opportunities for lake-related activities such as swimming, fishing, or boating, depending on the lake's regulations and accessibility from the campground. For families looking for 'camping near me' with water-based recreation, proximity to a lake is often a significant advantage.
However, the same positive review also points out some significant issues. One concern is the state of the "bathroom next to the playground," which reportedly "still hasn't been fixed." The reviewer expresses concern that this could prevent campers from taking shelter in the event of a bad storm. The functionality and safety of bathroom facilities are crucial aspects of any campground, especially for families with children. If a primary bathroom near a key amenity like the playground is out of service or unsafe, this could impact the overall convenience and comfort of a stay at this 'camping near me' location.
Another environmental concern raised by the same reviewer is the presence of "an old trailer with a tarp covering the roof that looks like it has been parked there for years." This is described as looking "really trashy" and something that "should be cleaned up." The aesthetic appeal and overall maintenance of a campground can significantly affect the camping experience. The presence of dilapidated or unsightly items can detract from the natural beauty and the sense of being in a well-cared-for environment when searching for 'camping near me'.
A separate review details a less than restful experience due to noise. The reviewer mentions that "they were mowing super short grass all morning, or possibly just blowing leaves around on multiple ride on mowers, i counted 3. Weird. Not restful or relaxing at all." Excessive noise, especially during morning hours when campers might be hoping to sleep in or enjoy a peaceful start to their day, can be a significant drawback when choosing a 'camping near me' option. The use of multiple mowers simultaneously for an extended period suggests a potential issue with campground maintenance schedules or practices that could disrupt the tranquility of the camping environment.
This second review also provides feedback on the shower facilities, describing them as "a bit cramped but warm enough unless you like hot water," with the reviewer's boyfriend finding the water "cold." The quality and comfort of shower facilities are important for many campers, particularly during longer stays. Cramped conditions and inconsistent water temperature can detract from the overall camping experience when seeking 'camping near me' with essential amenities.
Furthermore, the second reviewer shares their experience at campsite "D36," which they found to be "completely exposed, no tree cover at all." This lack of shade resulted in the feeling of "camping in a parking lot," leading to concerns about excessive heat when the sun is shining. The availability of shade and the nature of the campsites (e.g., levelness, privacy, tree cover) are important factors for camper comfort, especially during warmer months. An exposed campsite can significantly impact the enjoyment of 'camping near me', making it uncomfortably hot and lacking in natural ambiance.
Another significant concern raised in the second review is the proximity to a "shooting range nearby." The reviewer reports hearing "guns until late," which was particularly distressing for their dog. Noise from external sources, such as a nearby shooting range, can severely impact the peace and quiet of a campground, detracting from the natural and relaxing experience many seek when 'camping near me'. If you are sensitive to noise or traveling with pets that might be disturbed by gunfire, this is a crucial factor to consider.
Despite these negative experiences, the second reviewer did offer one positive note, mentioning that the "man at front entrance booth was pleasant." While a friendly welcome is appreciated, it appears that this single positive interaction was not enough to outweigh the numerous negative aspects of their stay, as they concluded, "won't be back." This strong statement underscores the significance of the issues they encountered.
In summary, while Deam Lake Family Campground's name suggests a family-friendly environment near Deam Lake, recent reviews highlight several significant concerns that potential visitors should be aware of when considering this option for 'camping near me'. These include unresolved issues with bathroom facilities, the presence of unsightly abandoned items, disruptive noise from maintenance activities, potentially uncomfortable shower conditions, exposed campsites lacking shade, and noise from a nearby shooting range. While one reviewer initially liked the campground, the specific issues they raised are substantial. The second reviewer's overall negative experience and explicit statement of not returning serve as a strong caution.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the Borden, Indiana area, it is highly recommended to seek additional, more current reviews or to contact the relevant authorities (such as the park or recreation department managing the campground, if applicable) to inquire about the status of the bathroom repairs, the removal of the old trailer, typical noise levels, campsite conditions, and the proximity and operating hours of any nearby shooting range. Understanding the current state of these issues will be crucial in making an informed decision about whether Deam Lake Family Campground meets your family's needs and expectations for a 'camping near me' experience. Given the concerns raised, it would be prudent to gather more information before planning a stay.

I really like this campground!!However they still haven't fixed the bathroom next to the playground yet.🙄 If there was a bad storm you would not be able to take shelter in there. The only other thing is that there is an old trailer with a tarp covering the roof that looks like it has been parked there for years. It looks really trashy and should be cleaned up.
Apr 13, 2025 · Dennis KarlThey were mowing super short grass all morning, or possibly just blowing leaves around on multiple ride on mowers, i counted 3. Weird. Not restful or relaxing at all. Showers were a bit cramped but warm enough unless you like hot water, my bf said it was cold to him. We were in D36 which is completely exposed, no tree cover at all. I felt like I was camping in a parking lot, so it would be too hot when the sun is shining. I believe there is a shooting range nearby. Heard guns Until late, dog was not pleased. Two stars only because man at front entrance booth was pleasant, won't be back
Sep 23, 2024 · M MWonderful place to camp with family. All sites have electric and a paved parking spot for campers. Sites also have spots for tents. Movable fire rings and picnic tables at each site as well. Small playground by the campground entrance for the kids. Hot showers in the full bathroom. Multiple trails begin around the camp ground. Always see critters on our hikes here.

Jul 08, 2019 · Bobbie Jo WhitenerReally enjoyed camping here, but was very disappointed this morning to see so much litter left behind by groups! I don’t understand who people think is going to pick up after them? Beautiful parks like this deserve to be respected and appreciated, clean up after yourselves so everyone can enjoy this public space!
