Are you searching for "camping near me" in the stunning landscapes of Idaho? Devils Elbow Campground, located near Wallace, ID 83873, offers a picturesque and tranquil escape that has garnered high praise from recent visitors. This introduction aims to provide local users with a detailed overview of the campground, highlighting its environment, services, features, and important considerations based on real customer experiences.
Immerse Yourself in a Beautiful and Serene Environment
Devils Elbow Campground is consistently described as "beautiful" and "serene," suggesting an idyllic natural setting perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The campground boasts a stream running through it, described as "gorgeous and serene," which likely contributes to the overall tranquil atmosphere and provides a soothing natural soundtrack for campers. The presence of a short trail leading down to the water offers easy access for enjoying the stream up close.
The campground's location near Wallace, Idaho, places it within the scenic Coeur d'Alene River region. One reviewer noted a "beautiful drive from 1-90, following cda river," indicating that the journey to the campground itself is part of the enjoyable experience. Being approximately a 30-40 minute drive from the freeway suggests a sense of seclusion while still being reasonably accessible. The surrounding area is likely characterized by the lush forests and flowing waters that define this part of Idaho, offering opportunities for scenic exploration beyond the campground itself.
The reviews also provide insights into the weather conditions during the camping season. One visitor noted that late July and early August can be "hot in the mid morning to afternoon" and "muggy in the afternoon to evening" with "not much breeze." However, the nearby river is highlighted as a welcome escape from the heat, suggesting that the campground's proximity to water is a significant advantage during warmer periods.
Services and Amenities: Cleanliness and Essential Provisions
Devils Elbow Campground appears to prioritize cleanliness and provides essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience:
- Clean and Maintained Sites: Multiple reviewers specifically mentioned that their campsites were "clean and maintained," indicating a commitment to providing a pleasant environment for each visitor.
- Large Fire Rings: The fire rings are described as "clean and large," offering ample space for campfires, cooking, and gathering in the evenings.
- Gigantic Picnic Tables: The presence of "gigantic" picnic tables at each site provides plenty of space for meals, games, and organizing camping gear.
- Clean Outhouses: Surprisingly, the outhouses are reported to be "extremely clean" and even "smelled nice," a significant positive for those who prefer or are limited to using these facilities.
- Well-Water Fountain: The campground offers a water fountain with well-water that reportedly "tasted awesome," providing a source of drinking water for campers.
- Firewood for Purchase: Firewood is available for purchase from the hosts at their sister site for $8 per "huge bundle of nice dry wood," offering a convenient option for campfires.
- Friendly Camp Host: One reviewer specifically mentioned the "very nice" camp host, suggesting a welcoming and helpful presence within the campground.
It's important to note the significant limitation regarding cell service. Multiple reviewers reported having no or very limited cell service. One mentioned that neither T-Mobile nor Xfinity (which uses all towers) worked at the campground, requiring at least a 40-minute drive to obtain a signal. This lack of connectivity is a crucial factor to consider, especially for those who need to stay in contact with family or require internet access. While some may see this as an opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse in nature, it's essential to be aware of this limitation for safety and communication purposes.

Devils Elbow Campground Reviews
Devil's Elbow campground was beautiful. We absolutely loved it. Our site was clean and maintained. The fire ring was clean and large, the picnic table was gigantic and there was a short trail down the water. The stream running through was gorgeous and serene. The whole campground was well kept and all of our neighbors were friendly. The outhouses were surprisingly enough- extremely clean and actually smelled nice. There is a water fountain to pump well-water, and it tasted awesome.Neither my husband nor I had cell service which was a bummer in case there was any emergency at home, so we had to drive at least 40mins to get service. My husband has TMobile and I have XFinity which runs off all towers. We didnt like the idea of leaving camp unattended to get cell svc, but noone messed with our site while away. The hosts stay at their sister site which is where we purchased firewood from, they were so nice and helpful. Bundles of firewood were $8 each but they were huge bundles of nice dry wood.Unfortunately, we had to leave early because there was a terrible storm that came through and apparently we weren't prepared enough. But we are looking forward to returning. Absolutely beautiful place.
Aug 09, 2024 · Chenoa VillegasJuly 30 to August 2...hot in the mid morning to afternoon. Muggy in the afternoon to evening. Not much breeze. But river was the escape to enjoying the hot weather. River is very low, all run off done, kind of easy to float, or just sit in chairs, there was a swimming hole, to cool off about 6-7 ft deep. Campground was very clean, camp host very nice, small campground. Beautiful drive from 1-90, following cda river. About 30-40 minute drive from freeway. Would def stay again , but maybe earlier in tear, not as hot out.
Aug 03, 2020 · Leigh GravesQuiet, peaceful with easy river access for our 3 year old. Highly recommended of the 3 campground groups.
Jun 25, 2023 · Violet HurleyPhenomenal camp ground. We were right by the river. Could have pitched four tents. It was quiet and absolutely gorgeous. The fly's were annoying but that is nature. Toilets are clean. They sell wood right at the camp site. I absolutely loved my two days there.
Oct 22, 2019 · brian bakerI kinda don't want to rate this. Tucked away in the mountains is a fantastic campground. Great place for family camping. Pit toilets kept in great shape, paved campsites, fire pits and water on the site. Great place to float and swim.
