Avery Creek Cabin Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" with the added comfort and amenities of a cabin, Avery Creek Cabin, located at 26881 Coeur D'Alene River Rd, Wallace, ID 83873, offers a promising retreat in a beautiful riverside setting. Based on recent customer reviews from September 2024, this cabin provides a comfortable and well-equipped base for exploring the natural beauty of the Coeur d'Alene River area. However, potential renters should be aware of a couple of recurring issues regarding hot water and the presence of packrats.
Embrace the Beauty of the Coeur d'Alene River Area
Avery Creek Cabin is situated in a "beautiful area with the river and campgrounds," indicating a prime location for outdoor enthusiasts. The immediate proximity to the Coeur d'Alene River, located "directly across the street," is a major draw, offering easy access for various water-related activities. While not explicitly detailed in the reviews, the Coeur d'Alene River is known for its scenic beauty and opportunities for fishing, floating, and enjoying the riverside environment. The surrounding area near Wallace, Idaho, is also rich in natural attractions, likely including hiking trails and other outdoor recreational opportunities.
The cabin itself is described as "extremely nice and comfortable," suggesting a well-appointed interior designed for a relaxing stay. The fact that it is "very clean and surprisingly well stocked" is a significant advantage, implying that renters can expect a tidy environment with many of the necessities already provided. This can greatly enhance the convenience and enjoyment of a cabin stay compared to more rustic camping options.
One reviewer also mentioned a "beautiful yard with a creek beside the fire pit," adding to the charm and appeal of the outdoor space surrounding the cabin. The presence of a creek near the fire pit creates a pleasant ambiance for evening gatherings and roasting marshmallows. A picnic table is also available, providing a dedicated space for outdoor meals and games.
Services and Amenities: Indoor Comforts with Noted Issues
Avery Creek Cabin offers several indoor amenities for a more comfortable "camping near me" experience:
- Indoor Bathroom: The cabin has an indoor bathroom, a significant convenience compared to typical campground facilities.
- Shower (with caveats): A shower is available, but both reviewers noted significant issues with the hot water. One described it as "very temperamental" with backwards controls (hot is cold, cold is hot) and an inability to regulate the temperature effectively. The other reviewer simply stated that hot water was "non existent," advising guests to be prepared for cold showers.
- Refrigerator (with caveats): The cabin is equipped with a refrigerator, but one reviewer mentioned that it "does not work very well," requiring them to use ice for their coolers.
- Fire Pit: An outdoor fire pit is provided for campfires and cooking.
- Picnic Table: A picnic table in the yard offers a dedicated space for outdoor dining and activities.
One reviewer also suggested the cabin was well-stocked, implying the presence of other useful items, although specifics were not provided. It's worth noting that one reviewer humorously requested that their fees be put towards a microwave, suggesting that this appliance may not currently be available.
A crucial piece of information for potential renters is that "dogs are not allowed at this cabin." This answers a common query for pet owners planning a getaway.
Features and Important Considerations
Avery Creek Cabin offers several attractive features:
- Riverside Location: Direct access to the Coeur d'Alene River provides opportunities for water-based activities and enjoying the scenic environment.
- Comfortable and Well-Stocked Cabin: The interior is described as nice, comfortable, clean, and surprisingly well-equipped, offering a more luxurious "camping near me" option.
- Beautiful Outdoor Space: The yard with a creek beside the fire pit and a picnic table enhances the outdoor living experience.
- Ample Space: The cabin can comfortably accommodate at least four people, with additional space for daytime visitors.
However, there are two significant issues that potential renters must be aware of:
- Temperamental or Non-Existent Hot Water: The recurring complaint about the shower's hot water system is a major drawback that could significantly impact comfort, especially during colder months. Renters should be prepared for the possibility of cold showers.
- Packrat Smell in the Garage: One reviewer reported a "pungent smell from the garage" caused by a significant packrat infestation. While the garage is reportedly locked, the strong urine odor made it "difficult to sit outside" for this reviewer. This issue could affect the enjoyment of the outdoor areas surrounding the cabin.
It is advisable for potential renters to inquire with the US Forest Service (USFS), who manages the cabin, about the current status of these issues before booking.
Promotional Information and Appeal to Local Users

- Enjoy the Outdoors: Highlight the beautiful yard with a creek beside the fire pit and the picnic table, ideal for outdoor relaxation, meals, and evening gatherings.
- Spacious Accommodation: Note that the cabin can comfortably accommodate families or small groups.
However, transparency regarding the known issues is crucial. Any promotional material should also include a disclaimer about the potential for temperamental or non-existent hot water in the shower and the possibility of a smell from packrats in the garage area. Potential messaging could be:
- Rustic Comfort with a River View: Enjoy a cozy cabin stay by the Coeur d'Alene River. Please be aware that hot water in the shower can be unreliable, and there may be a noticeable odor from packrats in the locked garage area.
To further enhance its appeal and address the reported issues, the USFS could consider:
- Addressing the Hot Water System: Repairing or replacing the shower's hot water system would significantly improve the guest experience.
- Implementing Pest Control Measures: Taking steps to mitigate the packrat issue in the garage and surrounding areas would enhance the enjoyment of the outdoor spaces.
- Providing Clear Information: Offer detailed information on what is included in the cabin's stock and any specific instructions for guests.
- Gathering Feedback: Continue to solicit and address guest feedback to ensure the cabin meets expectations to the best extent possible.

The cabin's cleanliness, comfort, and well-stocked interior, along with the attractive outdoor space, are significant advantages. By contacting the US Forest Service at (208) 664-2318 or +1 208-664-2318 to inquire about the current status of these issues, local users can make an informed decision about whether the overall appeal of Avery Creek Cabin outweighs these noted drawbacks for their desired getaway in the Coeur d'Alene River region.

Avery Creek Cabin Reviews
We spent 2 nights at the cabin the beginning of Sept 2024 and I would like to give it the 5 stars, but there was a couple of issues. It is a beautiful area with the river and campgrounds. The cabin is extremely nice and comfortable. Very clean and surprisingly well stocked. My only complaints are the shower and the smell from the garage. The shower was a nice addition, but the hot water is very temperamental and the dial is backwards. Hot is cold and cold is hot. When you finally get that working, the water gets very hot, but if you try to add cold, it loses the hot and goes all cold. The pungent smell from the garage is from packrats! Lots of them. The urine is so strong it makes it difficult to sit outside. We were unaware of exactly what the smell was until a ranger informed us. He stayed to stay out of the garage, it's locked anyways, because they are mean.Other than those items, it would get 5 stars. We hope to go again.Thank you USFS for offering such a nice cabin and keeping it beautiful. Also, put my fees towards a microwave 🙃
Sep 12, 2024 · Dena NechwedowichWe stayed for six days at this cabin, and it was so much fun. We visited the water every day which is located directly across the street. It has a bathroom indoors although be warned the hot water is non existent so be prepared to take an ice cold shower. We also had to get ice for our coolers as the fridge does not work very well. The yard is beautiful with a creek beside the fire pit,we spent every night playing games on the picnic table and roasting marshmallows over the fire. Dogs are not allowed at this cabin to answer that question many people search for, there were four of us but we had family visit for a day and plenty of space inside and out.we definitely enjoyed the space and will certainly rent it again.
Jul 27, 2023 · Kathy HauserThis is such a cute cabin, with a serious mouse issue. We had a lot of fun in the area and the view is gorgeous. The shower didn't work well (extremely low water pressure, think less than the sink faucet), but it was functional. Cute little well equipped kitchen.
Jun 09, 2019 · Meg CSmall, inexpensive cabin with water and electricity in a beautiful setting. Only drawback is that there is zero cell service and you have to drive a ways for any supplies you might need.
