Diversion Dam Campground Introduce
For local residents searching within the "camping near me" category, Diversion Dam Campground, situated in Elk Creek, CA (address: Elk Creek, CA 95939, USA), presents itself as a location with potential for a tranquil outdoor experience. Based on the available customer reviews, the campground offers access to scenic nature walks and is appreciated for its peaceful beauty. However, it's crucial for local users to also consider a concerning negative experience reported by one visitor to gain a balanced understanding before planning a trip.
One positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the natural beauty and peacefulness of the area surrounding Diversion Dam Campground. A visitor who was in the area visiting friends in Stoneyford mentioned being taken on several nature walks and chose to return a second time specifically because of the "peace and beauty" of the location. This suggests that the environment around the campground offers opportunities for leisurely exploration and appreciation of the natural landscape. For local campers seeking a serene escape and access to walking trails within their vicinity, Diversion Dam Campground could be an appealing option within the "camping near me" search.
However, a significant and concerning review details a highly negative experience involving the camp host. According to this account, a mother and her sister, who were displaced evacuees from the Paynes Creek area due to the Park Fire, sought refuge at Diversion Dam Campground. The reviewer states that within a short period, the camp host allegedly began to repeatedly harass the evacuee because she had two dogs and young children (under the age of three) who were perceived as "too loud." The reviewer expressed outrage at the lack of compassion and understanding shown by the camp host towards individuals in a vulnerable situation due to a natural disaster. This incident raises serious concerns about the management and hospitality at the campground.
The reviewer who shared this negative experience emphasized that the evacuees were not on a typical camping trip but were seeking shelter during an emergency. The strong emotional response, including the intention to inform a wide local network in Tehama and Butte Counties about the incident, underscores the severity of the alleged mistreatment. This feedback is critical for local users considering Diversion Dam Campground, as it suggests potential issues with the camp host's demeanor and handling of guests, particularly those in unforeseen circumstances.
Given this stark contrast in the two available reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should approach Diversion Dam Campground with caution and consider seeking further information before making a reservation. While the natural environment may offer peace and beauty, the reported behavior of the camp host is a serious concern that could significantly impact the camping experience.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding, local users could attempt to find additional reviews on other camping platforms or contact local authorities or camping organizations to inquire about the management and typical atmosphere at Diversion Dam Campground. It would also be prudent to understand the campground's policies regarding pets and noise levels, although the reported situation involved evacuees, which might warrant a more compassionate approach.
The limited information available makes it difficult to ascertain the typical services and features offered at Diversion Dam Campground. Basic amenities such as restrooms, water sources, and waste disposal might be available, but this cannot be confirmed based on the provided reviews. Local users with specific needs, such as RV hookups, fire pits, or picnic tables, would need to seek out additional information from other sources.
In conclusion, Diversion Dam Campground in Elk Creek, CA, presents a location praised for its peaceful environment and access to nature walks, making it potentially attractive for local campers seeking tranquility within the "camping near me" category. However, a deeply concerning report regarding the camp host's alleged mistreatment of displaced fire evacuees raises significant red flags about the management and overall guest experience. Local users should weigh these contrasting perspectives carefully and are strongly advised to seek further information and recent feedback from multiple sources before deciding to camp at Diversion Dam Campground. Understanding the current conditions and management practices will be crucial in making an informed decision about your local camping getaway.

Diversion Dam Campground Reviews
My mom and sister were evacuated from the Paynes Creek area during the Park Fire, and while seeking refuge, went to the diversion dam campground. She was there not even one whole day and the camp host started harassing her repeatedly because she has 2 dogs and young children (under 3) that were "to loud". What kind of camp host would treat displaced evacuees in such a way??? Where is the compassion and understanding? Its not like they were on a camping trip. The Park fire is no joke. How dare you conduct your self like that. I will be letting everyone I know in Red Bluff about this incident... and you can trust me on this, I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE IN TEHAMA AND BUTTE COUNTIES.Shame on you. 😡
