Davis Flat Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts searching within the "camping near me" category, Davis Flat Campground, located in Elk Creek, CA (address: Elk Creek, CA 95939, USA, phone: (530) 934-3316 or mobile: +1 530-934-3316), presents a camping experience with a distinct character. Based on recent customer feedback, this campground offers unique features, particularly for those interested in off-highway vehicle (OHV) activities and a more vibrant camping atmosphere. However, it's essential for local users to be aware of the campground's evolving environment to ensure it aligns with their expectations for a "camping near me" getaway.
One of the standout features of Davis Flat Campground, as highlighted by a recent visitor, is its extensive network of trails that wind throughout the surrounding mountains. For local campers who enjoy activities like dirt biking or side-by-side (SXS) riding, this campground appears to be a significant draw. The convenience of riding directly from a nearby cabin down to the campground further enhances its appeal for local residents with property in the area. The availability of diverse trails offers opportunities for exploration and adventure right in your local vicinity, making it a compelling option within the "camping near me" search.
Adding to the natural appeal, a creek runs alongside the campground, providing a refreshing respite after a long ride on the trails. Some trails even lead to spots where you can cool off in the creek, a valuable amenity, especially during warmer months. This natural water feature enhances the scenic environment and offers a unique way to relax and rejuvenate during your local camping experience.
In terms of the campground layout, it is described as "mostly one big open pit with a few other ones scattered along the road." This suggests a more communal camping setting in the main area, which could be conducive to larger groups or those seeking a social camping experience close to home. The scattered smaller sites along the road might offer a bit more seclusion. Local users should consider this layout when planning their trip, especially if they have preferences regarding campsite privacy and proximity to other campers.
It's important for local users to note a significant shift in the campground's atmosphere, as indicated by recent reviews. While it was once considered a "big family camping spot," there's a perception that it has become less family-friendly in recent years. One reviewer explicitly labels it a "PARTY SPOT!" and suggests it's more suitable for those who intend to stay up late and socialize. This change in atmosphere is attributed, in part, to inconsistent ranger presence, which has seemingly led to less regulation of noise and activities within the campground.
The reviewer who described it as a party spot mentioned experiencing SXS's and dirt bikes operating within the campground and into the hills until past 1 am. While this was acceptable for someone also there to ride, it significantly impacted their ability to sleep and be rested for the trails. Local campers seeking a quiet and peaceful night's sleep might find this environment challenging. Therefore, it's crucial for those searching "camping near me" for relaxation to weigh this feedback carefully.
On the practical side, Davis Flat Campground does offer dumpsters for garbage disposal, which is a basic yet essential amenity for maintaining cleanliness and environmental responsibility during your local camping trip. However, a significant drawback mentioned is the lack of cell service. Local users planning a visit must prepare accordingly, as communication with the outside world might be limited or non-existent. This is an important safety consideration, especially for those venturing out on the extensive trail system.
In summary, for local users exploring "camping near me," Davis Flat Campground in Elk Creek, CA, presents a unique option primarily geared towards OHV enthusiasts who don't mind a lively and potentially noisy camping environment. The campground boasts an extensive trail system for riding and creek access for cooling off. However, potential visitors should be aware that it is described as a "party spot" with inconsistent ranger presence and no cell service. If you are a local camper prioritizing direct trail access for OHVs and a social atmosphere, Davis Flat Campground might be a good fit. However, if you are seeking a quiet, family-friendly camping experience with reliable communication, you might want to consider other options within the "camping near me" category. It is recommended to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers for the most up-to-date information on rules, regulations, and current conditions before planning your local camping adventure.

Davis Flat Campground Reviews
Have a family cabin up near Davis flats campgrounds & enjoy riding down to the campground from the cabin. It’s a nice ride, the campground has a lot of different trails that take you throughout the mountains. There is a creek that runs along the campground and some trails that you can cool off in after a long ride. The camp ground is mostly one big open pit with a few other ones scattered along the road. This used to be a big family camping spot but over the last couple years it has gotten less family friendly. Dumpsters available for garbage. Rangers are so inconsistent with coming to check the campgrounds which is probably why it’s not as great as it used to be 3-5 years ago. Still a good place to ride though. No cell service available so prepare accordingly.
Dec 18, 2024 · Kelsey BollenbachPARTY SPOT! I would only camp here if you want to stay up late drinking etc... There were SXS's and dirt bikes ripping around the campground and into the hills until past 1am. I was here to ride dirt bikes, but I ALSO wanted to sleep so I could be fresh for the trails...Just be aware of what you're in for!
Nov 30, 2022 · Seth ParkerUses to be so much fun. Now its a sxs campground. Nothing but rude all night partiers. And no patrols. So gets illegal stuff going on all the time. Rangers just come in mornings and basic checks. Uses to be so family safe and now just a alcoholic hangout.
Jan 31, 2023 · KrisFun times. We had seven trailers circled up.
Dec 13, 2022 · Jacob ModellasNice spot to camp. Has a creek that runs along side it. Trails that go for miles! No cell service but if you ride far enough up the mountain you can get service.
