Donegal Campground is described by reviewers as "very nice and wooded" and "well shaded," suggesting a camping environment that offers natural beauty and relief from the sun. The presence of trees provides a sense of privacy and immersion in nature. While one reviewer noted that some sites, like Site 8, might be a "little hilly to get to," they also mentioned that the site itself was "level and gravel," indicating that the camping pads are well-maintained. The overall impression is of a campground that prioritizes a natural and comfortable setting for its guests. Its location in Donegal, PA, places it within the scenic Laurel Highlands region, known for its rolling hills and forested landscapes. Local users seeking "camping near me" will appreciate the proximity to this beautiful area.
The campground's location also offers convenient access to several points of interest. It is noted to be "close to Flight 93 memorial," making it a suitable base for those wishing to visit this significant historical site. Additionally, it is "fairly close to Seven Springs," a popular year-round resort offering various recreational activities. For those willing to travel a bit further, "Ohio Pyle isn't all that far away either," providing access to whitewater rafting and stunning natural scenery. This strategic location makes Donegal Campground a potentially attractive option for local users looking to combine their camping trip with exploring nearby attractions.
Services and Amenities for a Comfortable and Affordable Stay
Based on the reviews from campers, Donegal Campground offers essential services and amenities, focusing on cleanliness and a functional experience. While the facilities might be "dated," they are consistently described as "clean and work well." This suggests that the campground prioritizes maintaining a hygienic environment for its guests. Specific amenities mentioned include:
- Level Gravel Sites: At least some sites, like Site 8 which accommodated a 40-foot motorhome, are level and have a gravel surface, providing a stable base for RVs and potentially tents as well.
- Electric Hookups: Site 8 utilized electric hookups, indicating that at least some sites offer this service for RV campers. It's important to inquire about the availability and amperage of electric hookups for specific sites.
- Sewer Access: One reviewer noted that the sewer hookup was a "distance away" for their site. This suggests that sewer hookups might be available at some sites but their placement could vary. Tent campers would not typically utilize this amenity.
- Water Access: While not explicitly mentioned, access to potable water sources is a standard expectation at campgrounds and is likely available. Campers should confirm the location of water spigots when they check in.
- Restrooms: The bathrooms are described as "dated but clean and work well," indicating that while they might not be modern, they are functional and maintained to a satisfactory level of cleanliness.
- Swimming Pool: A "nice size" pool is available for guests to enjoy. It's noted that the pool is "filled from an underground spring so the water temp is quite cool most of the time," which might be refreshing on a hot summer day.
- Leach Bed System: The campground uses a leach bed system for sewage disposal, located in the woods. One long-term camper mentioned that during major holiday weekends with high occupancy, some "discomforts" related to this system might be noticeable.
The reviews also highlight the ownership and management of the campground. It is owned by Betty Yeckel, who is described as "very nice." Her son, Dan, who owns a nearby body shop, is also mentioned as being very helpful with the campground operations. This suggests a family-run business with a personal touch.
Features and Atmosphere for a Relaxing Getaway
Donegal Campground seems to emphasize a "laid back camping" experience, making it ideal for local users seeking a relaxed and unpretentious environment. The "small" size of the campground contributes to a quieter and more intimate atmosphere compared to larger, more bustling campgrounds. The "well shaded" sites further enhance the sense of tranquility and privacy.
The reviews suggest that while the campground offers essential amenities, it might not be the place for those seeking extensive organized activities or a lot of "hoopla." Instead, it provides a comfortable and clean base for enjoying nature and exploring the surrounding area. The proximity to attractions like the Flight 93 Memorial, Seven Springs, and Ohio Pyle offers opportunities for day trips and excursions, catering to a variety of interests.

Donegal Campground Reviews
We have a 40 foot motorhome. We were in Site 8.Very nice and wooded. A little hilly to get to the site, but not a problem. It is a level, gravel siteThe sewer was a distance away, but we only used electric, which was fine. Close to Flight 93 memorial.
Nov 03, 2024 · Kevie NewmanWe were seasonal campers here for 13 years. The campground is small but it is clean and well shaded. It is owned by Betty Yeckel. She's very nice. Her son Dan, owns and runs the body shop out next to the main road, Rte.31. He helps his mother tremendously with the campground. I see someone complained of a sewage smell. The campground uses a leach bed system that is in the woods below the place. When it is a major holiday weekend and the place is loaded up with campers, one should expect some discomforts. The bathrooms are dated but clean and work well. The pool is of nice size. It is filled from an underground spring so the water temp is quite cool most of the time. This place is as mentioned, close to the turnpike. It's also fairly close to Seven Springs. Ohio Pyle isn't all that far away either. This place is the cheapest in the area. If you want laid back camping, then go here. If your looking for a lot of hoopla, go elsewhere.
Mar 28, 2019 · Jeff HickmanA beautiful spot, easy to reach from the turnpike. Awesome pull through site with full hookups. Love the trees and quiet here. We will definitely camp here again.
May 13, 2021 · George SpiethPeaceful, well-kept campground. Helpful manager. After a very long day on the road, this was the perfect place to be. Thanks for a great visit.
Jul 08, 2023 · Kate LoweGreat customer service. Beautiful tall trees on site. Very generous spaces. Quiet and peaceful at night. Easy access to the highway and local attractions.
