DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience immersed in the sounds and sights of nature, DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND, located at 3106 125th Ave, Allegan, MI 49010, USA, offers a compelling option. Situated in a great location where the melodies of songbirds and bullfrogs fill the air, and the local wildlife like geese and goslings can be observed, this campground provides a natural retreat. The friendly atmosphere among fellow campers and the availability of kayak rentals at an attractive rate add to its appeal. However, it's important for prospective visitors to also consider some of the management and amenity-related concerns raised in recent reviews to form a balanced perspective.
The environment at DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND is undoubtedly one of its strongest assets. The positive review vividly describes the enjoyable experience of being surrounded by nature's symphony, from the chirping of songbirds to the croaking of bullfrogs. The presence of Dumont Lake itself attracts local wildlife, offering opportunities to observe geese and their young ones. This idyllic setting provides a welcome escape from the urban environment, allowing campers to reconnect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the lakeside. For those specifically looking for "camping near me" where they can immerse themselves in natural sounds and wildlife, Dumont Lake Family Campground appears to be a promising location.
One of the notable features of DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND is the strong sense of community reported by a visitor. The reviewer mentioned meeting several camping neighbors who were "very friendly and helpful," suggesting a welcoming and sociable atmosphere among the guests. This can be a significant draw for local users who appreciate interacting with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and fostering a sense of camaraderie during their camping trips. The potential to make new friends and share experiences adds another layer of enjoyment to the overall camping experience at Dumont Lake.
For those who enjoy exploring the water, DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND offers kayak rentals at a "great rate" of $10 each for 4 hours. This affordable amenity provides an excellent opportunity to experience Dumont Lake up close, paddle along its shores, and enjoy the scenery from a different perspective. Kayaking is a fantastic way to exercise, relax, and further connect with the natural environment of the lake. This feature makes the campground particularly appealing to local users seeking "camping near me" with on-site water-based activities.
Another frequently praised aspect of DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND is the cleanliness of its restrooms. The reviewer described them as "very nice and spotless," which is a crucial factor for the comfort and convenience of campers. Well-maintained and hygienic restroom facilities contribute significantly to a positive overall camping experience, and this positive feedback suggests that the campground prioritizes this aspect of guest comfort.
However, alongside these positive attributes, it's essential to acknowledge the concerns raised in the reviews regarding the management and certain amenities. One reviewer detailed several issues, including the office being closed during advertised hours, the lack of WiFi despite its mention on the website for RV sites, a failed septic inspection leading to the immediate disconnection of RVs, a persistent water leak at a neighboring rental RV that was reported but not fixed for days, and a mishap with ordered firewood that was never delivered. While the reviewer commendably stated they would still camp there in the future due to the pros, these cons highlight areas where the campground may need to improve its operational efficiency and communication with guests.
The discrepancy regarding WiFi is a significant point for modern travelers who often rely on internet connectivity. The website's inaccurate information could lead to frustration for RV campers who expect this amenity. Similarly, issues like a failed septic inspection and an unresolved water leak indicate potential maintenance and infrastructure challenges that prospective visitors should be aware of. The incident with the locked rental RV and the undelivered firewood further suggest inconsistencies in service delivery.
On a more positive note, another recent review from 2025 indicates a potentially improving situation. This reviewer had an issue with their electric service, called the office, received an answer, and had an electrician at their site within 45 minutes. The electrician thoroughly checked the system and resolved the issue, even though the problem seemed to be with the reviewer's surge protector. This prompt and effective response to an electrical problem suggests that the campground is capable of addressing maintenance issues efficiently when they are aware of them. The reviewer also mentioned that the "Campground looks amazing" and expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, noting a "new patio in the back," which could be a recent enhancement to the facilities.
Considering the mixed feedback, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the appealing natural environment, friendly community, and amenities like kayak rentals and clean restrooms against the reported management and amenity issues. The recent positive experience with the electrical service suggests that the campground may be taking steps to improve its responsiveness and overall condition. However, it would be prudent for prospective visitors to inquire about the current status of WiFi availability for RV sites, the reliability of office hours, and any recent improvements or updates to the facilities and services when making their reservations.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the positive aspects highlighted by satisfied customers, such as the great location, natural beauty, friendly atmosphere, and affordable kayak rentals, serve as implicit promotions. The mention of a new patio for the 2025 season could also be considered a form of promotional information, suggesting ongoing efforts to enhance the campground experience. To learn about any specific discounts, seasonal offers, or package deals, local users should contact DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND directly at (269) 509-1017 or +1 269-509-1017.
In conclusion, DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND in Allegan, MI, presents a natural and community-oriented "camping near me" option with the significant advantages of a beautiful lakeside setting, opportunities for wildlife observation, friendly fellow campers, and affordable kayak rentals. While some past reviews have pointed out management and amenity-related issues, more recent feedback indicates potential improvements in responsiveness. Local users considering a stay here should be aware of both the pros and cons and are encouraged to contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on services and facilities to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.

DUMONT LAKE FAMILY CAMPGROUND Reviews
Pros: Great location! I loved listening to all the songbirds and bull frogs and watching the geese and goslings. We met several camping neighbors, and they were all very friendly and helpful. Kayak rentals are offered for a great rate ($10 each for 4 hours). Very nice and spotless restrooms! We look forward to camping here again in the future.Cons: poorly managed. The office was closed several times when they were advertised as open. The website indicates the RVs included WiFi, but they don't have WiFi. Inspectors came during our stay, and the septic inspection failed, so all the RVs that were hooked up had to be immediately disconnected. The water connection for the rental RV next to us was spraying water the entire 10 days we were there, and the problem was reported on day 2 (the handle was shut off). They don't have a spare key for the rental, and I accidentally locked myself out. Thankfully, the key was on the table, and I was able to slide open the window and reach in to grab it. We ordered firewood, and it was never delivered. Thankfully we weren't charged. We just went down to the corner store to buy some. Given all these things, I would still camp here in the future due to all the pros. Hopefully, the owners will get the other issues handled soon.
May 30, 2024 · Kimberlee KenyonHad an issue with Electric called the office and they answered and I told them what was going on and within 45 minutes had an Electrician at my site. He looked over everthing and tested the Campgrounds Electric and it was good and then he tested my Surger Protector all was good there and then he plugged me in and it made a liar out of me. Not sure what the issue was but it was address immediately. 2025 is going to be a great Season. Campground looks amazing and I love the new patio in the back.
May 02, 2025 · MichelleBeautiful little campground. Very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the rustic camp area and had a great time. Caught a few fish in the ponds on the property, including a bass !We will definitely be coming back here again!
Jul 13, 2023 · AlexandriaThis is a great campground especially for families that like it a bit more quiet. The playground is loads of fun for all ages. The fishing ponds are very large and full of life and will definately lead to hours of fun catching frogs, fish and turtles. The lakefront beach is beautiful and clean, and a great place to park your boat or launch your kayaks and have a day out on the great Dumont Lake. And did I mention the whole park is dog friendly?! If your pups love the water this place is perfect! And the campsites are probably some of the best I have ever stayed at. The sites are very spacious, well kept and perfectly shaded. Will be back, this place is a gem and gets 11/10 from our family!
Jul 08, 2022 · Olive VictorIt’s not the worst but far from the best campground in the area. The bathrooms are brand new which is nice but there isn’t any signage to find them. The lake as beautiful but a little far from the campground to walk though you can drive down and parking is available. At the time of check in there wasn’t anyone in the office - on any given day. Our site was right on the road, we camped in tents. The white truck is on the road driving past the tent. Very close. The playground is minimal and outdated yet kids can still enjoy the equipment.
