Early Winters Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that offers both natural beauty and tranquility? Early Winters Campground, located on State Rte 20 in Winthrop, WA 98862, USA, presents an appealing option for those seeking a peaceful escape. This small campground, divided into two sections on either side of the highway, is praised for its scenic environment and quiet atmosphere. With limited sites and creek access, it offers a more intimate connection with nature. For local users seeking a serene camping getaway, Early Winters Campground warrants consideration.
The environment of Early Winters Campground is consistently described as "gorgeous and quiet" by visitors. The campground's layout, with only approximately six sites on each side of the highway, contributes to its secluded and peaceful ambiance. A significant natural feature is the creek that runs alongside the campground, providing easy access to its waters. The soothing sounds of the creek and the opportunity for water-related activities can greatly enhance the camping experience. The limited number of campsites suggests a lower density of campers, further contributing to the quiet and potentially more private atmosphere compared to larger campgrounds.
In terms of services and features, Early Winters Campground offers essential amenities for a comfortable, albeit somewhat rustic, camping experience. Potable water is available for campers' use, a crucial feature for any overnight stay. The presence of pit toilets indicates that restroom facilities are provided, although they are non-flush and require a different approach to hygiene compared to modern restrooms. A trash dumpster is located on the north side of the highway, providing a designated place for campers to dispose of their waste, helping to maintain the cleanliness of the campground and surrounding environment.
However, it's important to note that Early Winters Campground does not offer an RV dump station. This is a significant consideration for RV travelers who require this facility as part of their camping setup. RVers planning to stay at Early Winters Campground will need to plan for waste disposal elsewhere. The nightly fee for camping is a very affordable "$12 per night," making it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers. The low cost, combined with the scenic location, offers good value for those seeking a simple and nature-focused camping experience.
The reviews also provide some additional context and practical information. The mention of "Only 6 sites on the south side of the highway and approximately 6 on the other side" confirms the small size of the campground, which can be a significant advantage for those seeking a less crowded environment. The easy access to the creek is reiterated, highlighting its importance as a natural amenity.
One review recounts a personal experience of a disrupted family camping plan due to unforeseen circumstances, ultimately leading the reviewer to a nearby resort (Freestone resort). While this part of the review doesn't directly describe Early Winters Campground itself, it does place the campground within the context of the broader Winthrop area and mentions an alternative accommodation option. The reference to "eastern Washington in flames" likely alludes to wildfire activity in the region at the time of the review (though not specifically at Early Winters), which is a factor to be aware of when camping in this area, particularly during dry seasons. It's always advisable to check for current fire conditions and any related advisories before planning a camping trip.
The review mentioning the change in camping plans and the subsequent stay at Freestone resort with a "Helo pad and all" serves as a contrast to the more basic amenities of Early Winters Campground. This highlights the different types of outdoor experiences available in the Winthrop area, ranging from rustic campgrounds to more developed resorts.
Given the limited information in the reviews regarding specific promotional offers, it is safe to assume that Early Winters Campground primarily relies on its natural beauty, quiet atmosphere, and low cost to attract visitors. Campgrounds with such low fees often operate on a first-come-first-served basis and may not have elaborate promotional campaigns. Local users interested in staying at Early Winters Campground should likely contact the provided phone numbers – (509) 996-4003 or +1 509-996-4003 – to inquire about availability, any specific regulations, or seasonal information.
In conclusion, Early Winters Campground near Winthrop, WA, offers a charming and tranquil "camping near me" option for those who appreciate a smaller, creek-side setting. Its key features include a beautiful and quiet environment, easy access to a creek, potable water, and a very affordable nightly fee. Campers should be aware that the campground has pit toilets and no RV dump facility. The limited number of sites enhances the sense of seclusion. While one review mentions regional wildfire conditions (not specific to the campground), it's always prudent to check current conditions before traveling. For local users seeking a simple, scenic, and budget-friendly camping experience in the Winthrop area, Early Winters Campground is a worthwhile option to consider. Contacting the provided phone number can offer the most up-to-date information on availability and any specific guidelines for campers.

Sep 11, 2019 · Rick PenningtonA trip of confusion. We started out planning a camping trip with family. Labor day traffic and just before leaving our daughter called said everything has changed. Ok so strip down the car try to reorganize the new needs list, check. Now we are going to be in a near by resort. So much for checking out the bug out bag. This trip had been fraught with pending failure for two months now. Good lord what's it going be next. So now we've gone from eastern Washington in flames to waking up to..see photos below.Welcome to Freestone resort with Helo pad and all.
Sep 03, 2018 · Walter WardI enjoyed this little campsite very much. We got there at nine in the morning and there was only one spot left. It was right next to the river but next to the road at the same time. Self serve pay and bathrooms are the usual. Smelly and small. I only saw one water spout that was kinda near/in someone's campsite.
Jul 23, 2017 · Michelle PhanthavongBeautiful area. Really small, less.than 12 sites and primitive but really peaceful with miles of hiking or bicycling trails.
Jul 20, 2019 · Lar VanCamp hosts here were nice and super far off the campground. The spots were dusty but managable. We had spot 10 which provided 50% shade during the day. They have a few potable water spigots which is nice. We stayed on the Westbound side of the campground and if you cross the footbridge and walk down Early Winters Creek there is a very nice swimming hole for kiddos and a wade pool for adults.
