East Fork State Park Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines spacious campsites with a variety of outdoor activities, East Fork State Park Campground, located at 2837 Old State Rte 32 in Batavia, Ohio (45103, USA), presents a compelling option within the expansive East Fork State Park. Reviews from regular visitors highlight the park's appeal for families and outdoor enthusiasts, noting the generous size of the camping sites and the abundance of natural attractions. While some concerns have been raised regarding specific incidents and certain limitations of the facilities, the overall sentiment suggests a great place to camp with much to explore.
The environment of East Fork State Park Campground is rich and diverse. The park itself boasts a large lake suitable for kayaking and fishing, as mentioned by a reviewer who enjoyed kayaking on the lake to the left of the beach and observed numerous birds, including an eagle and eaglet, along a river connected to it. The same reviewer noted fish jumping frequently, indicating a healthy aquatic ecosystem. Wildlife sightings appear to be common, with deer visiting the campground loops in the early morning. The presence of a beach offers opportunities for swimming, although one reviewer described it as "pretty nice but full of vultures" and noted that the water was "shallow & rocky," suggesting that while usable, it might have some drawbacks. The terrain includes hills, with one described as "giant" leading to the beach and boat launch, posing a challenge for biking or carrying kayaks to the water. However, the park also offers a bike path, providing an alternative way to explore, although it too has hills. One loop, G loop, is noted for having the "most shaded sites," which could be a significant advantage during warmer months, although campers should be aware that some of these sites have a drop-off from the camping pad.
In terms of services and features, East Fork State Park Campground provides a range of amenities to accommodate campers. The "very spacious sites" are consistently mentioned as a positive feature, offering ample room for families and camping setups. While specific details about hookups (electric, water, sewer) aren't provided in the reviews, state park campgrounds often offer a variety of site types, ranging from primitive to those with full hookups. The presence of a nearby "barbecue place and bait shop/pizza/ice cream near park entrance" is a convenient feature, offering dining and essential supplies within easy reach, especially since it's accessible by bike. The reviewer who tried the ice cream found it to be good. The mention of "Sasquatch events 3rd Saturday in September" suggests that the park hosts unique and potentially entertaining activities, which could be a draw for some local users. While restroom and shower facilities are not explicitly reviewed, they are typically available at state park campgrounds.
However, the reviews also highlight some potential concerns. One camper reported a disturbing incident involving individuals doing drugs at a nearby campsite, emphasizing that while this was an isolated experience over many years of visiting, it's a factor to be aware of. The description of the beach as having "vultures" and being "shallow & rocky" might deter some swimmers. The significant hill to the beach and boat launch presents a physical challenge for those wanting to access the water with bikes or kayaks. The bike path also having hills is another point for cyclists to note. The limited information about specific campsite amenities and the absence of reviews detailing the condition of restrooms and showers leave some questions unanswered.
Based on the available reviews, East Fork State Park Campground offers the following features:
- Spacious campsites, suitable for various camping setups.
- Access to East Fork Lake for kayaking and fishing.
- A beach area for swimming, with noted limitations.

- Details about hiking trails accessible from the campground.
- Regulations regarding pets.
- Information about boat rentals or launch fees.

In conclusion, East Fork State Park Campground offers a "camping near me" option with the significant advantage of spacious campsites and access to the diverse natural resources of East Fork State Park, including a lake for kayaking and fishing, a beach (with considerations), and opportunities for wildlife viewing. While there are some points to be aware of, such as the challenging hill to the beach and boat launch, and a past isolated incident reported by a reviewer, the overall experience seems positive for those looking to enjoy the outdoors. East Fork State Park Campground Reviews
I take my 13 year old son about 2-4 times a year and sometimes I take my mom with us. I can let him ride his bike without worrying to much except this past weekend their were some creepy guy and a lady doingdrugs at their camp site (this was the first time that my son has ever told me about drugs being done their and I have never seen anyone doing any in the many years ive been coming here). Other than that, great place to camp and the only one I will ever go too, very spacious sites.
Apr 29, 2025 · billy eichThe beach was pretty nice but full of vultures, and the water was shallow & rocky. Kayaked on the lake to the left of the beach down a river and saw lots of birds, including an eagle and eaglet. Fish were jumping everywhere ! Three deer visited the loop in the early a.m. The hill to the beach and boat launch is giant, so can't bike or carry kayaks to the water. There is a barbecue place and bait shop/pizza/ice cream near park entrance. We were able to ride bikes to it. Ice cream was all we tried but it was good. Sasquatch events 3rd Saturday in September. They look like fun. G loop has the most shaded sites but be aware some of the sites drop off from the camping pad. The bike path is another hill which isn't stated. It takes you to the water if you take the little path to the right of the sitting area.
Sep 20, 2024 · Joyce MichaelPros: Great campground, spacious sites with lots of shade, the campsites are divided into loops so it never feels crowded! There is a nice playground for kids in loop C. Nice bike trail and lots of hiking trails. The beach is small but it is only for campers so not too busy.Cons: bathroom could use some upgrades!Dump station only accommodates two RV’s at a time, so when is time to leave be prepared to spend an extra hour waiting in line to empty your tanks.Fresh water! Hard to find fresh water spigots in loops, must feel up at dump station before you set up for camping!Putt Putt is very small and it cost $3 dollars per person.
Jul 07, 2024 · Santos LozanoHad a wonderful time at this State Park. So many choices of sites for tent or RV camping. Personnel was great and very helpful. Enjoyed hiking and biking. Great place to bring horses and stay in Loop A
Sep 05, 2024 · Sherry HA large yet intimate park, with several spokes that each have their own bath facilities. Plenty of space between campsites. The grounds were clean and well maintained. The park staff extremely competent and very helpful. Especially Jana who went out of her way to help me out with an emergency even after office hours. I would camp here any time I’m in the area. The lots have plenty of shade trees and very few bugs, campfires rings, picnic tables, electric and level slabs at each site. I couldn’t ask for more.
