Ed Allen's Campgrounds Introduce
If you are searching for "camping near me" in the Lanexa, Virginia area, Ed Allen's Campgrounds, located at 13501 Campground Rd, Lanexa, VA 23089, USA, presents itself as a potential option. However, recent customer reviews paint a mixed picture of the facilities and management, which local users should carefully consider before making a reservation. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available feedback, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects to help you make an informed decision.
The environment of Ed Allen's Campgrounds appears to have some appealing aspects. One reviewer who stayed in a tent site in June mentioned "beautiful views," suggesting that the location offers scenic vistas. This could imply a setting with natural beauty, perhaps overlooking a body of water or surrounded by pleasant landscapes. However, this positive note is contrasted by significant concerns regarding the upkeep of the camping areas.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide conflicting information. On the positive side, one reviewer lauded the "restaurant" as "delicious" with "amazing staff." This indicates that the campground offers an on-site dining option that is well-regarded for its food and service. This could be a significant convenience for campers who prefer not to cook all their meals. However, this positive aspect seems to be an exception rather than the norm based on the other feedback.
The tent sites are a major area of concern. The same reviewer who mentioned beautiful views described the tent sites as "not taken care of AT ALL." Specific issues included "picnic tables" that were "all garbage and falling apart." This suggests a lack of maintenance and investment in the basic infrastructure of the tent camping areas. Furthermore, the "bathhouse" was described as "absolutely terrifying and disgusting," with a significant "bug" infestation, leading to a feeling of being "filthy." These are serious concerns regarding hygiene and the basic comfort expected at a campground.
Another significant feature mentioned is a "main fishing pier." However, this amenity is also flagged as unsafe, with the reviewer stating it is a "fish at your own risk due to it absolutely falling apart and unsafe." This indicates a potentially hazardous condition of a key recreational facility within the campground, raising concerns about the overall maintenance and safety standards.
Beyond the physical facilities, one of the reviews details a highly negative experience with the management. A visitor who had camped there many times in the past attempted to visit for a day on July 4th, 2024. This individual, who had recently undergone back surgery, was allegedly treated poorly by a man claiming to be the owner. The review describes being denied a temporary drop-off at the campsite due to perceived dishonesty, being directed to an overflow lot, and then facing a confrontational encounter with a staff member. This staff member reportedly acted rudely and made false accusations, ultimately leading the visitor and their family to leave and request a refund due to the unwelcoming and unprofessional treatment. The subsequent call from the office to the visitor's nephew, accusing them of being rude to the employee, further exacerbates the negative impression of the management's approach to customer service.
Considering the platform category "camping near me," Ed Allen's Campgrounds presents a cautionary tale. While it may offer some appealing environmental aspects and a well-regarded restaurant, the significant issues raised in the reviews regarding the condition of the tent sites, the state of the bathhouse and fishing pier, and the negative interaction with management cannot be ignored by local users seeking a pleasant camping experience.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. Instead, the recent customer experiences serve as a stark warning. Potential local users searching for a reliable and well-maintained campground should weigh these negative reviews heavily against any potential benefits. The discrepancy between the positive feedback about the restaurant and the overwhelmingly negative comments about the camping facilities and management suggests a significant disparity in the quality of different aspects of the campground.
For local users who might be considering Ed Allen's Campgrounds based on its location, it is strongly recommended to seek further, more recent reviews from multiple sources to gain a broader understanding of the current state of the facilities and management practices. Contacting the campground directly using the provided phone numbers, (804) 966-2582 or mobile phone +1 804-966-2582, to inquire about the current condition of the tent sites, bathhouses, and fishing pier, as well as their policies regarding day visitors and accessibility, would be a prudent step before making any plans.
In conclusion, while Ed Allen's Campgrounds may boast "beautiful views" and a "delicious" restaurant with "amazing staff," the serious concerns raised about the dilapidated tent sites, the disgusting bathhouse, the unsafe fishing pier, and unprofessional management practices, as reported by recent customers, should give local users significant pause. If you are searching for "camping near me" and value cleanliness, safety, and respectful treatment, it would be wise to thoroughly investigate the current conditions and consider alternative campgrounds in the Lanexa, VA area that consistently receive positive feedback regarding their facilities and customer service.

We stayed in a tent site in June ! The views are beautiful but - picnic tables are all garbage and falling apart , the bathhouse is absolutely terrifying and disgusting! The bugs have over taken and I felt filthy !! The main fishing pier is fish at your own risk due to it absolutely falling apart and unsafe. Not to mention the nat infestation. Aug 11, 2024 · Michelle PearsonWent to Ed Allen’s campground today have camped there many times but I just went for the day on July fourth 2024. Was stopped by a man before getting to the camp store where we were going to check in. The man informs us he is the owner and if we want to go end we have to park in overflow lot. My wife informs him I just had back surgery and if she could drop me off at the camp site we were. He tells her no that he heard all kind of stories today and we would have to walk from the overflow lot like we we’re telling him a lie so we leave. The people we were going to see calls us and asked what happened so they come back and they would give us a ride. So we go back and check in so my wife says she’ll drop me at campsite and go back to overflow lot. We go to the site and she drops off so she parks the car for a minute. While I’m at the sight this girl comes up on a golf cart doesn’t say who she is demanding to know who’s camp site this. I’m just sitting in a chair and tell her it’s my nephews site.My nephew comes up and wants to know what’s going on because the girl is going crazy running her mouth and let anyone say anything. Then she starts going off on my nephew finally she leaves. Everybody’s standing there trying to figure out what is going on. Ten minutes later she comes back demanding to know who is Billy Conner and stand up out my chair and say I am. Then she starts going off again saying I was lying to her and I hadn’t even talked to her.So I tell my wife to get our stuff and let’s leave . So we get our money back because if they are treating people like this we don’t want to stay there. Then after we left the office calls my nephew and says we very rude to there employee who didn’t even say who she was and she is the one that was being rude. If that guy we talked to who said he was the owner he needs to find out how to run a campground. So save your money and go camping somewhere else where the people running it are glad that you’re there.
Jul 05, 2024 · Billy ConnerEd Allen's is a beautiful campground. If you love to walk, ride in a golf cart, swim ,fish, and simply enjoy amazing outdoor spaces with wonderful people, this is the place for you!!! I stayed in a great cabin that was well stocked and so clean!
Jun 23, 2024 · carol slaterMy favorite place to camp. Family owned and operated. My husband and I have never had a bad experience. The grandkids love fishing at their private pond, hanging out at the playground, or participating in one of the many activities on themed weekends. There has also been many upgrades to the campground. This past year, multiple sites were added to accommodate larger rigs. I highly recommend you stop by for a visit.
Oct 27, 2023 · Ann PhinneyStayed here several times. a whole month also. Absolute best campground we have been to. Always a fun time had by all. Undoubtedly the best camp host/owners we have ever met. Super polite and caring staff, Awesome place to fish in the ponds. Near the lake. And just a great feeling overall.
