Rockahock Campground Introduce
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category in the vicinity of Lanexa, Virginia, Rockahock Campground, located at 1428 Outpost Rd, Lanexa, VA 23089, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. You can contact them at (804) 966-8362 or +1 804-966-8362. While one reviewer praised the campground for being "very quiet and roomy" with easy access, the other shared a deeply negative experience regarding their deposit policy after a last-minute cancellation. It's crucial for potential visitors to consider both perspectives when evaluating this campground for their "camping near me" needs.
One positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the environment. The campground is described as "very quiet," which can be a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing getaway in nature. Additionally, the campsites are noted to be "roomy," suggesting ample space for RVs and potentially tent setups, allowing for more comfort and privacy compared to tightly packed campgrounds. The easy access ("easy to get in and out") is also a practical advantage, particularly for larger RVs or those who value convenience.
However, a significant concern was raised regarding the campground's deposit policy. One reviewer, a spouse of a traveling nurse, recounted a situation where they had to cancel a reservation made four days prior due to a paperwork issue with the employer. Despite it being the "dead, middle of winter" and the campground having "plenty of open places," the entire $250 deposit was retained. The reviewer expressed feeling misled by an initial indication of flexibility and strongly recommended looking elsewhere, labeling the campground's practices as "crooks" and citing a lack of understanding or willingness to work with them on the cancellation. This experience highlights a potentially rigid cancellation and deposit policy that prospective campers should be aware of, especially when booking in advance or for longer stays.
Another issue mentioned in the reviews, albeit by a different guest, was a problem with sewage. While the reviewer noted that the staff "tried to be condescending" when addressing the issue, the fact that a sewage problem occurred is a point of concern regarding the campground's infrastructure and maintenance. The reviewer's perception of the staff's attitude in handling the problem also warrants consideration, as it suggests a potentially negative customer service experience in certain situations. Despite this issue, the reviewer still concluded that "other than that, it was wonderful," indicating that the problem might have been resolved or was not a pervasive issue for their entire stay, but it's still a factor to keep in mind.
Based on these reviews, the services and features of Rockahock Campground can be summarized as:
- **Quiet Environment:** Suitable for those seeking a peaceful camping experience.
- **Roomy Campsites:** Offering ample space for RVs and tents.
- **Easy Access:** Convenient for entering and exiting the campground.
- **Potential Sewage Issues:** One reviewer reported a problem with sewage.
- **Potentially Rigid Deposit Policy:** Significant deposit retention even for cancellations with notice, according to one review.
- **Variable Customer Service:** One reviewer perceived the staff as condescending when addressing an issue.
The reviews do not provide specific details about other common campground amenities such as the availability and cleanliness of bathhouses, laundry facilities, recreational areas (playgrounds, trails, etc.), or the presence of hookups (water, electric, sewer) at the campsites. Therefore, local users interested in these aspects would need to inquire directly with the campground.
Given the conflicting feedback, it is challenging to provide a straightforward recommendation. The positive comments regarding the quiet atmosphere and spacious sites are appealing, especially for those prioritizing these aspects in their "camping near me" search. However, the serious concerns raised about the deposit policy and the potential sewage issue cannot be ignored. The negative experience with the deposit, in particular, suggests a risk for campers who might need to cancel their reservations, even with a few days' notice and during a period of low occupancy.
For local users considering Rockahock Campground, it is strongly recommended to:
- **Inquire about the Cancellation and Deposit Policy:** Before making a reservation, thoroughly understand the campground's policy regarding cancellations and deposit refunds. Get this information in writing if possible.
- **Ask about Infrastructure Maintenance:** Inquire about the age and maintenance of their sewage system to gauge the likelihood of encountering similar issues.
- **Seek Recent Reviews from Multiple Sources:** Look for more recent reviews on various platforms to see if the issues mentioned are isolated incidents or ongoing problems.
- **Clarify Available Amenities:** If specific amenities are important to your camping experience (e.g., hookups, restrooms, activities), confirm their availability and condition with the campground directly.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users would need to contact the campground directly or visit their website (if they have one) to inquire about any special offers, discounts, or long-term stay rates.
In conclusion, Rockahock Campground offers the potential for a quiet and roomy camping experience in Lanexa, Virginia, which might appeal to local users seeking a peaceful "camping near me" option. However, the significant negative feedback regarding the rigid deposit policy and a reported sewage issue are serious considerations that potential visitors must weigh carefully. Thoroughly investigating the campground's current policies and infrastructure by contacting them directly and seeking additional recent reviews is crucial before making a booking decision.

Rockahock Campground Reviews
My wife is a traveling nurse. And as other traveling nurses know, you receive a contract and literally begin work within a couple of weeks. We have traveled all over the country and stayed at many, many, many places, and I have never had to leave a bad review for any R. V park before. With this particular park, my wife was offered a position which he accepted, so I immediately caught around to make a reservation and 4 days later I had to cancel the reservation because there was a mix up and some paperwork with my wife's employer. Even though it is the dead, middle of winter and disestablishment has plenty of open places. They decided to keep our entire $250 deposit.Even though our reservation did not prevent them from being able to rent out the spot in that 4 day time period i would highly recommend that you look elsewhere. To stay as these people are obviously crooks, and there is no understanding with them. They they told me that they would work with me. When I first made the call about the reservation and all of that changed 4 days later. These people nothing but a bunch of liars and thieves. Do not tell people. That are long-term, especially that you understand that things come up and that you would work with us, and then all of a sudden, go back on that. I could completely understand if you had to take a portion of the deposit but to keep the entire deposit, it's completely insane. If people do not mind doing business with crooks, then by all means, stay here.
Feb 04, 2025 · Gerald StellarVery quiet and roomy. It's easy to get in and out. Had a problem with sewage, and the staff tried to be condescending. Guess they have dealt with too many who don't know what they were doing. Other than that, it was wonderful.
Dec 17, 2024 · Dan BrooksI have been coming here since I was 8 years old. I love rockahock, family have owned lots there. We still continue to come with our travel trailer.
Mar 30, 2025 · Brad StullerHave to be honest, if you're here to get away from it all this probably isn't the place for you. BUT!!! If you're here to visit Williamsburg and the surrounding attractions, this is your spot! Scenery is beautiful, the fishing is great and I have to say the staff and the residents are fantastic. Battery died in my truck while I was fishing and was assisted immediately by a couple of friendly residents there 🤗. And when I was done fishing and ready to leave I found a note on my truck saying that I overpaid for the kayak launch fee and they told me to come in and grab my money. This place is fantastic!
Aug 29, 2024 · Joseph ReeceNice serene place to pull up your RV. The staff is very friendly. I enjoy the sunsets and the laid back atmosphere. I just started RVing and this is my go-to place…at least for now. I find comfort here just a few miles from the city hustle and bustle amongst many other things that I won’t speak about here..this is about Rockahock! I love this place.
