Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday Introduce
For local users in the Elizabethtown and Hershey, Pennsylvania area seeking a "camping near me" experience with recognizable amenities, the Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday, located at 1980 Turnpike Rd, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, USA, is a campground option affiliated with the well-known Kampgrounds of America (KOA) chain. You can contact them at (717) 367-7718 or +1 717-367-7718 for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers certain appealing features, but potential guests should also be aware of reported issues regarding policies and customer service.
The environment of the Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday is described by one reviewer as "clean and tidy," suggesting a well-maintained overall appearance. The presence of a miniature golf course, which was highlighted as "excellent and well lit," indicates that the campground offers on-site recreational activities for guests of all ages. The mention of good security with staff "constantly checking parking passes etc." suggests that the campground prioritizes the safety and security of its guests and their belongings. However, the reviews do not provide extensive details about the natural surroundings, such as the presence of wooded areas, proximity to water features, or the general scenic quality of the location beyond the immediate campground grounds.
The services and amenities at KOA campgrounds typically include a range of offerings to enhance the camping experience. Based on the positive review, Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday provides a miniature golf course. The mention of security staff implies that guest safety is a service provided. However, the reviews also highlight areas where services fell short for some visitors. One reviewer recounted a negative experience regarding late check-in, where they were informed they could only check in after 9:30 the next morning despite arriving late due to unforeseen circumstances, and would forfeit their three-day deposit. This suggests a rigid policy with limited flexibility. Another significant issue reported was a malfunctioning smoke detector in the cabin that chirped all night, causing a loss of sleep. The resolution required waiting for the office to open, and even battery replacement did not fix the problem, with no offer of compensation for the inconvenience. A separate review detailed a frustrating experience with the cancellation policy, where a guest had to cancel a Halloween weekend reservation within the 10-day window due to a family emergency requiring travel out of state. Despite multiple attempts to contact the owner for a refund or credit, the calls were reportedly not returned, leading to a complete loss of the reservation cost. These accounts suggest potential inflexibility in policies and challenges in resolving customer service issues.
The features of Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday include the miniature golf course, which seems to be a popular amenity. The emphasis on security with regular checks is another notable feature aimed at providing peace of mind to guests. However, the reported inflexibility in handling late arrivals and cancellations, as well as the lack of proactive resolution for issues like a malfunctioning smoke detector, could be seen as negative features that detract from the overall experience. The KOA brand itself is a feature, as it often implies a certain standard of amenities and organization, but the individual experiences at this particular location seem to vary. The proximity to both Elizabethtown and Hershey could be considered a feature, offering convenient access to local attractions in both towns, although this is not explicitly detailed in the reviews provided.
The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers or discounts at the Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday. KOA campgrounds often have their own rewards programs or offer seasonal promotions, so local users interested in potential deals should check the official KOA website or inquire directly when making a reservation. It would be prudent to ask about their policies regarding late check-in, cancellations, and how they handle issues that arise during a stay to avoid the negative experiences reported by other guests.
Considering the "camping near me" category for local users in the Elizabethtown and Hershey area, the KOA Holiday offers a familiar brand and some on-site amenities like miniature golf and security. However, the reported inflexibility in policies, particularly regarding late check-in and cancellations, and the challenges in resolving issues like a malfunctioning smoke detector, are significant drawbacks that potential guests should be aware of. The lack of responsiveness to a cancellation request due to a family emergency is also a serious concern. While the campground might be clean and tidy, these negative experiences related to customer service and policy enforcement could outweigh the benefits of the amenities for some local users. It is crucial to understand the campground's policies thoroughly before booking, especially regarding potential late arrivals or the need for cancellations.
Local users considering the Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday should weigh the potential benefits of the KOA brand and on-site amenities against the reported issues with inflexible policies and customer service. It would be advisable to inquire specifically about their procedures for late check-ins, their cancellation policy, and how they handle maintenance issues during a stay. Reading additional reviews from other sources might also provide a more comprehensive picture of the typical guest experience at this location. Understanding these aspects will help local users make an informed decision about whether this campground meets their needs for a "camping near me" getaway.
In conclusion, the Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday offers a "camping near me" option with amenities like miniature golf and a focus on security. However, potential local users should be aware of reported issues concerning inflexible policies regarding late check-in and cancellations, as well as challenges in resolving maintenance problems and a lack of responsiveness in certain customer service situations. While the campground might be clean and tidy, these negative experiences shared by previous guests are important factors to consider before booking a stay. It is recommended that local users thoroughly investigate the campground's policies and recent reviews from various sources to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.

Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday Reviews
Clean and tidy. Miniature golf was excellent, and well lit.Security is good with staff constantly checking parking passes etc.. The staff however has no power to be flexible. When we contacted them to let them know that circumstances would cause us to arrive late at night, were told that we could only check in after 9:30 the next morning, and would forfeit our three day deposit. This forced our two car group to travel separately, causing me to miss my grand son's Track meet to save our deposit. Our next gripe was a smoke detector that chirped all night. We had to wait for the office to open for them to replace it's batteries which still didn't fix the problem. There was no suggestion of compensation for our lost nights sleep So apparently financial mercy applies to the campground, but not to the campers. Nice place, but we won't be back.
Oct 12, 2024 · Kevin BlackHad our reservation for Halloween weekend had to cancel with in the 10 day before that weekend because I had to fly to Florida because the Hurricane hit my brother in law house and rip the roof off he did 3 tours in Vietnam And I figure out my obligation to help a vet get back on his feet. I could not get the owner to return my phone calls so I could get a refund or even a credit for Another stay I tried 3 times to get a hold of someone we will never go back there But I did get the satisfaction of helping a Vietnam vet. If I could, I would give a minus stars? For my review
Nov 22, 2024 · Mike SokalskyFirst time here in Pennsylvania. It was within a reasonable distance from everything that we had wanted to see and do. The campground was spacious, well maintained and the staff was more than helpful and friendly at all times. On the day we were leaving our truck would not start. We went to the office to let them know that we were having trouble getting the truck to start. She told us that they have a battery tester and that she would send the guy to our spot. When he came he was able to jump start the truck and told us where we could go to have the battery changed out. Needless to say they were more than good about us extending our leave time as we headed out to get the battery fixed. I cannot express how grateful we were for their help!
Sep 03, 2024 · Jewell FolsomThis place is a pleasure to visit! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful from the moment you get on property. The grounds are extremely well maintained, from the clean sites, cabins, bathrooms, pool, volleyball court, playground, store etc. The bathrooms are extremely clean and well taken care of. The staff are extremely accommodating and helped with any and all questions we had during our stay. It is clear to see the pride the staff have in not only maintaining the grounds but truly wanting their guests to have a good time. You are doing a great job and your hard work does not go unnoticed! We will certainly be back.
Jun 19, 2024 · Scott McGowanThis should really be a 3.5.I will start off by saying that the most amazing guy helped my husband back in the camper in the pitch black dark at 11:00 at night because we got there so late due to traffic. He was fantastic and we would have never found the spot or been able to get into it otherwise without his help. Most of the campground workers were super nice but there was one very grumpy lady working in the office. But I'll give her a pass as they had a big funeral that weekend so perhaps she was grieving. The campground was super clean and obviously well maintained but the main thing that I didn't like about this campground was that there is absolutely no privacy, shade, or trees in the main areas. We were in a large block of campers that the tallest plant was some decorative grass that was about 2 ft high. Thank God we had the awning for the RV plus another pop-up gazebo otherwise we would have roasted. You are also only 10 ft from your next door neighbor so you're almost sitting at tables side by side.
