Fenske Lake Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with a sense of privacy, Fenske Lake Campground near Ely, Minnesota, offers an appealing rustic retreat. Situated along the Echo Trail, this campground is praised by visitors for its beautiful location and spacious campsites. If you're looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in a more natural camping environment, Fenske Lake Campground might be the perfect destination.
Environment: Beautiful Lakeside Setting with Private, Wooded Sites
Fenske Lake Campground is consistently described as "beautiful," indicating a scenic natural environment. Many campsites appear to offer proximity to Fenske Lake, providing potential for lake views and easy access for water-related activities. One reviewer specifically mentioned a "path down to the lake" from their site. The campsites are noted for being "spacious," offering ample room for campers to spread out. Despite the spaciousness, the presence of trees contributes to a sense of semi-privacy, enhancing the feeling of being immersed in nature. One reviewer highlighted that their campsite (#8) was larger than expected and offered plenty of space, even accommodating a medium-sized camper. This suggests a variety of site sizes to cater to different camping setups. The overall environment is one of natural beauty, likely characterized by the typical Northwoods scenery of Minnesota with its mix of trees and lake landscapes, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting for a camping getaway.
Services and Amenities: Rustic Camping Focused on Nature
Fenske Lake Campground embraces a more rustic camping experience with a focus on the natural environment rather than extensive amenities. As explicitly mentioned in a review, the campground offers "no electric, no showers, no office and no Verizon cellular service." This underscores the intent for campers to disconnect and enjoy a more traditional outdoor experience. However, essential facilities are provided, including "vault toilets" that are noted to be "clean and well maintained." This addresses basic sanitation needs while aligning with the rustic nature of the campground. The water setup is mentioned as a potential minor inconvenience, taking longer to fill water tanks compared to state parks. This suggests that potable water is available, but the delivery system might be less efficient. The absence of an on-site office implies that check-in and other administrative tasks might be handled remotely or be self-service. The lack of Verizon cellular service highlights the campground's remote nature, offering a true escape from digital connectivity. Overall, the services and amenities cater to those seeking a back-to-nature experience with basic necessities provided.
Features and Activities: Lake Access, Spacious Sites, and Disconnection
The key features of Fenske Lake Campground revolve around its natural setting and the opportunities it provides for a peaceful and private camping experience. Direct or easy access to Fenske Lake is a significant draw, likely offering opportunities for swimming, fishing, and potentially non-motorized boating. The "spacious campsites" are a notable feature, allowing campers to enjoy more room and privacy compared to more crowded campgrounds. The natural tree cover further enhances this sense of privacy. For tent campers, one reviewer specifically recommends site #7 as being particularly excellent ("👩🍳💋"). The very lack of modern amenities like electricity and showers can be seen as a feature for those intentionally seeking a "rustic" experience and a break from technology. The limited cellular service reinforces this opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse oneself in the natural surroundings. The mention of larger gravel on some sites might be a consideration for pet owners with sensitive paws, but overall, the natural environment and the spaciousness of the sites appear to be the primary features that attract visitors.

Fenske Lake Campground Reviews
Campsite #8 was a large campsite. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. There isn't much for pictures of the site and the one I had to go by does not do this site justice. There is plenty of space for a medium sized camper up top if needed to as well. It's a very private campsite with vaulted toilets a campsite down the road. There is a path down to the lake as well. The only thing I didn't like is the larger gravel rather than the pea gravel. My pups paws didn't like it.
Jun 10, 2024 · TheresaBEAUTIFUL campground and spacious campsites. The vault toilets were clean and well maintained. No electric, no showers, no office and no Verizon cellular service :) this is a rustic campground. We loved it despite the no’s or possibly because of the no’s? Anyway, we’ve already booked a second trip back!Only complaint is the water set-up. It’s going to take 3x as long to fill up your water tank than at the state parks but this minor inconvenience isn’t enough to dock a star.If you’re tent camping, site 7 is 👩🍳💋
Aug 22, 2024 · A SchusterVery nice campground. Well maintained sites. Beautiful view if you get a lake site. Fenske Lake was a fun lake to kayak too!
Sep 09, 2024 · NosredepFenske Lake Campground was a little slice of heaven. A mere 17 minutes outside of downtown Ely, but it feels like you’re way farther out! The lake is clear and beautiful, the individual sites are rather roomy, equipped with nice cooking griddles and well kept restrooms nearby. Unfortunately we didn’t take our canoe this time around, but it would’ve been the perfect spot to set in. If you’re looking for a remote getaway in the great North Country, look no further.
Jun 02, 2022 · Janae AlyseGreat campground. Most of the sites on the outside of the loop have a parking spot on the road and a short walk down the hill to the the actual sites (tent campers only). Cool beach area with slab rocks. Only 1-2 sites occupied on Saturday night in October (closes Oct 23rd).
