Findley State Park Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking diverse "camping near me" options in Northeast Ohio, Findley State Park Campground, located in Huntington Township, OH 44090, USA, presents a compelling choice. Situated within the scenic Findley State Park, this campground offers a range of campsites and recreational activities, catering to various camping preferences and family needs. Its natural environment, coupled with available amenities, makes it a noteworthy destination for those looking to enjoy the outdoors close to home.
The environment of Findley State Park Campground is characterized by its abundance of "mature trees," which provide ample shade for many campsites, creating a comfortable and pleasant camping experience, especially during warmer months. The presence of these trees also contributes to the overall natural beauty of the campground. Furthermore, the campground offers a "good variety of types of spots, from sunny to shaded," allowing campers to choose a site that best suits their preferences regarding sunlight exposure. This diversity in campsite environments enhances the appeal for different types of campers seeking specific conditions.
Findley State Park Campground provides a range of services and amenities to accommodate different camping styles. Notably, it offers campsites ranging from "primitive to Full hookup." This caters to both tent campers looking for a more traditional experience and RV campers who require connections for electricity, water, and sewer. The availability of full hookup sites is a significant convenience for RV travelers. While specific details about water access at primitive sites are not provided, the mention of full hookups suggests that water is available at least at those sites. The campground also features "bathroom facilities," although one reviewer noted that these "could stand to be updated" but are "functional." This indicates that basic restroom amenities are available for camper use.
A key feature of Findley State Park Campground is the variety of recreational activities available within the park. For families, there is a "playpark" to keep children entertained. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the presence of "small hiking trails" within the park, offering opportunities for leisurely walks and nature exploration. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the "basketball court" and "volleyball net" for some active recreation. Additionally, "kayaks for rental" are available, suggesting access to a body of water within the park, likely Findley Lake, providing opportunities for paddling and enjoying the water.
While the reviews generally highlight positive aspects of the campground, there are a few considerations for potential visitors. One reviewer mentioned encountering "a lot of standing water in parts of the campground" during their visit. It's important to note that this reviewer was not local and did not know if this was a usual occurrence or due to specific weather conditions. Local users might have more insight into the typical drainage conditions of the campground, especially during different seasons. Another factor to be aware of is the potential for some noise, as one reviewer noted "some traffic and train noises," although they also stated that it was "low enough that it didn't bother me." Noise levels can be subjective, so light sleepers might want to consider this when choosing a campsite.
For those relying on cellular communication, the review indicates "Ok cell signal in the campground," which is a practical consideration for many travelers. Additionally, the proximity to a "small town with a grocery a few minutes away" offers convenience for campers needing to resupply on food or other essentials during their stay.
One specific piece of feedback from a Buckeye Trail hiker mentioned that there was "no shower block" despite a $36/night fee, which they found unusual. This is a significant piece of information for tent campers or those without onboard showers in their RVs. The lack of showers might influence the decision for some campers, especially those planning longer stays or engaging in strenuous activities. The reviewer mentioned resorting to rinsing off in the lake, which might not be a suitable or desirable option for all visitors.
While no specific promotional information was included in the reviews, the inherent appeal of Findley State Park Campground lies in its diverse range of campsites, the shade provided by mature trees, and the variety of recreational activities available, including hiking, a playpark, sports courts, and kayak rentals. For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers a mix of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, Findley State Park Campground presents a solid option. The availability of both primitive and full hookup sites caters to a broad spectrum of camping needs.
Prospective campers should be aware of the potential for standing water in certain areas, possible traffic and train noise, and the reported lack of a shower block. These factors might influence the choice of campsite and the overall preparedness for the trip. It would be advisable for local users to consider the time of year and recent weather conditions when planning their visit to mitigate potential issues with standing water. If showers are a necessity, campers might need to consider alternative options outside the campground or adjust their expectations.
In conclusion, Findley State Park Campground offers a diverse camping experience for local residents seeking "camping near me." Its mature trees provide ample shade, and the variety of campsite types, from primitive to full hookup, caters to different needs. The availability of recreational activities such as hiking, a playpark, sports courts, and kayak rentals ensures that there are plenty of ways to stay entertained. While the bathroom facilities might be basic and the lack of showers is a consideration, along with potential noise and localized standing water, the overall offering of Findley State Park Campground makes it a worthwhile option for a family-friendly outdoor getaway in the Huntington Township area.

Mar 22, 2025 · James JenkinsGood location to tent for the night for those on the Buckeye Trail. No shower block which seemed unusual for a $36/night fee so just went to the lake to rinse myself off. There's a playpark and small hiking trails, a basketball court, volleyball net, and kayaks for rental - so plenty to keep the family entertained.
Apr 28, 2024 · Aimer From OrkneyThe staff is nice and there is a clean, big camp store with snacks on offer. You'll find excellent primitive camping, but most sites are gravel instead of concrete. Water and white water disposal is spaced out further than most other state parks. There are centralized shower houses and the rest are well lit and maintained pit toilets.
Jun 23, 2024 · Eva SinesGreat park and campground. Very clean and well cared for. Fishing, canoeing, and an unmanned beach. Nature resource center with camping store and ice cream. Many trails with hiking, mountain biking, and frisbee golf.
