Fir Top Campground Introduce
Welcome to Fir Top Campground, a destination for those seeking a genuinely remote and picturesque camping experience near Sierraville, CA. Located in the serene landscapes surrounding Sierraville, CA 96126, USA, Fir Top Campground offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature's tranquility.
As a featured listing on "Camping Near Me," Fir Top Campground is positioned for individuals and families looking for accessible and engaging outdoor adventures. This platform category aims to connect users with suitable camping locations, and Fir Top Campground, while rustic, provides a distinctive offering for those who appreciate natural beauty and a less commercialized camping environment. It's a place where you can truly disconnect and enjoy the pristine outdoors, aligning perfectly with the ethos of finding authentic camping experiences near you.
The environment at Fir Top Campground is characterized by its beauty and remote setting. Visitors consistently describe the area as pretty and remote, providing a significant sense of escape and solitude. The campground offers breathtaking views, making it an excellent spot for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking to unwind amidst stunning scenery. The lake associated with the campground is lauded for its clarity and suitability for swimming and boating, adding a refreshing element to your stay. However, it's worth noting that the "beach" areas around the lake are described as muddy and rocky, so campers should manage their expectations regarding typical sandy shores. The surrounding area is also rich with very good hiking opportunities, inviting campers to explore the natural trails and discover the diverse flora and fauna of the region.
Accessing Fir Top Campground requires careful consideration, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area or lacking a 4x4 vehicle. A crucial piece of advice from past campers is to avoid using Forest Road 18 as a shortcut, especially if coming from the Sacramento area. While initially paved, this road becomes significantly rough near Bowman Lake, posing a risk of getting stuck for vehicles not equipped for off-road conditions, or for drivers inexperienced with such terrain. Therefore, it is strongly advised against taking this shortcut if you do not have a 4x4 vehicle or prior off-road experience. This information is vital for planning your journey and ensures a smoother, safer arrival at the campground.
Regarding services and features, Fir Top Campground offers a more rustic experience compared to highly developed campgrounds. A key characteristic to be aware of is the absence of a host on-site. This means there is no dedicated personnel available at the campground to assist with immediate needs, provide local information, or manage issues. Furthermore, there are no facilities to purchase essential items such as firewood, ice, or other camping supplies directly at the campground. Campers must come prepared with all necessary provisions for their stay, reinforcing the remote and self-reliant nature of this camping destination. This aspect, while contributing to its remote charm, is a critical piece of information for planning and packing.
Despite its rustic nature, Fir Top Campground does provide essential amenities, specifically well-maintained bathrooms. Reviews indicate that the bathrooms are cleaned daily, which is a significant plus for a remote site. However, the number of facilities is limited, with only one male and one female bathroom available for approximately 10 to 12 campsites. This ratio suggests that during peak times, campers might experience some waiting, or need to plan their use accordingly. While the bathrooms are described as "nice bathrooms," the limited number of toilets for the number of campsites is a point that past visitors have noted. Another important feature for tent campers is the condition of the tent pads. Reviewers have highlighted that the tent pads are not level, which could pose a challenge for setting up tents comfortably. Campers should be prepared for uneven ground and consider bringing appropriate leveling equipment or choosing their tent spot carefully.
In summary, Fir Top Campground is an excellent choice for those seeking a genuine, remote, and beautiful camping experience. Its strong points include the stunning views, opportunities for excellent hiking, and a clear lake suitable for swimming and boating. The daily maintained bathrooms are a welcome amenity, despite their limited number. However, prospective campers should be fully aware of the lack of a host, the inability to purchase supplies on-site, the potential challenges with accessing the campground via certain routes without a 4x4, and the uneven tent pads. For individuals and groups who are well-prepared and appreciate a more independent and serene outdoor adventure, Fir Top Campground, found through "Camping Near Me," promises a memorable and rejuvenating escape into the wilderness of Sierraville. It offers an experience where the beauty of nature takes center stage, and the quiet remoteness allows for true relaxation and exploration.

Fir Top Campground Reviews
Do not take Forest Rd 18 as a short cut (if you are coming from Sacramento area). It is paved at first but it gets rough near bowman lake. I almost got stuck there. If you don’t have a 4x4 vehicle and/or never been offroad, do not take this shortcut.Bathroom is maintained daily. There is only 1 male and 1 female bathroom for around 10 campsites. There are very good hikes there and the view is amazing.
Jul 23, 2019 · Ocho BlueCampground was pretty, area was pretty and remote. But be warned that there is no host, no place to buy firewood or ice or whatever. The lake was clear and nice to swim / boat in, but the "beach" areas are muddy and rocky. We had a good time, but it was not exactly what was promised. There are nice bathrooms, but only 2 toilets for 12 campsites. The tent pads are not level.
Aug 17, 2018 · Bruce WillemsThis area is undeniably beautiful. The lightly tred lake, the campgrounds were clean and, though booked to full, only a quarter occupied. But the insects made it nearly impossible to enjoy. I've never seen so many flesh eating bugs, including something called a yellow fly that swarmed every area, even the beaches. Not only are these flies biters but they're resistant to everything but Det. Be ready to soak yourself, and your animals, in chems to enjoy the outdoors. We chose to bag it 😕
