My husband and I went here last year. So worth the drive. We did drive through some areas that were a fire had come through, but past that, wow amazing views. And it was very very very quiet. I, Liz met the owner, Mike I think?, a real nice guy told me the place was just opened up. My husband and I got the pick of spots as there was only 1 other couple there. There was wood already chopped and set. The bathrooms were clean. Fly Fishing was wonderful, We plan on visiting again. - Elizabeth Murach

Fly Flat Campground Introduce

Fly Flat Campground, nestled near Avery, Idaho, at an address listed simply as Avery, ID 83802, USA, offers a unique camping experience characterized by its tranquility and natural setting. For individuals searching for "camping near me" in the Avery region, Fly Flat Campground presents an option for those seeking a more secluded and private camping experience. While the reviews highlight its quiet atmosphere and natural beauty, they also provide important details about the campground's environment, services, and features that potential visitors should consider. The emphasis on a peaceful retreat and fly fishing opportunities aligns with the interests of many seeking camping experiences in the Idaho wilderness.

The environment surrounding Fly Flat Campground is described as both scenic and recovering. One reviewer noted "amazing views" after passing through areas affected by a previous fire, indicating a landscape that is both resilient and visually striking. A key characteristic emphasized in the reviews is the exceptional quietness of the campground, with one visitor describing it as "very very very quiet." This makes it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape from the noise of everyday life. The campground boasts a "large" layout with "lots of trees and shrubs," providing ample shade and a sense of privacy for each of the 14 campsites. This natural landscaping contributes to a more intimate and secluded camping experience, where visitors can feel immersed in the surrounding forest. However, one notable aspect of the environment is the lack of river views directly from the campsites. While the St. Joe River is accessible (as indicated by the fly fishing mention), the campground itself is situated in a way that does not offer these scenic vistas.

In terms of services, Fly Flat Campground provides essential amenities for a comfortable camping trip. One reviewer mentioned "several bathrooms" which were reported as "clean," a crucial aspect for any campground. The availability of "potable water" is another important service ensuring campers have access to safe drinking water. For those planning to cook or have campfires, the provision of "wood already chopped and set" at the campsites, as mentioned by one visitor, is a significant convenience. This eliminates the need for campers to bring their own firewood or spend time chopping it. While the reviews do not detail specific services like electricity hookups at individual sites, the focus seems to be on a more rustic and nature-oriented camping experience. The mention of the owner, Mike (possibly), being a "real nice guy" suggests a personal and potentially helpful management presence, even though the campground was described as newly opened at the time of one review.

The features of Fly Flat Campground cater to those seeking a quiet and nature-focused camping experience. The "large campground with 14 sites" suggests a relatively small and intimate setting, reducing potential overcrowding and contributing to the peaceful atmosphere. The abundance of "trees and shrubs" not only provides shade and privacy but also enhances the natural feel of the campsites. A significant feature is the opportunity for "fly fishing," indicating the campground's proximity to a suitable fishing location, likely the St. Joe River. While direct river views from the campsites are absent, the accessibility of the river for fishing is a major draw for anglers. However, one reviewer noted that getting to the river could be "difficult" due to "narrow and uneven" paths. This is an important consideration for visitors with mobility issues or those planning to carry fishing gear or other equipment to the river. Despite this challenge, the availability of fly fishing is a key feature for many outdoor enthusiasts. The combination of a quiet, shady, and private environment with access to fly fishing makes Fly Flat Campground a unique option for "camping near me" in the Avery area, particularly for those prioritizing tranquility and natural surroundings over riverfront views and easy river access.

Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional information for Fly Flat Campground. As one reviewer mentioned it was "just opened up" during their visit (the timing of which is not specified but was "last year" relative to their review), it's possible that the campground is still relatively new or under new management. To inquire about current rates, availability, reservation policies, or any special offers, interested individuals would need to contact the campground directly. The phone number is not provided in the given information, so potential visitors would need to seek out contact details through online search engines or camping directories. Given the positive feedback regarding the quiet atmosphere and natural setting, it is advisable to book in advance, especially during peak camping seasons, to secure a campsite at this smaller campground.

In conclusion, Fly Flat Campground near Avery, Idaho, offers a secluded and tranquil camping experience characterized by its large, shady, and private campsites. The campground is praised for its exceptional quietness and the availability of fly fishing opportunities on the nearby St. Joe River. While the campsites do not offer river views and access to the river may be challenging due to narrow and uneven paths, the overall environment is described as beautiful and worth the drive. Essential services such as clean bathrooms and potable water are provided, and the thoughtful touch of pre-chopped firewood adds to the convenience. For those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature, with a focus on fly fishing and a desire for privacy, Fly Flat Campground is a compelling option for "camping near me" in the Avery area. Potential visitors should seek out contact information to inquire about reservations and any specific details regarding the campground's amenities and policies.
