Forest Ridge Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Ellsworth, Maine area, Forest Ridge Campground, located at 40 Flockamoosen Way, Ellsworth, ME 04605, presents itself as a potentially appealing option, particularly for those prioritizing a quiet environment and convenient access to surrounding attractions like Bar Harbor. Based on customer reviews, the campground offers certain desirable features, but also has aspects that prospective campers should be aware of, particularly regarding its management style and rules.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Forest Ridge Campground is its peaceful and quiet atmosphere. Multiple reviewers specifically mention the tranquility of the campground throughout the day and night, making it an attractive option for those seeking a restful getaway. This quiet environment can be a significant advantage for campers who value a serene setting and wish to avoid the noise often associated with more bustling campgrounds. One reviewer who stayed for a week noted being "very pleased" with the quiet and friendly atmosphere.
The campground also appears to cater well to RV travelers. One reviewer with a 45' coach specifically highlighted the level and spacious sites with full hookups, indicating that the infrastructure is well-suited for larger recreational vehicles. The availability of full hookups (water, electricity, and sewer) is a significant convenience for RVers, allowing for a more comfortable and self-sufficient camping experience. The same reviewer also commended the owners for their knowledge of the surrounding areas, providing valuable advice on the best times to tour local attractions. The campground's location is indeed advantageous, situated in the midst of historic and beautiful country and just a short drive from the popular destination of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
However, alongside these positive comments, a recurring theme in the reviews centers on the strict nature of the campground rules and a perceived lack of warmth or friendliness from the owners and on-site staff. One reviewer explicitly advised potential guests to "read the rules before you book this place," suggesting that adherence to these rules is strictly expected. While this can contribute to the campground's cleanliness and quiet atmosphere, it also seems to create an environment where guests may feel overly scrutinized.
This sentiment is echoed by another reviewer who stayed for a week in August. While they acknowledged the cleanliness and quietness of the campground and felt safe walking their dogs, they also described a feeling of being constantly watched for rule infractions. They likened the experience to staying with "super strict parents" where guests are expected to be seen but not heard, even noting this feeling as a 49-year-old adult. This suggests a management style that prioritizes order and adherence to rules, potentially at the expense of a more relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for some guests. The reviewer also mentioned feeling uncomfortable sitting outside by their fire pit for the duration of their stay due to this feeling of being constantly observed.
Interestingly, the same reviewer noted that the transient sites were mostly empty during their mid-summer stay, with a high turnover of campers staying for just one night, even on typically busy weekend nights. This observation is somewhat unusual for a popular tourist area during peak season and might suggest that the campground's atmosphere or rules could be a factor in shorter stays.
Despite the emphasis on rules and the perceived lack of overt friendliness from the owners and staff, the campground is acknowledged for its cleanliness and the feeling of safety it provides, particularly for those walking their dogs. The strict 5-mile-per-hour speed limit within the campground was also noted for its effectiveness in keeping dust down, although one reviewer humorously mentioned their truck struggling at such a low speed.
In summary, Forest Ridge Campground offers a clean and very quiet environment with level sites and full hookups, making it particularly suitable for RV travelers seeking a peaceful basecamp near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The owners are reported to be knowledgeable about the local area and can offer helpful advice on sightseeing. However, potential guests should be prepared for a strict adherence to campground rules and a management style that some reviewers have perceived as less than warm or overly watchful. If a quiet and orderly environment is your top priority and you are comfortable with strict rules, Forest Ridge Campground might be a good fit. However, if you value a more relaxed and overtly friendly atmosphere, you may want to consider these aspects carefully.
No specific promotional information was provided in the available reviews. Local users interested in booking a stay at Forest Ridge Campground are encouraged to contact them directly at (207) 664-7070 or +1 207-664-7070 to inquire about current rates, availability, specific rules, and any potential discounts or special offers. Asking directly about the management's approach and the enforcement of rules might also provide further clarity for prospective campers.
In conclusion, Forest Ridge Campground in Ellsworth, Maine, offers a dichotomy of positive attributes, such as its quiet setting, well-equipped RV sites, and convenient location, alongside potential drawbacks related to strict rules and a perceived lack of warmth from management. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these factors based on their individual preferences and priorities to determine if this campground aligns with their ideal camping experience.

Forest Ridge Campground Reviews
We stayed one week and were very pleased with the campground and owners. Very quiet and friendly. The site was level and had full hookups for 45' coach. Lots of room. The owners were knowledgeable about all of the surrounding areas and gave us the best advice on when the best times to tour the area. Located in the middle of some historic and beautiful country just a short drive to Bar Harbor.
Jul 08, 2024 · Linda RoundsRead the rules before you book this place and it will explain it all. The campground is clean and very quiet all hours of the day. The transient sights were mostly empty during our stay this past August. We stayed a week and saw a lot of campers coming in for just one night, even on Friday and Saturday wich is odd for mid summer in such a popular area. The owners were there but don't expect to be smiled at or spoken to. The staff that live on sight are similar. As others have said in previous reviews you feel like your watch at all times for rule breaking. It's like staying with super strict parents that want you to be seen but not heard and I'm 49 yrs old. We weren't here to party, we aren't those kind of people. We didn't feel comfortable sitting outside by our fire pit the hole time we were there. On the plus side it was clean, quiet and I felt safe walking around withy dogs. The 5 mile and hour rule did keep the dust down but my truck wanted to die at this speed
Aug 06, 2023 · Heather HoweWe spent two nights at Forest Ridge. The campground is clean, small, and the people are exceptionally nice. They have a wealth of information of things to do and places to eat. They know the best places to go in Acadia NP, and were very helpful. The sites are level, clean and the hookups are in good working order. Try the blueberry pie at Union River Lobster Restaurant. It's delicious!! We enjoyed our stay very much.
Jul 17, 2022 · Michele BlincoeNot really happy with service at this campground. Mistake on our part we got there to early. Person at desk would not accommodate us when the site that we booked was empty. Decided to go to another campground who who accommodate us. So worth having to pay for another site. Campground was nicer and staff was much nicer and better service. Bar Harbor was much more accommodating and far more reasonable in price. Located closer to town and Acadia.Regardless of what check in time. I get the rules. Every other place I’ve been if space is available will accommodate.
Jul 19, 2023 · Vicki EspinozaExcellent location for Acadia national Park, big level sites, wide roads to get rigs in, super friendly owners, nice and quiet. Very clean bathrooms and laundry room. Reserve early cause the prices go up as they get full. I would stay again. No tents camping excellent WiFi and cell signal
