Patten Pond Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Ellsworth, Maine area, Patten Pond Campground, situated at 1470 Bucksport Rd, Ellsworth, ME 04605, offers a location with appealing features, including waterfront access and proximity to Acadia National Park. However, a review of recent customer experiences reveals a mix of positive and negative feedback that potential campers should carefully consider.
One of the frequently mentioned advantages of Patten Pond Campground is its environment. Located directly on Patten Pond, the campground offers clear water and beautiful views, providing a picturesque backdrop for a camping getaway. For those who enjoy water activities or simply appreciate a scenic waterfront setting, this could be a significant draw. Additionally, the campground's location provides convenient access to the nearby town of Ellsworth, known for its excellent lobster, and is approximately 30 miles from the renowned Acadia National Park, making it a potentially ideal basecamp for exploring the park's natural beauty.
Another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the friendly service encountered by some guests. One reviewer specifically mentioned the friendliness of the staff when adding propane, suggesting a helpful and welcoming atmosphere from at least some members of the team. Furthermore, this reviewer praised the overall cleanliness and beauty of the park, and was particularly pleased with their assigned site (#305), noting its shade, slight privacy, and overall suitability for their extended stay of over a week in mid-July.
However, not all experiences at Patten Pond Campground have been positive. One concerning review details significant issues encountered during their stay. Initially, they reported being "squeezed" into a campsite that was barely large enough for their setup, further complicated by a neighbor using their assigned space for parking. While they were eventually moved to a different site upon request, this move was followed by a persistent and unpleasant sewage odor that permeated many areas of the campground, particularly near the entrance. The stench was reportedly so severe that it prevented them from enjoying their fire pit and made sitting outside their camper unbearable. This is a serious environmental concern that would undoubtedly detract from the overall camping experience.
The same negative review also raised concerns about pet policies and the availability of designated dog walking areas. While the bathrooms and showers were noted to be clean (despite the pervasive sewage smell), an incident involving a loose dog starting a scuffle with their leashed dog was reported. The reviewer expressed disappointment that the owners of the off-leash dog seemed unconcerned. Additionally, the lack of a designated dog walking trail or area beyond the campground itself was mentioned as a drawback for pet owners.
The stark contrast between the two reviews highlights a potential inconsistency in the camping experience at Patten Pond Campground. While some guests, like the one in site #305, enjoyed a clean, beautiful, and well-located site with friendly service, others encountered significant problems such as cramped initial site assignments, persistent sewage odors affecting the entire stay, and issues with loose pets and the lack of dedicated dog walking areas.
It is important for potential local users searching for "camping near me" to weigh these contrasting experiences carefully. The positive aspects of Patten Pond Campground, such as its waterfront location on Patten Pond, proximity to Ellsworth and Acadia National Park, and reports of friendly service and some clean facilities, are certainly appealing. However, the serious concerns raised about sewage odors affecting multiple areas of the campground, potential issues with site sizes and assignments, and the reported lack of enforcement regarding leash policies and dedicated dog walking areas cannot be ignored.
No specific promotional information was provided in the available details. Therefore, local users interested in Patten Pond Campground should contact them directly at (207) 667-7600 or +1 207-667-7600 to inquire about current rates, availability, site options, and any ongoing promotions. It would also be prudent to inquire specifically about the sewage odor issue mentioned in one of the reviews and what measures have been taken to address it. Similarly, asking about their pet policies and the availability of designated dog walking areas would be beneficial for pet owners.
In conclusion, Patten Pond Campground offers a potentially attractive location for those seeking "camping near me" in Ellsworth, Maine, due to its waterfront access and proximity to Acadia National Park. While some visitors have reported positive experiences with clean facilities, friendly service, and desirable campsites, significant concerns have also been raised regarding persistent sewage odors, potentially cramped initial site assignments, and issues with off-leash dogs and the lack of designated pet areas. Local users should carefully consider these contrasting reports and contact the campground directly to gather more information before making a decision.

Patten Pond Campground Reviews
Initially we were squeezed into a site we could hardly fit into. The neighbor was using our spot as a car parking spot… few days later requested to move because we were clearly not fitting in the spot they assigned us. We moved and spent the next week smelling sewage. The smell was really bad near the entrance and was in many areas of the campground. We couldn’t even use the fire pit due to the stench. Bathrooms were clean (aside from poo smell) showers also were clean. Location is good right on the water with quick drive to Acadia. Loose dog started a small scuffle with our (on leash) dog. Dog owners didn’t seem concerned about their off leash dogs… no where to walk dogs other than through the campground. Would be nice to have a small trail or other walking area. The smell throughout our stay just made everything horrible. Couldn’t enjoy sitting outside our camper. Won’t be returning for this reason.
Oct 03, 2024 · Haley SchwemminWe like Patten Pond Campground. We stayed here for more than a week in mid of July. We were assigned site #305, under the tree, and a little privacy, great site. The pattern pond has clear water, and beautiful view. The whole park is clean, beautiful. We added propane here. They are very friendly. The closet town Ellsworth has the great lobster! Acadia national park is about 30 miles away.
Jul 27, 2024 · john zhangPatten Pond was an awesome getaway and a great place to use as a base camp for our adventure to Acadia. We took a double kayak rental to the island in the middle of the lake for 20 dollars. We saw a loon trying to eat a fish way too big for it and a raptor of some kind on the island. Campsite was great and isolated from the RVs and the quiet hours were awesome. The staff in the front office were very helpful and patient. Overall great experience.
Aug 02, 2024 · Nathan PattersonStayed in the "Yellow Cabin" and can't say enough wonderful things about it! It was super clean and well appointed! The kitchen included anything we would need to make a great meal, including a full size refrigerator, stove and oven, as well as a microwave and a single serve coffee maker that uses K-cups!There is plenty of space in this little park model, especially considering the Florida room that is attached, which is a great space to sit and enjoy your morning coffee! Need to get some work done? No problem! There is a built in desk space and wifi available! For longer stays, there is even a washer and dryer in the cabin! You'll want to bring bed linens/sleeping bags and towels.Enough about the cabin, though! The campground itself is so beautiful and well maintained! You'll find relaxation as soon as you drive onto the property. It is just such a calming environment!I'm looking forward to my next stay!
Aug 18, 2024 · holly p6/19/24 - Great staff. Loved the welcome trinkets. Store is large with lots of souvenir merchandise. Well maintained park. Renting a canoe or kayak is a must! The lake is beautiful. The bathroom and showers are clean and the laundry machines use an app or credit card. Will definitely come back to visit.
