Balsam Cove Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Orland, Maine area, Balsam Cove Campground, located at 286 Back Ridge Rd, Orland, ME 04472, presents a camping option that warrants careful consideration based on recent customer feedback available online. While the campground markets itself as a family-friendly place with rules in place, a review of recent experiences paints a concerning picture regarding safety, rule enforcement, and the overall environment.
One particularly alarming account details an incident where a camper, while adhering to leash rules and cleaning up after their pet, was reportedly attacked by two different unleashed dogs belonging to other campers. This raises significant concerns about the enforcement of the campground's stated leash policy and the potential safety risks posed by loose animals. The reviewer further alleges that upon alerting the manager to the issue, the manager subsequently threatened eviction, seemingly discouraging further complaints. This reported interaction with management is troubling and suggests a potentially dismissive approach to addressing safety concerns raised by guests.
Adding to the negative experiences, the same reviewer reported disruptive behavior at nearby campsites, including drinking and swearing that continued late into the night. This directly contradicts the expectation of a family-friendly environment and raises questions about the campground's ability or willingness to enforce quiet hours and maintain a respectful atmosphere for all guests. Feeling unsafe, the reviewer reportedly chose to remain confined to their RV, significantly detracting from the intended camping experience. The reviewer also described the campground as a seasonal regular spot that felt "packed in like sardines" with a "junky look," suggesting potential overcrowding and a lack of aesthetic appeal in some areas.
Another recent review paints an equally unfavorable picture, describing the overall experience as "absolutely, jaw droppingly, horrible." While this reviewer did note that the owner was a "very nice woman," the positive sentiment seemingly ended there. Within moments of arrival, this guest reported being rudely reprimanded for driving slightly over the posted speed limit within the campground, with this happening on multiple occasions. This suggests a potentially unwelcoming or overly strict initial interaction with campground staff.
Further concerns were raised regarding the campground's environment and facilities. The presence of "Trump flags everywhere" was noted as a significant detractor, with the reviewer questioning the appropriateness of allowing such overt political displays within a campground intended for leisure and relaxation. This highlights a potential issue with maintaining a neutral and inclusive environment for all guests, regardless of their political affiliations.
Cleanliness and maintenance also appear to be significant issues, according to this review. The showers were reportedly unclean, containing cigarette butts and bugs, and the wooden platforms outside the showers were described as rotted and unsafe. Overflowing trash bins further suggest potential issues with waste management and overall hygiene within the campground. Tent sites were described as consisting of sharp gravel on a slope, indicating a lack of comfort and potentially challenging conditions for tent campers.
The most concerning aspect of this second review is the report of waking up to other campers vomiting, suggesting potential issues with excessive alcohol consumption or other disruptive behaviors not being adequately addressed by campground management. This reinforces the earlier report of late-night disturbances and raises further questions about the overall atmosphere and supervision within Balsam Cove Campground.
Both of these recent reviews paint a starkly negative picture of Balsam Cove Campground, highlighting significant concerns related to safety due to loose dogs, inadequate enforcement of rules (including leash policies and quiet hours), potential issues with management responsiveness, cleanliness of facilities, and the overall environment. While one reviewer did receive a partial refund for leaving early, this does not negate the negative experiences encountered during their stay.
Given the serious nature of the complaints detailed in these recent reviews, including allegations of safety threats from unleashed animals and intimidating behavior from management, local users searching for "camping near me" are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider these experiences carefully before making a reservation at Balsam Cove Campground. The reported lack of rule enforcement, cleanliness issues, and disruptive behavior could significantly impact the safety and enjoyment of any camping trip.
As no positive aspects or counterbalancing reviews were provided in the available information, and no promotional details were included, it is impossible to offer a more balanced perspective or any potential benefits of staying at Balsam Cove Campground. The overwhelming sentiment from these recent accounts is one of dissatisfaction and concern.
Prospective campers may wish to contact Balsam Cove Campground directly at (207) 469-7771 or +1 207-469-7771 to inquire about the issues raised in these reviews and understand what measures, if any, have been taken to address these concerns. However, based solely on the available recent customer feedback, Balsam Cove Campground appears to present a potentially negative and unsafe camping experience for local users.
In conclusion, while Balsam Cove Campground is listed as a "camping near me" option in Orland, Maine, recent customer reviews raise significant red flags regarding safety, rule enforcement, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. Potential campers should carefully weigh these serious concerns before considering a stay at this campground.

Balsam Cove Campground Reviews
Worst camp experience to date, while leash walking, poop scooping and following the rules, I was set upon by two different dogs in the road belonging to campers with loose pets. The campsite makes a big deal about how it’s a family place where they follow the rules. I had to alert the manager to enforce the leash policy on the other Campers and then later he came to threaten to evict me, I suppose to discourage me from complaining further. Drinking and swearing went on well into the night at nearby campsites, well, I stayed confined to my RV for my own safety. This is a seasonal regular place, packed in like sardines with a junky look. The only good thing I can say about it is that I checked out early three days out of nine and got half my money back.
Aug 05, 2024 · DB ZenAbsolutely, jaw droppingly, horrible experience. Before I say anything else, the owner was a very nice women and I would've never guessed what was beyond the gate.Within 60 seconds of entering, I was rudely yelled at for going (6) miles an hour in a 5 mph zone. This happened again shortly after. Trump flags everywhere, what sort of campground would allow its guests to fly horrible political banners. Cigarette butts and bugs in the showers, rotted wood to step out onto. Overflowing trash bins, waking up to campers vomiting, sharp gravel tent sites on a slope. 0/5 a horrible mistake but an amusing story nonetheless.
Aug 13, 2024 · Theo SmithWe stayed at Balsam Cove for 3 months this Summer. We thoroughly enjoyed the campground while we were there. We had site 90, and I personally believe it's the best site there. Thanks to the trees there's plenty of privacy, and the park was quiet during the week. The events they had were a lot of fun, and the kids that were there truly enjoy the campground as well.
Oct 09, 2023 · Mike YoungWe camped in a tent at one of the sites! They keep the bath house and bathroom unit very clean, it’s an awesome space to use. It’s quiet and full of families and kids! We stayed there to go to Acadia, but it was a good central location, close to a grocery store and other food places. The staff was super friendly and treated us with respect!
Aug 15, 2023 · Emily StetkiewiczThis is a really nice campground that is well kept and has a very friendly staff and clientele. We’ve enjoyed visiting family here several times. The food at the outdoor cafe is really good and affordable. We look forward to out next visit!
