Foster Red Mountain Campground Introduce
Nestled conveniently near Ventura, California, Foster Red Mountain Campground offers an accessible camping destination, particularly appealing to those traveling from the Los Angeles area due to its straightforward route with minimal mountain roads. As a featured option within the "Camping Near Me" platform category, this campground provides a blend of natural surroundings and practical amenities for a comfortable outdoor experience. For local users in Singapore who might be visiting Southern California and seeking an easily reachable campground with recreational opportunities, Foster Red Mountain Campground presents a viable option to consider.
The Natural Environment: River Proximity and Playground Fun
Foster Red Mountain Campground is situated in a location that provides relatively easy access to a nearby river, which has historically been a significant recreational draw for campers, especially families with children. Reviews mention a recreation area on the other side of the river where activities like playing in the water were enjoyed. However, it's important to note that as of July 2023, this recreation area was under construction and closed. It is advisable to check the current status of this area before planning activities centered around river access. Another positive environmental aspect highlighted in the reviews is the presence of swings within the campground, providing a dedicated play area for children.
While one review mentions avoiding campsites near the road due to traffic noise, this suggests that other areas within the campground might offer a more peaceful setting. The overall environment appears to be family-friendly, with the river (when accessible) and the playground catering to younger campers.
Services and Facilities: A Helpful Camphost and Noteworthy Restroom Issue
Recent user reviews provide valuable insights into the services and facilities available at Foster Red Mountain Campground. A significant positive aspect is the presence and helpfulness of the camphost, Dane. According to a recent review, Dane is described as "literally the best ever," providing assistance to campers, maintaining the cleanliness of the bathrooms, and being readily available, friendly, and nice. The positive impact of a dedicated and helpful camphost can greatly enhance the overall camping experience.
However, a notable issue raised in a review concerns the condition of the men's restroom. As of July 2023, the men's restroom was reported as broken, and a cleaning inspection form indicated that it had been out of order since approximately May of the same year. This is a significant factor to consider when planning your stay, as it may impact the convenience and comfort of the camping experience. It is advisable to inquire about the current status of the restroom facilities before making a reservation.
The presence of swings indicates a playground area suitable for children. The mention of a "little hike" attached to the campground suggests the availability of at least one on-site trail for a brief nature walk. However, further details about the length and difficulty of this trail are not provided.
Key Features and Activities: Accessibility, River Recreation (Potentially Limited), and Playground
Foster Red Mountain Campground's key features, based on user feedback, include its easy accessibility from the Los Angeles area, making it a convenient getaway without challenging mountain driving. The proximity to a river has historically been a major draw for recreation, although recent construction in the adjacent recreation area may currently limit this access. The on-site playground with swings is a significant feature for families with young children.
Ease of Access: The campground's location is particularly advantageous for those traveling from Los Angeles seeking a quick and easy escape into nature without navigating winding mountain roads.
River Recreation (Subject to Construction): Historically, the nearby river has offered opportunities for water play. However, potential campers should be aware of the construction reported in July 2023 and verify the current status of the recreation area.
Helpful Camphost: The presence of a highly regarded camphost like Dane can significantly improve the camping experience through assistance, cleanliness, and general support.
Playground: The inclusion of swings provides a dedicated and safe area for children to play within the campground.
Hiking Trail (On-Site): The mention of a small attached hiking trail offers a convenient option for a short nature walk without needing to drive to a separate location.
Consideration for Campsite Selection: Campers should be mindful of the potential for road noise and consider requesting sites further away from the road if a quieter experience is desired.
Nearby Attractions: Exploring Ventura and the Coast
While the reviews focus primarily on the campground itself, its location near Ventura provides access to a range of other attractions and amenities:
Ventura Beaches: Located a short drive from the campground, Ventura offers beautiful beaches, opportunities for surfing, and scenic coastal views.
Channel Islands National Park: Ventura is a gateway to the Channel Islands National Park, offering opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, and kayaking in a unique island environment.
Downtown Ventura: The city's downtown area features historic architecture, shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
Lake Casitas: Situated inland from Ventura, Lake Casitas offers boating, fishing, and picnic areas (swimming in the lake is prohibited).
Promotional Information and Tips for Local Users (from Singapore perspective):
For local users from Singapore visiting the Ventura area and searching within the "Camping Near Me" category, Foster Red Mountain Campground offers an easily accessible option, particularly if you are traveling from the Los Angeles region. While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided reviews, the positive feedback regarding the helpful camphost and the playground for children are noteworthy. However, it is crucial to be aware of the reported issue with the men's restroom and the potential limitations on river access due to ongoing construction. Before booking, it is recommended to check recent reviews or contact the campground management for updates on these conditions.
Tips for Planning Your Stay:
- Inquire About Restroom Facilities: Before making a reservation, confirm the current status of the men's restroom and the availability of other restroom options.
- Check River Access: If river recreation is a priority, verify whether the construction in the adjacent recreation area has been completed and if the river is currently accessible for activities.
- Campsite Selection: If noise is a concern, request a campsite located further away from Casitas Vista Road.
- Bring Playground Essentials: If traveling with children, consider bringing any additional outdoor toys or games to complement the swings.
- Pack for Potential Hiking: If you plan to use the on-site trail, wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
- Utilize the Camphost: Don't hesitate to reach out to the camphost, Dane, for assistance or information during your stay.
- Explore Ventura: Take advantage of the campground's proximity to Ventura to explore the city's beaches and other attractions.
Foster Red Mountain Campground, as highlighted within the "Camping Near Me" category, provides a conveniently located and family-friendly camping option near Ventura. Its easy access from Los Angeles, coupled with amenities like a playground and a helpful camphost, makes it an attractive choice. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issue with the men's restroom and the potential limitations on river access due to construction and are advised to seek updated information before their visit. With careful planning and awareness of the current conditions, Foster Red Mountain Campground can still offer a pleasant and accessible outdoor getaway.

Foster Red Mountain Campground Reviews
We used to camp here with a lot of kids because it is easily accessible from LA and there are almost no mountain roads. There is a recreation area nearby where we could play in the river, but when we went on July 14th 2023, the recreation area on the other side of the river was under construction and closed, so we could not play in the river. Also, the men's restroom is broken, and from the cleaning inspection form, it appears that it has been broken since about May.Sites on the side near the road should definitely be avoided because of the noise of cars.
Aug 01, 2023 · Syapa KWe had a great time this past weekend at Foster Red Mountain campground. Dane was the camphost and is literally the best ever! He helped us so much, kept the bathrooms clean, and was always available if needed, also very nice and friendly. The kids loved to play on the swings. We did a little hike to the one attached to the campground. And we went across the street to enjoy the river.
Jul 14, 2021 · Evette MNot for larger rigs. 32’ 5th Wheel will not fit anywhere, crowded trees and low hanging branches everywhere. And lots of road noise.
Mar 07, 2025 · Joe SpanaIt is nice quite and peaceful place to get away. I stayed there for a week, and enjoy every minute of it. Just me and my two little doggies.
Jul 11, 2020 · STEPHEN PRINCERoad noise is significant. Sites are small. Sites 4, 9 and 14 have water. It wasn’t busy. The bathroom was clean and had soap and paper towels.
