Situated along the majestic Mississippi River, this campground offers a dynamic environment with a plethora of things to do, from water-based adventures to exploring nearby towns. Customer reviews highlight the campground's appeal, especially for seasonal campers, the variety of activities available, the stunning natural scenery, and the positive impact of the new ownership. Combining these testimonials with the inherent attractions of the Mississippi River region allows for a detailed introduction to Freedom Island Campground and Marina.
The Enchanting Environment: Riverside Beauty and Water Wonderland
Freedom Island Campground and Marina's prime location on the Mississippi River is its most significant environmental feature. The Mississippi River is a vital waterway teeming with life, offering ever-changing scenery with its flowing waters, diverse wildlife, and the passage of various types of boats, including barges. Campers can enjoy the sights and sounds of this iconic American river right from the campground. The presence of a marina suggests direct access for boating enthusiasts, making it easy to launch and dock various watercraft.
One reviewer specifically mentions the "breathtaking sunsets over Mud Lake." This indicates that the campground either borders or is very close to Mud Lake, a backwater area connected to the Mississippi River. Such backwaters are often rich in wildlife and offer calmer waters ideal for kayaking and observing nature. The sunsets over a tranquil lake setting would indeed be a picturesque experience for campers.
The surrounding area likely offers opportunities for observing a wide array of wildlife that inhabits the Mississippi River ecosystem. This could include various species of birds, fish, and other riverine animals. Nature lovers and birdwatchers would find plenty to keep them engaged. The riverbanks and nearby natural areas might also be conducive to leisurely walks and exploring the local flora.
Beyond the immediate riverside environment, the campground's location near Hager City also provides access to the broader scenic beauty of western Wisconsin and the bordering state of Minnesota. The ability to "bike over the bridge to explore the beautiful city of Red Wing" highlights the proximity to this charming Minnesota town, known for its historic architecture and scenic bluffs along the river. This offers campers a chance to venture out and experience the local culture and landscape beyond the campground itself.

Aug 14, 2024 · Carl LaceyIt camping right on the river across from Red Wing. Manage to fit 43 foot mh in had some low branch but everything ok. Nice bar and food nearby.
Aug 24, 2016 · Gary ObroktaMr. Roger and Ms. Sandy were exceptionally amazing hosts. We were treated with nothing but kindness for our two month stay. They helped us set up, get going with a tank of propane, offered us an extension plug, and even showed us where you can go to catch walleye. The campground is very well kept and has some amazing views, there's eagles everywhere! Thank you both so so much!
