French Creek State Park Campground Loop C Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a diverse and well-equipped "camping near me" destination, French Creek State Park Campground Loop C, located in Douglassville, PA 19518, USA, presents an excellent opportunity to immerse yourselves in the natural beauty of southeastern Pennsylvania. Situated conveniently close to Birdsboro, Reading, Douglasville, and Morgantown, and within an hour's drive from both Philadelphia and Lancaster, this large and well-managed state park offers a wide array of camping options and recreational activities to suit various preferences.
French Creek State Park encompasses four distinct camping loops: A, B, C, and D. Focusing specifically on Loop C, this section of the campground provides a range of campsite types to accommodate different camping setups. For RV campers seeking full amenities, Loop C features approximately 20 Full Hook-Up (FHU) sites, offering the convenience of water, electricity, and sewer connections directly at your campsite. In addition to these FHU sites, Loop C also includes campsites with electric-only hookups and no hookup sites that utilize shared water spigots. This variety ensures that whether you're traveling in a fully self-contained RV, a smaller camper, or prefer traditional tent camping, you'll find a suitable spot within Loop C.
All campsites within Loop C are paved, which is a notable advantage for setting up and maintaining a clean camping area. While one review mentions that the quality of the pavement varies from site to site, the overall presence of paved surfaces contributes to a more comfortable and less dusty environment. The campground also offers a range of site lengths, capable of accommodating various sizes of RVs, and tent camping remains a popular choice throughout the park.
Beyond the individual campsites, French Creek State Park boasts an impressive array of services and features that enhance the overall camping experience. One of the park's major attractions is its proximity to Hopewell Lake, located about a mile from the campground. Here, visitors can enjoy a variety of water-based activities, including canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Spending a day on the tranquil lake offers a refreshing escape and a chance to connect with nature from a different perspective. Please note that you will need to transport your own canoes or kayaks or inquire about any local rental options that might be available outside the park.
During the warmer months, campers can also take advantage of the huge swimming pool located near Hopewell Lake. While there is a small fee of $4 per camper to use the pool, it provides a fantastic opportunity to cool off and enjoy some recreational swimming. Adjacent to the pool, you'll find a small cafe and store, offering convenient access to snacks, drinks, and perhaps some essential items you might need during your visit to the lake and pool area.
For those who enjoy exploring on foot or by bike, French Creek State Park offers miles and miles of hiking trails that wind through the diverse landscapes of the park. These trails provide opportunities for all skill levels, from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes. Biking is also a popular activity within the park; however, it's worth noting, as mentioned in a review, that the return trip from either the lake or the pool back to the campground involves uphill cycling. This is something to consider when planning your biking excursions within the park.
In addition to traditional campsites, French Creek State Park also offers alternative lodging options, including yurts and cabins for rent. While Loop C itself might not contain these options directly, their availability within the broader park provides flexibility for those seeking a slightly different camping experience or perhaps traveling with individuals who prefer a more structured accommodation.
Safety and security are a priority at French Creek State Park, with excellent security measures in place and regular patrols by park staff. This provides peace of mind for campers and ensures a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.
However, it is important to address a concern raised in one of the reviews regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms. The reviewer described the bathrooms as "horrible," noting issues such as overflowing trash, plugged-up showers, and black water on the floors, suggesting a lack of cleaning throughout the year. This is a significant point to consider, and it's advisable to check recent reviews or potentially contact the park directly to inquire about the current condition of the facilities before your visit. While another review from earlier in the year echoed this concern, the more comprehensive review mentioned "older but very clean" bathhouses with free showers. This discrepancy highlights the importance of seeking the most up-to-date information regarding the comfort facilities.
Despite the conflicting information regarding the bathroom conditions, the overall positive aspects of French Creek State Park Campground Loop C, including the variety of campsites, access to Hopewell Lake, the seasonal pool, extensive trail system, and the park's convenient location, make it a compelling option for those searching for "camping near me." The availability of FHU sites in Loop C is a significant draw for RVers, and the paved sites offer a solid foundation for any camping setup. To obtain the most current information on bathroom conditions, availability, and any potential promotional offers, it is recommended to contact French Creek State Park directly or visit the official Pennsylvania State Parks website. French Creek State Park Campground Loop C Reviews
Campground is nice, bathrooms are horrible. Nothing done but trash emptied, showers plugged up and black water all over the floors. Looks like no one has cleaned them all year! Was the same earlier this year.
Aug 26, 2024 · Mike PedroLarge and well managed state park close to Birdsboro, Reading, Douglasville and Morgantown PA. Only about 1 hour from Philly or Lancaster. The Park has 4 camping loops, A, B, C and D. Loops A & D have no hookups and shared water spigot. Loop B has a mix of electric only and no hookups with shared water spigots. Loop C has about 20 FHU sites and the rest are electric only or no hookups with shared water spigots. All sites are paved, some better than others. There are a range of site lengths to fit any RV and tent camping is popular here. Bathhouses are older but very clean, and showers are free. The campground is about 1 mile from Hopewell Lake where you can canoe, kayak and fish and there is a huge pool near the lake open in season. Pool costs $4 for campers and there's a small cafe and store at the pool. There are miles and miles of hiking trails and it's a good biking place but you will be biking uphill to return to the campground from either the lake or the pool. They also have yurts and cabins for rent. Security is excellent and the park is regularly patrolled. I've stayed here often and will return.
May 03, 2018 · Christine MitchellBeautiful, peaceful state park with large campsites, clean bathrooms, big showers, tons of trails, a huge swimming pool, a lake, boat rentals, and even a playground for the youngsters. Our site had a trail in back that connects with a larger trail and I noticed that other sites did as well. Loop C is pet friendly, our dog loved all the awesome smells and exploring the trails. We look forward to camping here again!
Jul 26, 2018 · Sarah DecoteauFrench Creek has nice camper/trailer facilities as well as tent sites. I’ve camped there several times and never been disappointed. Also: If you see one of these fellas, no fear please. It’s a harmless orb spider, it looks scary, but rarely agitates.
