This campground, a true gem within the Eldorado National Forest, is lauded by its long-time visitors for its pristine environment, peaceful ambiance, and commitment to nature conservation. It offers an idyllic escape for those seeking a tranquil and beautiful outdoor experience, whether for a weekend getaway or an extended stay.
The environment at Gerle Creek Campground is consistently described with fervent enthusiasm. Visitors express an almost possessive love for the place, wishing to "keep it a secret" due to its exceptional beauty and tranquility. The "area is so gorgeous and the water sparkles, literally," indicating clear, inviting waters that are a focal point of the campground's appeal. This sparkling water likely refers to Gerle Creek itself, and potentially Gerle Creek Reservoir, which is very close by. The emphasis on "peace and quiet" underscores the campground's atmosphere, making it ideal for those who are "respectful of nature, wildlife, conservation, the environment and your fellow humans." This suggests a community of like-minded individuals who appreciate and contribute to the serenity of the area. The natural surroundings, characterized by healthy forests and clear waterways, provide a refreshing contrast to urban life. The long-term patronage of visitors, with one individual coming for "20+ years," speaks volumes about the enduring allure and consistent quality of the natural setting.
Gerle Creek Campground is praised not only for its natural beauty but also for its exceptional cleanliness and well-maintained facilities. Reviewers consistently highlight that the "campground is kept so clean," a testament to the dedication of the staff and the cooperation of visitors. This commitment to cleanliness significantly enhances the overall camping experience. The campground offers a variety of campsites, catering to diverse needs, including "many campsites and even some specific for RVs." This versatility makes it accessible for both tent campers and those with recreational vehicles, ensuring everyone can find a suitable spot. A notable upgrade is the presence of "trail upgrades that are now accessible to all," demonstrating an ongoing effort to improve the visitor experience and ensure inclusivity. This makes it easier for individuals of all abilities to explore the surrounding natural beauty. The services and features at Gerle Creek Campground are designed to enhance comfort and safety without detracting from the wilderness experience. A significant "huge bonus" for campers is the availability of "potable water!!!" This essential service eliminates the need for campers to haul in their own drinking water, making the stay more convenient. While not explicitly mentioned as full hookups, the presence of specific sites for RVs suggests amenities suitable for these vehicles. Safety is clearly a priority, as evidenced by the mention of "bear box’s" available at the campsites. While "there can be bears at night," the long-term visitor's assurance that they have "never had a bear issue" in over two decades of visits suggests that proper use of bear boxes and responsible food storage practices are effective in preventing encounters. This makes it a "safe place for kids and pets," allowing families to relax and enjoy their time. The quality of the infrastructure extends to the roads within the campground, with one reviewer enthusiastically stating, "I bring my skateboard the pavement is so nice," indicating well-maintained paved surfaces within the park that contribute to ease of movement and accessibility.
Recreational opportunities abound at Gerle Creek Campground. The proximity to water is a major draw, with the "awesome creek to hike and explore" and the aforementioned "beach hangouts" and "boardwalk." The "island in the middle of the lake is great for jumping," providing a fun and exhilarating activity for the adventurous. "Great fishing" is another key highlight, appealing to anglers looking to cast a line in the clear waters. Beyond water-based activities, the accessible trails offer opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding forest. The smooth pavement is a unique feature that even invites skateboarding, suggesting a relaxed and versatile environment. The overall atmosphere encourages respectful engagement with nature, from wildlife viewing to simply enjoying the serene sounds of the wilderness.

Jul 18, 2024 · christy sinclairI have been coming here for 20+ years. Nice to see the trail upgrades that are now accessible to all. There are many campsites and even some specific for RVs. There is beach hangouts and a boardwalk that goes out into the water. The island in the middle of the lake is great for jumping. Awesome creek to hike and explore. Great fishing and potable water!!! I bring my skateboard the pavement is so nice. Safe place for kids and pets though there can be bears at night. There are bear box’s. That all said, in the 20+ years I have been going here with my family, I have never had a bear issue.
Oct 13, 2023 · Elektra Mathews-NovelliA clean campground, quaint, and good for children. Lizards, bugs, and even little beaches are great to keep kids entertained. No motorboats on the reservoir, bring the paddles boards and kayaks.
Jun 02, 2024 · Be a LightGreat campground. Great hosts. Nita and Ron are great. Beautiful sunsets. Cleanest campground bathrooms ever. Love it.
Jul 10, 2024 · Douglas JudsonThe stereotypical family summer vacation retreat. Family, friends, kids, their dogs and possibly cats camping on or near the water. No motors on this reservoir. It's still hot at this elevation, but the shade from all the trees trumps it; the cool water trumps it. So many other camp grounds are barren of shade aside from the shadow I cast. Please stop milling about near me. My favorite thing to do is make my way out to the island. An excellent rock there challenges jumping fears from 5'-20'. Toss the ball to your dog or any of the other shameless canine ball thieves. Still spilling far too much of my carbonated beverage when I throw the ball. Shame! With the kids I prefer to be in a camp spot closer to the water for obvious reasons. If you have a pickup truck or mule like family member to carry your kayaks, rafts, floaties and coolers then any camp spot is fine. Most just leave their toys tied up near the shore with little concern of them coming up missing. Really enjoyed our last stay in 36. Very close walk to the creek, reservoir and facilities. Have yet to meet friendly's counterpart here. Time to free up some calendar space.
