GLAT Austin Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" with a touch of comfort and lakeside views, GLAT Austin, situated at 603 FM1441, Bastrop, TX 78602, USA, offers a unique getaway experience. This campground provides a variety of lodging options, including cabins and potentially luxury tents, along with access to a lake and some recreational amenities. However, a review of recent customer feedback reveals a mixed bag of experiences, highlighting both positive aspects and significant areas of concern that potential visitors should carefully consider.
One positive review describes GLAT Austin as a "nice close to home get away for a couple of days." The guest appreciated the comfortable bed, the quiet sleeping hours, and the "very nice view" of the lake. The unique experience of hearing Boy Scouts singing across the lake added to the positive ambiance. This reviewer also noted the availability of kayak rentals on-site, which they found convenient, eliminating the need to transport their own kayaks. While they mentioned a few small improvements for the owners regarding the cabin, their overall experience was positive, and they appreciated the owners' receptiveness to feedback.
However, other reviews present a more critical perspective. One guest recounted a "bumpy beginning" to their stay, involving a change from a luxury tent to a cabin due to an AC issue. This guest reported a negative interaction with the GLAT team over the phone, alleging being "yelled at and mistreated" during discussions about the accommodation change. While they eventually received a desired cabin, the initial customer service experience was described as unacceptable.
This same reviewer strongly advised against relying on the pictures on GLAT Austin's Instagram or website, stating that the reality is "not as glamourous as it seems" and more "average than it’s presented." Despite this, they acknowledged the "serene" location near convenience and liquor stores in Bastrop and appreciated the dock and a small lakeside area for breakfast.
In stark contrast to the initial positive review, this guest explicitly stated, "We will definitely not recommend nor stay in these locations again," citing numerous issues with the cleanliness and maintenance of their rental. These included a malfunctioning shower door, dead spiders in the showers, a sink full of dead mosquitos with poor drainage, an empty soap dish with no soap provided, and a lack of hot water. They also recommended bringing personal dishwashing supplies due to the apparent lack of cleanliness of provided utensils and plates.
Further complaints from this reviewer included an ant infestation in the coffee area that affected their food, an inflatable hot tub of questionable quality with excessive chlorine, dirty outdoor sofas, and a lack of sufficient blankets. They also reported numerous cobwebs in the decor, suggesting inadequate cleaning. A particularly concerning incident involved a family member being bitten by a spider while sleeping, requiring a hospital visit.
The description of the "TV inflatable" as a screen attached to a fence, available for an additional $100 as a projector rental, further contributed to the guest's disappointment, as it did not align with their expectations based on online pictures. They also reported issues with receiving a parking permit and a lack of assistance in setting up the projector on arrival, which was only resolved the next day by another helpful individual. Finally, they noted the absence of light near the fire pit, making it difficult to cook in the dark, and concluded that the pricing was not justified by the quality offered.
Considering these contrasting experiences, the "environment" of GLAT Austin appears to be a lakeside setting in Bastrop, Texas, near some local conveniences. The lake offers nice views and the possibility of kayaking (with rentals available). However, one crucial point to note is that the lake is a cooling reservoir for a power plant, resulting in warmer water temperatures, especially during the summer months, which might not be ideal for swimming. The surrounding area is described as having limited development, contributing to a quieter atmosphere.
The "services" and "features" of GLAT Austin seem to include cabin and potentially luxury tent rentals, kayak rentals, a dock with lake access, and a hot tub (though its quality is questioned). There is also mention of a "coffee area" and a "fire pit," although the latter lacked lighting. The availability of a projector for rent is also noted. However, based on the negative review, the quality and reliability of these services and features appear to be inconsistent. Cleanliness, hot water availability, and the condition of amenities like the hot tub and outdoor furniture are areas of concern.
There is no "promotional information" provided in the reviews. Local users interested in potential discounts or special offers would need to contact GLAT Austin directly at (512) 859-3881 or +1 512-859-3881 or check their website or other booking platforms.
In conclusion, GLAT Austin offers a lakeside location near Bastrop, Texas, with cabin and potentially luxury tent accommodations and amenities like kayak rentals. While one reviewer enjoyed a peaceful getaway and appreciated the lake views, other feedback raises significant concerns about cleanliness, maintenance, the accuracy of online representations, and customer service. The warm lake water due to its use as a cooling reservoir is also a factor to consider, particularly for summer visits. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully weigh these mixed reviews and potentially seek more up-to-date information before making a booking decision. It would be advisable to inquire specifically about the current condition of the accommodations and amenities and to clarify cancellation policies and service expectations.

GLAT Austin Reviews
This was a nice close to home get away for a couple of days. The place was comfortable to catch up on some sleep with the very cozy bed. The community was quiet during sleeping hours and the lake was a very nice view. It was fun to hear the Boy Scouts across the lake singing their chants when the sun went down. You could just hear the fun everyone was having and good vibes all around you. Overall this was a great experience and we did let the owners know about a few small improvements to the cabin. Just a few simple fixes to not get worked up over to help them improve their customer experience and they were appreciative of the feedback. One thing to keep in mind is this lake is not the best summer lake to cool down in as it is a cooling reservoir for the power plant. The water is fine and clean but is pretty warm. It would be great for the cooler parts if he year to warm up in. There is not a lot of development around the lake which makes for a quiet and nice view. There is also kayak rentals in the camp area which makes it easy not have to lug yours around if you have one.
Jun 10, 2024 · Garrett HesterSo we had a bumpy beginning to our stay. We initially rented luxury tent and got moved due to an AC issue, initially they wanted to move us into a cabin which we did not like at all , so we called and tried discussing this with the Glat team. I got yelled at and mistreated, which in all honesty is not Ok because that is no way to treat guests. In the end the lady over the phone agreed to give us the cabin desired and just hung up.My recommendation is to not go by their instagram nor website pictures. It’s not as glamourous as it seems. It’s more average than it’s presented. The park itself is serene location near many corner stores/liquor stores in Bastrop. Which is great ! They have dock where you can go to the lake and small area where we decided to go and eat some breakfast, was great! We will definitely not recommend nor stay in these locations again. The rental was not very clean, shower in the cabin door wouldn’t slide properly, not to mention we had dead spiders in the showers, I mean I’m sure being in nature and all it would be normal to find them around the cabin. Yet these were dead and seemed like they did not mind cleaning it.The soap provided was terrible ( got two soap bars that smelled so bad , and 2 conditioners and a bunch a shampoos) smelled terrible. Just being your own, we bought our own soap bar at the corner store.Sink was full of dead mosquitos , and water wouldn’t really drain , q tip bowl (decor was empty) , no soap. No hot water whatsoever, so just make sure you are prepared.Make sure to bring pots and a clean sponge in order to wash your dishes. Thankfully we came very prepared and didn’t require to use their utensils/ plates.Coffee area had ants which is a bummer because they got all over our produce and condiments.I’d like to say that the hot tub is an inflatable , so don’t expect much quality in the heating either. And ours had too much chlorine , view the bubbles. We only used it once in our whole stay.I honestly think they should definitely invest in maintaining the places. They have so much potential and require some cleaning. The sofas outside were very dirty. The bed itself was comfortable but bring blankets , they don’t offer many if you get cold easily. Plus careful they don’t seem to clean the decor , they had many many webs around , I think they should make sure these are dusted off at least before renters come.A family member got bit by one while asleep and we ended up having to take him to the hospital. Also , TV inflatable is not an inflatable , it is a screen attached to the fence , so don’t go based on the picture, it is NOT included, it’s an additional $100 so make sure you are aware. It’s actually a projector. The first night we arrived , we did not receive our parking permit for the days we would stay there, we found out on our own the next dayOn the day of arrival we asked to be help connect the projector for which they said yeah yeah we will come back and they never returned. They did not help us set up the projector but we had a really nice man comeThe next day and help us. Finally we were able to use it.No light near the fire pit, so we had to cook in the dark.Just consider the pricing for the stay is definitely not worth it for the quality they offered.
Oct 29, 2024 · Laura CastrejonThe location of the GLAT is perfect. However, unlike an Airbnb or a hotel, there is nobody available to answer your questions and help you out. At the entrance to the park property there is a check in station, however the people attending this check in station are not associated with the GLAT rentals. The people at the park check in station are LCRA employees and the GLATs belong to a rental company. The employees simply verify your your reservation email and issue a parking pass to park on the property. We had issues with the wifi password (the one provided in the check-in email was incorrect), missing ceiling fan remote, one restroom barn door hardware made it impossible to fully open making us squeeze through the opening to enter the restroom, the shower glass door did not secure close, leaving an approximately 1/4 inch opening causing water to spill all over the restroom floor. The unfortunate part is that we called the phone number on the reservation, and the info@glatusa.com email without a response to this date. Good place to stay but without the customer service and minor oversights, this should not be priced at glamping rates.
Feb 18, 2025 · Jose SanchezIf the experience onsite is anything like dealing with their customer service, stay away from GLAT properties. They collect in full in advance but then make it unreasonably difficult to cancel, which feels very scammy. I tried contacting them by email (more than once) and by phone, to no avail, and when I finally did get a response, they couldn't have been less helpful. They simply redirected me back to the web site where there is no discernible way to cancel a reservations and both the FAQ and the Terms of Service pages return 404 errors. Ultimately I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
Feb 17, 2025 · Ben BWe really enjoyed our stay at GLAT Austin. The views are incredible, the cabin was perfect and had everything we needed, and the hot tub made relaxation perfect. The cabin had everything we needed to make our stay easy and stressfree. The lake was right out our cabin door and had made the view amazing.10./10 would stay here again.
