Gold Rush RV Park Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Sumpter, Oregon area and prefer a more rustic experience with friendly service? Gold Rush RV Park, located at 810 NW New St, Sumpter, OR 97877, USA, might be the place for you. You can reach them at (541) 510-2090 or +1 541-510-2090 to inquire about site availability and any specific information you may need.
Based on the available online reviews, Gold Rush RV Park offers a no-frills camping experience characterized by its welcoming owners and a sense of community. One reviewer who visited for the 2017 eclipse reported having a "great time," specifically praising the owners for being "so nice" and mentioning that their children enjoyed playing with the owners' children. This suggests a family-friendly and personal touch from the park management. Notably, even during a crowded event like the eclipse, the reviewer mentioned "plenty of clean port-a-potties," indicating that basic sanitation needs are addressed. However, it's important to note that this reviewer also explicitly stated, "No showers, pool, or other amenities," and that "The sites are primitive," although they did have electricity at their site. A significant downside mentioned was "the road noise," which potential campers should be aware of.
Another reviewer also highlighted the positive interaction with the owners, describing them as "super nice" and appreciative of their willingness to "work with us" by clearing snow to accommodate their stay for a yearly event. This further reinforces the impression of accommodating and helpful park management.
Considering the category "camping near me," Gold Rush RV Park appears to cater to those who prioritize a basic, rustic camping experience over extensive amenities. The availability of electricity at some sites is a plus, bridging the gap between true primitive camping and more developed RV parks. However, the absence of showers and other common campground amenities like a pool means that campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient stay. The reliance on port-a-potties for sanitation, while reported as clean even during high occupancy, is another aspect to consider for comfort and convenience.
To provide a more comprehensive understanding of what Gold Rush RV Park offers, it's helpful to consider the typical features and services of campgrounds, especially those described as primitive:
- Primitive Campsites: These sites generally offer minimal development. As mentioned in the reviews, they may or may not include hookups like water or sewer. The presence of electricity at some sites at Gold Rush RV Park is a notable feature that enhances the basic offering. Campers should inquire about the specific amenities available at each site when booking.
- Sanitation Facilities: The availability of "plenty of clean port-a-potties" indicates that basic sanitation needs are met, although the lack of permanent restrooms and showers is a significant difference from campgrounds with more developed facilities.
- Water Access: The reviews do not explicitly mention the availability of potable water hookups at individual sites or communal water sources. Campers should confirm water availability and plan accordingly, potentially bringing their own water supply if necessary.
- Recreational Opportunities: While specific recreational amenities like a pool or organized activities are absent, the positive experiences related to the eclipse visit and the yearly run suggest that the surrounding environment might offer opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities. Sumpter, Oregon, is located in a historically significant gold mining area and is surrounded by natural beauty, including the Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area. Campers might find opportunities for hiking, historical exploration, and enjoying the natural landscape.
- Road Noise: The mention of "road noise" as a downside is an important environmental factor to consider. Depending on the proximity of campsites to nearby roads, this could impact the tranquility of the camping experience. Light sleepers might want to inquire about site locations within the park that are furthest from the road.
- Friendly Management: Both reviews strongly emphasize the positive interactions with the owners, highlighting their friendliness and willingness to accommodate guests. This personal touch can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, especially in a more rustic setting where direct interaction with the management is often more frequent.
Sumpter, Oregon, is a small town with a rich history tied to the gold rush era. Its location in the eastern part of the state offers access to the scenic landscapes of the Blue Mountains. In conclusion, Gold Rush RV Park in Sumpter, OR, offers a basic and rustic camping experience with the key advantages of friendly and accommodating owners and, at least at some sites, the availability of electricity. It caters to campers who are comfortable with primitive conditions and do not require amenities like showers or a pool. The cleanliness of the provided port-a-potties is a positive aspect. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported road noise. Gold Rush RV Park Reviews
We visited for the 2017 eclipse and had a great time. The owners are so nice and their kids had a great time playing with mine. Plenty of clean port-a-potties, even during the crowded eclipse weekend. No showers, pool, or other amenities. The sites are primitive, but we had electricity at ours. Only downside was the road noise.
Oct 22, 2017 · Jamie CoupaudOwners are super nice and worked with us. Cleared snow so we had somewhere to stay for a yearly run.
Apr 08, 2025 · Snow StomperVery clean and welcoming. Great bathrooms and laundry room. Across from quiet residences so had a shy, friendly lab come through in the AM while we were having breakfasts. Made a new friend.
Jul 11, 2021 · Sally BrennandNice place. Dumb attitude on the attendant who thought he was a cop. Said I was parked illegally in handicap parking despite my Disabled permit plate. He even brought in backup. They finally backed off after a brief Google search and show. Didn't even apologize. Still the dredge is awesome! Such history to see. Amazing what they did back in the day. You have to see this machine in its habitat. Beautiful Sumpter, Oregon.
Jun 01, 2024 · Doc BravoThis place was awesome last time I went there. Even found some gold while I was there. Very clean bathrooms with plenty of hot water. The lady that owns is married to one of the park rangers there.
