Goose Dam Campground Introduce
For local users in Virginia and travelers passing through, Goose Dam Campground, located at 1155 Goose Dam Rd, Rocky Mount, VA 24151, USA, offers a seemingly basic camping option. You can contact them at (540) 483-2100 or +1 540-483-2100. Situated in Franklin County, VA, it is positioned as a potential "pit stop" for those seeking a break from public noise and confusion, offering a chance to reconnect with the natural world. Its location also suggests proximity to the North Country for those traveling that route and convenient access to Martinsville Raceway while being outside of the immediate traffic congestion.
One reviewer described Goose Dam Campground as a place to "get back to the basics," implying a more rustic and perhaps less amenity-filled camping experience. For those searching for "camping near me" focused primarily on a quiet natural environment rather than extensive facilities, this might initially seem appealing. The mention of being close enough to Martinsville Raceway yet removed from the traffic zone could also attract racing enthusiasts looking for a convenient camping spot during events, with the added benefit of Uber service availability to the raceway.
However, it is crucial for local users considering Goose Dam Campground for their "camping near me" needs to be aware of a significantly negative recent review that paints a starkly different picture. This review strongly advises potential guests to "stay away from this place if at all possible," citing numerous serious issues that severely impacted the reviewer's experience.
According to this highly critical review, initial interactions with someone named Kirston seemed pleasant, and assurances were given regarding included amenities such as laundry and trash pickup for a longer-term stay. However, these promises allegedly were not kept. After a week, the reviewer stated they were informed there would be no trash pickup, and their laundry was removed from the washing machine, left out, and the laundry room was subsequently locked for days, resulting in damage to personal belongings.
Most concerningly, the review details a "SEWAGE LEAK beside our camper" where the reviewer had four children. Despite contacting the management for a week, the reviewer claims that "nothing was done" to address this significant health and safety issue. This lack of response allegedly led the reviewer to take legal action, after which they were reportedly kicked out of the campground despite having already paid. This raises serious concerns about the responsiveness and responsibility of the campground management regarding essential maintenance and the well-being of their guests.
The reviewer further describes the campground as "so poorly taken care of" that they had to hire a towing service to help them get their camper out. During this process, the reviewer alleges that Kirston was at another campsite, taking pictures, laughing, and verbally abusing the tow truck drivers. If accurate, this behavior suggests a highly unprofessional and hostile management style, further reinforcing the reviewer's strong recommendation to avoid the campground.
The reviewer also mentions that the health department has been notified about the conditions at Goose Dam Campground, as well as a sister campground. This indicates that the alleged issues are significant enough to warrant external regulatory attention. For local users searching for "camping near me," these allegations of poor maintenance, unresolved sewage leaks, and unprofessional management should be taken very seriously when considering Goose Dam Campground.
Given the severity of the negative review, it is difficult to objectively assess the current services and features of Goose Dam Campground based solely on the limited information available. While the initial positive description suggests a basic, quiet stop with proximity to nature and Martinsville Raceway, the detailed negative account raises serious red flags regarding the upkeep of the campground, the reliability of promised amenities, and the responsiveness of the management to critical issues like sewage leaks.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. Local users who might still be considering Goose Dam Campground despite the negative review would be strongly advised to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current conditions, the status of the alleged issues, and the services and amenities that are currently guaranteed. It would be prudent to ask specific questions about waste management, laundry facilities, and the overall maintenance of the campsites and surrounding areas.
In conclusion, Goose Dam Campground is presented as a basic camping option in Rocky Mount, VA, offering a potentially quiet environment and proximity to Martinsville Raceway. However, a recent customer review details extremely concerning allegations of unaddressed sewage leaks, broken promises regarding amenities, poor campground maintenance, and unprofessional management behavior. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider this negative feedback and exercise extreme caution before making a reservation at Goose Dam Campground. It would be essential to seek further information and assurances from the campground management regarding the current conditions and their commitment to providing a safe and satisfactory camping experience.

Aug 18, 2017 · PatriciaAnnIf I could give this no stars or negative stars I would. At first Kirston came off pretty nice after talking we were told of laundry and trash pickup were included bc we were staying for a while, while we're in between houses. After a weeks time we were told of no trash and our laundry was taken out of the wash and set out and the laundry room was then locked for days ruining our personal belongings. Also I would like to mention the SEWAGE LEAK beside our camper that I have 4 children in. AFTER CONTACTING FOR A WEEK NOTHING WAS DONE. So I went further and took a legal route and was kicked out after paying. The campground is so poorly taken care of we had to hire a towing service to help get us out while Kirston sat at another camp site taking pictures and laughing the entire time as well as cussing out our tow drivers. The health department has been notified as well as the other campground it sisters too. I would advise everyone to stay away from this place if all possible! It's a joke I'm also putting pictures up of the campground.
Aug 15, 2021 · angie bobbittHORRIBLE!!! If I could post no stars I would!!!! First I tried calling. The owners phone went straight to voicemail with the mailbox being full, so I texted like the message said to. I NEVER got a reply. I did this for 2 weeks then decided to just show up and check it out. Talk about a dump! It definitely has been neglected for years. There was trash everywhere you looked, Nothing was cleaned, everything was broken and rusted. It is a DISGUSTING, RUN DOWN, HOBO VILLAGE!!! We are loving hippies but I wouldnt even let my dog outside afraid he would step on a rusty needle!!! Please HEED MY WARNING!!!!!
Feb 12, 2023 · Kelly KimberlinBeautiful and clean setting and wonderful people. Keep in mind when reading the negative reviews posted in the last few days that they are coming from people who are too cowardess to use their real names and who have been asked to leave for not paying a dime while staying there for many months.Tbese people include a family with children and multiple dogs living in a camper given to them by the owner. Please note these people are still there and ask yourself why if it's so bad. Instead, Please see all the many many positive comments and take others with a grain of salt and consider the source. Kirsten and the gang will take great care of you....Guaranteed!
