Lazy Cove Campground Introduce
When searching for "camping near me" in the Penhook, Virginia area, Lazy Cove Campground, located at 25 Plantation Dr, Penhook, VA 24137, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. One review contains a serious allegation of racism against the owner, advising Black individuals not to visit and referencing a court case. Conversely, another review from a long-term renter expresses strong positive sentiment, highlighting the enjoyment of a waterfront spot and the creation of family memories. It is essential for prospective local users to consider both perspectives when evaluating this campground.
The environment of Lazy Cove Campground is described by a long-term renter as a place where they have been leasing a waterfront spot for the past six years and have come to love it. The direct access to water, presumably Smith Mountain Lake given the proximity of Penhook to the lake, is a significant environmental feature. The renter mentions having their own dock, which their grandchildren thoroughly enjoy swimming from, indicating a family-friendly waterfront environment. The ability to have friends and family visit for weekends was a primary goal for this renter, suggesting that the campground accommodates and is conducive to social gatherings and enjoying time with loved ones in a lakeside setting. This positive review paints a picture of a potentially beautiful and enjoyable environment, particularly for those who secure a waterfront location and value long-term community and family-oriented camping.
In terms of services and features, the limited information from the reviews provides some insights. The long-term renter's mention of leasing a waterfront spot for six years suggests that Lazy Cove Campground offers long-term leasing options for certain sites, particularly those with lake access. The presence of a private dock for these leased spots is a significant feature, offering direct access to the water for swimming and potentially boating or fishing. The fact that the renter has made the space their own and feels "extremely comfortable here" implies that long-term residents are allowed a degree of personalization and integration into the campground community. However, the stark contrast with the other review, which does not detail services but warns against visiting based on alleged racism, creates a complex and potentially concerning picture regarding the overall service and atmosphere for all visitors. The reference to a court case related to the owner's alleged racism is a serious matter that prospective visitors should consider and potentially investigate further if possible.
The key features of Lazy Cove Campground, based on the positive review, appear to be its waterfront locations with private docks, the option for long-term leasing, and a community atmosphere that fosters enjoyment for families and visitors. The ability to personalize a leased space over several years suggests a degree of stability and investment for long-term residents. The focus on creating fun memories with grandchildren, friends, and family indicates that the campground, at least in some areas and for some residents, provides a setting for positive social interactions and recreational activities centered around Smith Mountain Lake. However, the serious allegation of racism from another reviewer casts a significant shadow over these potential features. The claim of a "super racist" owner and the reference to a court case suggest a potentially discriminatory environment that could severely impact the experience of certain individuals or groups. This negative aspect cannot be ignored and represents a critical factor for anyone considering this campground.
Currently, there is no information regarding any promotional offers for Lazy Cove Campground in the provided reviews. Given the conflicting nature of the feedback, with a long-term positive experience juxtaposed against a severe accusation of racism, any potential promotions would need to be weighed against the potential for a negative or discriminatory experience. Local users searching for "camping near me" should prioritize their safety and comfort, and allegations of racism should be taken extremely seriously. It would be prudent to seek additional information or recent feedback from a wider range of sources to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current environment and management at Lazy Cove Campground before making a decision to visit.
In conclusion, Lazy Cove Campground in Penhook, VA, presents a complex scenario for those seeking "camping near me." While a long-term renter expresses satisfaction with their waterfront leased spot and the community aspect, a separate review makes a serious allegation of racism against the owner, referencing a court case. This stark contrast in feedback means that prospective visitors must carefully consider these points. The potential for a beautiful waterfront environment and a welcoming community for some may be overshadowed by concerns about discriminatory practices for others. It is strongly recommended that individuals conduct further research and seek recent, diverse perspectives on Lazy Cove Campground to make an informed decision that aligns with their values and expectations for a safe and enjoyable camping experience.

Lazy Cove Campground Reviews
If you're black, don't go here. The owner is super racist!! Look up the court case
Apr 21, 2025 · Alicia WashingtonWe've been leasing a water front spot for the past 6 years and we love it. We've made this space our own and are extremely comfortable here. We have our own dock that our grandchildren thoroughly enjoy swimming from. Our friends and family love to visit for the weekends which was our goal in leasing to begin with. We wanted and are creating many fun memories.
Sep 01, 2020 · Robin GlidewellThis is the best campground we have been at. The owner, Regina, bends backwards to accommodate your needs. It is very peaceful and friendly! We have a lot that is huge. It has a wonderful view of this section of the lake. We have our own dock which we enjoy swimming off of. I couldn't recommend this place more! I've read previous reviews and I'd like to say for the negative ones in the last year I truly disagree with them.
