This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, features, and potential promotional aspects of Gordons Campground based on the available feedback.
The Environment of Gordons Campground in Wolcottville, IN
Gordons Campground is situated in Wolcottville, a town in northeastern Indiana. The surrounding environment is likely characterized by the rural landscapes typical of this part of the state. One positive review mentions a "peaceful camp site," suggesting that some areas of the campground may offer a tranquil setting. However, another review paints a different picture, describing "loud sites multiple nights in a row" with partying, yelling, loud music, cussing, and smoking extending well past the stated quiet time of 12 am. The same reviewer also noted smelling weed throughout the campground on multiple occasions. This stark contrast suggests that the environment within Gordons Campground may be inconsistent, with some areas potentially offering a peaceful experience while others can be quite disruptive, particularly at night.
Services and Amenities at Gordons Campground
Customer reviews provide some insight into the services and amenities available at Gordons Campground:
- Campsites: The campground offers campsites suitable for different types of camping, as one reviewer was traveling in a school bus and found a place to park overnight. The sites are described as "wide."
- Playground: A playground is available for children, though one reviewer described it as "very retro." Despite its age, it was functional for kids to play.
- Restrooms and Showers: The campground has restrooms and showers. However, one reviewer found the women's bathrooms to be in poor condition, noting issues such as doors that wouldn't lock, old chipping paint, rust, missing signs on doors, toilet paper rolls that didn't roll, and showers with very short water running increments.
- Pet-Friendly: Pets are allowed at the campground. However, one reviewer mentioned waking up to dogs howling and barking and encountering random dog poop piles.
- Karaoke: A karaoke night was offered, and one reviewer enjoyed it, particularly on the Fourth of July.
- Fireworks Show: A fireworks show was also mentioned as a "pro," suggesting that the campground may host special events around holidays.
- Refund Policy (Partial): The owner provided a refund for a night when a family decided to leave early due to their negative experiences, indicating a willingness to address concerns, at least partially.
The reviews present a mixed picture of the services. While some amenities like a playground and special events like karaoke and fireworks are offered, the condition of the restrooms and the issues with noise and pet management raise concerns.
Features of Gordons Campground Based on Customer Experiences
The features of Gordons Campground, as described by customer reviews, present a dichotomy:
- Potentially Lively Atmosphere: The presence of karaoke nights and a fireworks show suggests a campground that can be lively and host events.
- Spacious Campsites: The "wide camping spots" are a potential positive for those seeking more room.
- Retro Playground: While functional, the playground's retro nature might appeal to some for nostalgic reasons but may not meet the expectations of all families.
- Noise Issues: Multiple nights of loud partying extending past quiet hours appear to be a significant feature, potentially detracting from a peaceful stay.
- Cleanliness Concerns: The detailed description of the poor condition of the women's bathrooms raises concerns about overall cleanliness and maintenance in some areas.
- Pet-Related Issues: While pet-friendly, the reported noise from dogs and the presence of dog poop piles could be a drawback for some campers.
- Flea Infestation (Reported): The serious claim of an entire family getting flea bites all over their ankles is a significant negative feature to consider.
Promotional Information and Why Consider (or Exercise Caution with) Gordons Campground for Your Local Getaway
For local users searching for "camping near me," Gordons Campground offers a location in Wolcottville, IN, and some potential benefits, but also significant drawbacks based on recent customer experiences. Here's a balanced perspective to help you decide:
- Potential for Lively Events: If you enjoy karaoke and fireworks, Gordons Campground might offer these during certain times, as experienced by one reviewer on the Fourth of July. Check their schedule for any planned events.
- Spacious Sites: The wide campsites could be appealing if you prefer more room and less crowded conditions at your site.
- Pet-Friendly Option: If you travel with pets, Gordons Campground allows them. However, be prepared for potential noise and cleanliness issues related to other pets.
- Convenient Location for Some: For residents of Wolcottville or those in the immediate vicinity, it offers a very local camping option.
- Consider the Mixed Reviews Carefully: The stark contrast between the positive and negative reviews is crucial. The negative review provides detailed and serious concerns about noise levels, cleanliness (especially of bathrooms), and a reported flea infestation.
- Inquire About Current Conditions: Given the concerning negative feedback, it would be wise to contact Gordons Campground directly to inquire about their current policies on noise control, pet management, and the condition of their facilities. Ask specifically about recent improvements or addressed issues.
- Weigh the Pros and Cons for Your Needs: If you are looking for a quiet, family-friendly campground with well-maintained facilities, the negative review suggests that Gordons Campground may not currently meet these expectations. However, if you prioritize a potentially lively atmosphere and are less concerned about some of the reported issues, it might be an option to consider, especially after direct communication with the owners about their current practices.
Before making a decision about camping at Gordons Campground for your "camping near me" trip, it is strongly recommended to call them directly at (260) 351-3383 or +1 260-351-3383. Ask detailed questions about their noise policies, pet rules, bathroom conditions, and any pest control measures they have in place. Consider the significant negative feedback alongside the limited positive comments to determine if this campground aligns with your expectations for a local camping experience. Exercise caution and seek current information before booking your stay.

Gordons Campground Reviews
My family and I were traveling through Indiana on our way to Cedar Point in Ohio on our school bus and were looking last minute for a place to park overnight. We cameacross Gordon's campground and are pleased we decided to stay the night! It was fourth of July and we were able to enjoy karaoke and a peaceful camp site. The playground was very retro and fine for the kids to play! The staff were exceptional and we will definitely stay here again!
Jul 06, 2024 · Natasha KruithofNot family friendly. Loud sites multiple nights in a row (we stayed 3 nights) until 2:30am with people partying, yelling, loud music, cussing and smoking. The quiet time was 12am. Multiple times we smelled weed throughout the campground. When talking to other campers, they made us aware this is how it always is.Also, my entire family (13 family members total) got flea bites all over our ankles NOT mosquito bites.we didn’t get a single mosquito bite anywhere else on our body only flea bites on our ankles. Pets are allowed, so be prepared to wake up to dogs howling and barking in the morning and random dog poop piles. Some women’s bathroom doors wouldn’t lock and bathrooms honestly just look awful (old chipping paint, rust, no sign on doors toilet paper rolls don’t roll and super hard to get toilet paper off. Shower only runs for about 10 second increments then you have to keep hitting the button to keep water running. Can definitely tell that this is a party campground and not well kept.We spoke with owner about why we were leaving 1 day early and she refunded us our last night, which was nice, but super sad this place was like this. Definitely not as kid friendly as expected or as nice as I remember years and years ago. Won’t be coming back.Pros: great fireworks show & karaoke night.
Jul 07, 2024 · Aly SDon’t think about walking or talking to each other around the campsite. Seasonal campers will try to assault you, just to cause a problem. I’ve been camping my whole life, never having to deal with 50 year old alcoholics grabbing our shirts than trying to throw us to the ground because they’ve got nothing better to do with their night. Remember the locals own the place, not the guy living in a house with a foundation.
Jun 08, 2024 · Connor ReeseThis a great campground. We attend a Coleman collectors gathering every year. Every year, the folks who run this place really take care of our group. Thank you, Gordon's staff.
Sep 30, 2024 · Robert PontiusHighly don’t recommend this campsite for anyone wanting to come get away for a weekend. The locals think they run the campground and are extremely rude to any outside guests. I have been camping for the past 8 years and have never experienced anything as disrespectful as them in my life.
