Atwood Lake Campground Introduce
For those in the northeastern Indiana region searching within the 'camping near me' category for a lakeside camping experience, Atwood Lake Campground, located at 655 County Rd 800 S, Wolcottville, IN 46795, presents itself as an option with a potentially appealing environment, particularly for those interested in fishing. Based on the available customer reviews, the campground offers sites near Atwood Lake and generally provides a clean and well-managed atmosphere. However, potential visitors should also be aware of comments regarding facility conditions and recent price increases for primitive camping.
The environment of Atwood Lake Campground is a significant draw, especially for those seeking 'camping near me' with access to water-based activities. The positive review specifically mentions a "sweet spot by the lake," indicating that some campsites offer direct or convenient access to Atwood Lake. This suggests opportunities for fishing, which is explicitly mentioned as a "good location if you're into fishing" in another review. Lakeside camping often provides scenic views and the potential for activities such as boating, kayaking, or simply enjoying the waterfront. The overall atmosphere is described as "pleasant," further suggesting a potentially enjoyable natural setting for a camping getaway. However, the reviews do not provide extensive details about the surrounding landscape beyond the lake itself, such as the presence of hiking trails, wooded areas, or specific types of wildlife that might be encountered.
In terms of services and facilities, the reviews offer a somewhat mixed perspective for those considering Atwood Lake Campground within the 'camping near me' context. One review notes that the "facilities could be better but not bad," which suggests that while basic amenities are likely present, they might not be state-of-the-art. Typical campground facilities include restrooms, showers, and potentially laundry facilities. For RV campers, hookups for water, electricity, and sewer might be available, although this is not explicitly stated in the provided information. The mention of "bare primitive" camping implies the availability of more rustic, undeveloped campsites without direct hookups. It's important for potential visitors to inquire directly about the specific facilities offered at different types of campsites to ensure they meet their needs. The positive review mentioning a "clean and well managed" atmosphere suggests that the campground strives to maintain a certain level of order and cleanliness, which is a crucial aspect of campground services.
The features of Atwood Lake Campground, as gleaned from the reviews, include its lakeside location, which is a primary feature for those interested in fishing and waterfront access when searching 'camping near me'. The availability of both primitive and presumably more developed campsites (though not explicitly detailed) offers options for different camping preferences. The positive review from someone who traditionally stayed at a nearby campground but found Atwood Lake Campground to be a better experience (less like a "trailer park") suggests that Atwood Lake Campground might offer a more traditional campground feel for those seeking that. However, the significant price increase for primitive camping, from $12 to $30 per night, is a notable feature that potential primitive campers will need to consider. This price point is described as "a bit much" by one reviewer, indicating it might be higher than expected for a basic, undeveloped site. The speed limit within the campground is mentioned as 10mph, which is a common safety feature in campgrounds with pedestrian traffic.
Regarding promotional information, the provided reviews do not contain any details about discounts, special offers, or packages available at Atwood Lake Campground. When considering options within the 'camping near me' category, it is always advisable to inquire directly about pricing for different types of campsites (primitive vs. those with hookups), as well as any potential discounts for extended stays, seniors, military personnel, or off-season camping. Calling the provided phone number, (260) 854-3079 or +1 260-854-3079, would be the best way to obtain current pricing information and learn about any ongoing promotions that might be available to local users.
The customer reviews offer valuable, albeit contrasting, perspectives on Atwood Lake Campground. The positive review highlights a "sweet spot by the lake" and a "very pleasant experience" with a "clean and well managed" atmosphere. This suggests that many visitors may have positive experiences, particularly those securing desirable lakeside sites. However, the negative review raises concerns about a significant price increase for primitive camping and an interaction with a manager described as "rude" and "belligerent" regarding a minor speed limit infraction in an area with no pedestrians. While this seems to be an isolated incident mentioned by one reviewer, it's something potential visitors might want to keep in mind. The reviewer also notes that other staff members were "nice," indicating that the negative interaction might not be representative of the entire staff. The comparison to the "parent campground" becoming more of a "trailer park" suggests that Atwood Lake Campground might offer a different, potentially more traditional, camping environment that some visitors prefer.
In conclusion, Atwood Lake Campground in Wolcottville, IN, offers a lakeside setting that could be appealing for those searching within the 'camping near me' category, especially if fishing is a priority. While one reviewer found the facilities adequate but not exceptional, another praised the clean and well-managed atmosphere. Potential visitors should be aware of a significant price increase for primitive camping and the isolated negative experience with a manager regarding a minor traffic infraction. It is highly recommended to contact Atwood Lake Campground directly at (260) 854-3079 or +1 260-854-3079 to inquire about current pricing, specific facilities available at different campsites, and any promotional offers. Weighing the positive comments about the lakeside location and overall management against the concerns raised about primitive camping costs and a specific staff interaction will help local users determine if Atwood Lake Campground is the right choice for their next camping adventure.

Atwood Lake Campground Reviews
Good location if you're into fishing. Facilities could be better but not bad. The rate increase for primitive camping is a bit much. The price jumped from $12 to $30 per night for bare primitive. I could handle all that. What I can't handle is one of the managers. I believe her name is Christie. She got rude with me about driving 15mph on the 10mph speed limit drive up to the office. I could understand if i were driving that fast past the gate. There are usually a fair amount of people walking around, but before you get to the gate, there's no one. I can't understand her level.of belligerence. The other ladies running the place are nice but I will not be back.
Jun 29, 2024 · Matt GambillWe've traditionally stayed at the parent campground "Indian Springs" but it's become more of a trailer park than campground. We gave these guys a shot on a holiday weekend and they had a sweet spot by the lake. It was a very pleasant experience and the atmosphere was clean and well managed. Cannot wait to get back there this season. Thanks!
Apr 28, 2024 · Timothy SutterI love atwood campground been going there for 45 yrs. But unfortunately it goes down hill ever year. Last year was an exception.
Oct 19, 2024 · Rodney CoxThe Good: Very pretty area. Decent size beach. Nice size lots. Quiet. Friendly seasonal campers who ensure activities are scheduled for the campground (kids activities, bingo, golf cart poker runs, corn hole tournaments). The Not so Good: Inconsistent office hours. You don't always receive a call back. The shower houses are in need of major updating and repair and are not always stocked well. The roads are in desperate need of maintenance. Very large ruts (really tough on cars/RVs) and lots of standing water. If the owner would put money into keeping the the shower houses and roads in good shape and hire staff to ensure consistent office hours and consisten answers, I would give this campground a 5/5 vs. the 2/5.
May 31, 2022 · JPoor maintenance and management has drug the place down over the years. Facilities in shambles and the bare minimum done by owner. Prices keep going up and amenities keep disappearing. Campers are great friendly folks and it is right off a lake which is nice. But that is bout as far as the good goes.
