According to one enthusiastic camper, Grandview Campground is an "awesome campground" particularly noted for its exceptional stargazing opportunities. The reviewer highlights that "the stars are amazing at night," suggesting that the campground's location offers dark skies with minimal light pollution, perfect for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the beauty of the night sky. The campground is also described as "pretty quiet," indicating a peaceful and relaxing environment away from the noise of more crowded areas. The campsites are noted to be "flat" and offer "a decent amount of room," providing comfort and space for various camping setups. A key feature of Grandview Campground's location is its proximity to the "Sierra overlook," suggesting easy access to stunning panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Another reviewer identifies Grandview Campground as a "Nice Forest Service campground," which often implies well-maintained basic amenities and a focus on preserving the natural environment. The specific amenities mentioned include "Picnic tables," providing a convenient space for outdoor dining and activities at each campsite. "Vault toilets" are available, which are typical for more rustic campgrounds without full plumbing hookups. The presence of "shade trees" is a significant benefit, offering relief from the sun, especially during warmer months. "Fire rings" are also provided, allowing campers to safely enjoy campfires (subject to local fire regulations) for cooking and ambiance. It's important to note that the campground offers "No hookups," meaning there are no connections for water, electricity, or sewer for RVs or trailers; campers should be prepared for dry camping.
A major draw of Grandview Campground is its "Beautiful views up in the mountains," reinforcing its scenic location and the opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada. The reviewer also points out that there is "No cell service" available at the campground. This can be a significant consideration for those who need to stay connected but can also be a benefit for those seeking a true escape from technology and the demands of modern life. The lack of cell service encourages a more present and nature-focused camping experience.
An important piece of information shared by the reviewer is the presence of "Plague warnings in all the campgrounds around here." This is a crucial health and safety advisory for anyone visiting the area. The reviewer specifically advises, "if you bring your pets, make sure they’re on flea preventative," as fleas can be carriers of the plague. This highlights the importance of taking necessary precautions to protect both humans and animals while camping in this region. This is not a reflection on the campground itself but rather an environmental factor to be aware of.
The reviewer also shares their personal experience of staying at Grandview Campground for "6 nights" and notes that it was "Never packed; always had some privacy." This suggests that the campground tends to offer a more secluded and less crowded camping experience, enhancing the sense of tranquility and connection with nature. The proximity to "Town for supplies within an hour or less" provides a balance between the remote feel of the campground and the accessibility of essential amenities and services when needed. The reviewer concludes by stating they "Would come back," a strong indication of a positive overall experience.
Considering its listing under "Camping Near Me," Grandview Campground offers a unique combination of natural beauty, tranquility, and essential amenities in a mountain setting near Bishop, CA. The stunning night skies, beautiful mountain views, and the quiet atmosphere are major draws for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The flat and spacious campsites, along with the provision of picnic tables and fire rings, contribute to a comfortable camping experience. While the absence of hookups requires campers to be self-sufficient, it aligns with the more rustic and natural feel of a Forest Service campground.
The lack of cell service can be both a benefit and a challenge, depending on individual preferences and needs. However, for those looking to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in nature, it can enhance the experience. The crucial information regarding plague warnings and the need for flea prevention for pets is an important safety consideration for all visitors.
The fact that the campground is reported to rarely be packed and offers privacy is a significant advantage for those seeking a more solitary or less congested camping experience. The reasonable proximity to town for supplies ensures that essentials are within reach when needed.
For local users searching within the "Camping Near Me" category for a mountain getaway near Bishop, Grandview Campground presents an excellent option for those who appreciate natural beauty, tranquility, and stargazing. The basic amenities provided by the Forest Service ensure a comfortable, albeit rustic, camping experience. The warnings about plague and the lack of cell service are important factors to consider when planning a trip to this area.

Its key features include stunning night skies, beautiful mountain views, quiet and private campsites, and basic amenities such as picnic tables, vault toilets, shade trees, and fire rings. Grandview Campground Reviews
Awesome campground. The stars are amazing at night. Pretty quiet, flat and a decent amount of room. Close to the Sierra overlook.
Oct 08, 2024 · Tyler BeadleNice Forest Service campground. Picnic tables, vault toilets, shade trees and fire rings. No hookups. Beautiful views up in the mountains. No cell service. Plague warnings in all the campgrounds around here; if you bring your pets, make sure they’re on flea preventative. Stayed here 6 nights. Never packed; always had some privacy. Town for supplies within an hour or less. Would come back.
Apr 22, 2024 · Kat DavisLoved it!!! Beautiful and secluded! Loved the scenery, the drive wasn't too bad. I did not have any cell service up here and I have Verizon. From big pine it was about a 40-45 min drive up to the campground. Very windy and narrow roads. There's a section of the road where it goes down to one lane, but it's a small section. Each campsite has a picnic table and firepit. You will need a fire permit, which is easy to get online. They have several vaulted restrooms, but the only one that was open was the one at the entrance of the campground. There were some people being loud unfortunately, but quieted down after 11pm. We took our dogs with us. Loved the clear night sky. We went early April and the weather was great. It did get pretty cold at night and around 5am, about 25°, but overall not bad. It was about a 15 min drive up to the bristlecone pine forest. The drive up was fantastic! Highly, highly recommend.
Apr 14, 2022 · Leo R.Situated in a great loop around a beautiful sage meadow at 8500 feet, Grandview Campground is gorgeous with glimpses of the Sierra Nevada to the west and Deep Springs Lake playa to the southeast. The campsites are spacious and many are quite private. They are all first-come-first-served and there is no fee. However a $10 donation is recommended for upkeep. The USFS website says $5 - clearly hasn't been updated in some time. The official signage at the campground requests $10. Still incredibly reasonable, for all that. There are well-kept pit toilets onsite but there is no running water. You are responsible for transporting any water you may require for the duration of your stay.Grandview is a dark skies campground. As such it is popular with astronomy clubs and stargazers. If you are planning a stay here, pay close attention to what phase the moon is in. It fills up quickly during a new moon.By virtue of the meadow, do be mindful that sound carries very clearly across the area. Please be mindful of your fellow campers as night falls. The visitor center at Schulman Grove is a short drive from the campground; the drive to the Patriarch Grove is an additional 12 miles on dirt roads up to around 11000 feet.
Jun 17, 2019 · Josh PattersonAwesome dark skies. Very out of the way and resides at 8500ft elevation. Decent amount of shade. Had a great time for one night with my four year old. Close to the ancient bristlecone forest. Keep in mind there is no water and all trash needs to be packed out. Will definitely be back - what a hidden gem!
