Baker Creek Campground

Baker Creek Rd, Big Pine, CA 93513, USA

4.0
We loved our campsite number 10 right on the creek. But I think they're pretty much all right on the creek. Our stretch of the campground had sites 8-12 and we were the only one in this stretch, and it was awesome. As others have noted, the campground is very dusty/sandy, so I had been trying to get a spot that wouldn't be passed by many cars, and number 10 was great. There was an outhouse nearby, and I had seen a couple of other ones on our drive to the site. No water is available at this campground - unless you want to count Baker Creek, which had a lot more water in it than I thought it would (the dogs loved splashing around in it!). The campsites had picnic tables and fire ringsThe campground was quiet, except for the babble of the creek, and I felt safe there. The stars were incredible. - Leslie Smith

For those in search of "Camping Near Me" in the picturesque region of Big Pine, California, Baker Creek Campground, situated along Baker Creek Rd, Big Pine, CA 93513, USA, offers a unique camping experience immersed in nature. A recurring highlight in the reviews is the campground's stunning location directly alongside Baker Creek. Many campsites, including the favored number 10, are described as being "right on the creek," offering the soothing sounds of flowing water and easy access for activities like splashing for dogs. One reviewer noted that their stretch of the campground (sites 8-12) felt particularly secluded, enhancing the sense of tranquility. The presence of the creek not only adds to the scenic beauty but also provides natural "white noise," which some campers found helpful in masking sounds from other campsites located across the way.

The natural environment of Baker Creek Campground is characterized by its dusty and sandy terrain. One visitor specifically sought a site, like number 10, with less vehicle traffic to mitigate dust. While the roads within the campground are noted as being dusty and rutted, the overall atmosphere is generally described as quiet, primarily punctuated by the "babble of the creek." Campers have also appreciated the feeling of safety within the campground, allowing for a more relaxed and secure experience. The night sky at Baker Creek Campground is reportedly incredible, offering fantastic opportunities for stargazing away from city lights.

In terms of amenities, each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, essential for outdoor dining and campfires. Restroom facilities are available in the form of outhouses, with several located throughout the campground. It is important to note that no potable water is available at Baker Creek Campground. Campers rely on Baker Creek itself as a water source for non-drinking purposes, as highlighted by the enjoyment dogs found in splashing in it. Therefore, visitors must come prepared with their own drinking water and a plan for other water needs.

The location of Baker Creek Campground is considered a pro by some, being approximately 15-20 minutes outside of town, offering a convenient escape into nature without being too remote. The proximity to trails is another significant advantage, providing opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding area. The availability of trash and recycling bins is also appreciated by campers who value responsible waste management.

However, there are some cons to consider. Several reviewers mentioned that not all tent sites are level, which may require some maneuvering or the use of rocks, as one camper at site #24 did to level their picnic table. The tent sites are also described as being relatively close together, which could lead to a less private experience during peak season when the campground is more crowded. The sound of the creek, while generally considered pleasant "white noise," was noted by one camper to be quite loud when the water level was high, potentially causing nighttime disturbances for light sleepers who are sensitive to running water sounds.

Another factor to be aware of is the presence of insects, with one camper recounting a battle with a mosquito. Bringing insect repellent is advisable, especially during warmer months. Additionally, observations were made of areas within the campground where RVs were parked, indicating that Baker Creek Campground accommodates both tent and RV campers, although specific details about RV hookups and amenities are not provided in these reviews.

In summary, Baker Creek Campground offers a naturally beautiful camping experience centered around the creek-side environment near Big Pine, CA. Its pros include the scenic location, the soothing sounds of the creek, a generally quiet atmosphere, clean restrooms, access to trails, and pet-friendly policies. However, potential drawbacks include dusty and rutted roads, uneven tent sites, potentially close proximity of sites during busy periods, the lack of potable water, and the presence of insects. For local users seeking "Camping Near Me" with a focus on natural beauty and a creek-side setting, Baker Creek Campground is worth considering. However, it is essential to be prepared for the conditions mentioned in the reviews, particularly the lack of water and the potential for dust and insects. Contacting the campground directly at the provided phone numbers can offer more specific information regarding site availability, RV amenities (if any), and any current conditions or recommendations for visitors.
