Tinnemaha Creek Campground Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts and stargazers searching for "Camping Near Me" in the breathtaking Eastern Sierra region of California, Tinnemaha Creek Campground offers a serene and authentic high-desert camping experience. Located at 2060 Tinemaha Rd, Big Pine, CA 93513, USA, this campground is a perfect escape for those looking to disconnect from city life and immerse themselves in nature.
You can contact Tinnemaha Creek Campground for inquiries at (760) 873-5564 or +1 760-873-5564. As is common with many more rustic or national forest campgrounds, it's advisable to check for current conditions, availability, and any fire restrictions before planning your visit.
The environment of Tinnemaha Creek Campground is truly what sets it apart. Situated in the high desert landscape of the Owens Valley, it offers stunning panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west and the White Mountains to the east. The campground is nestled alongside the "nice creek" of Tinnemaha, providing a refreshing natural water source that is "perfect for cooling off after hiking & baking in the sun!" This proximity to the creek contributes to a more pleasant microclimate within the campground compared to the broader desert. The vegetation is typical of a high desert environment, with sparse trees providing some shade, but generally open skies. The air quality is exceptionally clean, and one of the most celebrated features is the "night sky full of stars," making it an ideal location for astrophotography and stargazing. The overall atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, especially compared to more developed campgrounds, as noted by a reviewer highlighting it as "an absolutely gorgeous spot to get away from the city."
Tinnemaha Creek Campground provides essential services and features for a classic camping experience, focusing on rustic charm rather than luxury. It is explicitly stated that the "campsite does not have beds, electricity or any other 'hotel amenities'," indicating it's a dry camping or primitive camping experience. Campers should "come ready to park and set up camp!" Despite its rustic nature, it offers crucial amenities that enhance comfort and safety:
Vault Toilets: Reviewers confirm the presence of "vault toilets," which are kept "clean," a vital facility for any campground.
Fire Pits: Each site is equipped with "fire pits," allowing campers to have controlled campfires (subject to local fire restrictions).
Creek Access: The direct access to Tinnemaha Creek is a significant feature, offering opportunities for cooling off and enjoyment.
Affordable Fee: At " $14 per night fee," it offers a very budget-friendly option for an authentic camping experience.
Individual Campsites: While not explicitly detailed in quantity, the reviews suggest individual sites are available for tents and potentially small RVs or vans, given the dry camping nature.
Group Friendly: One reviewer specifically noted that "If you're coming with a group, Tinnemaha is perfect," suggesting it can accommodate multiple campers or vehicles together, or that certain sites are larger.
Customer reviews paint a clear picture of Tinnemaha Creek Campground's appeal and characteristics. The clean vault toilets, the refreshing creek, and the spectacular night sky are consistently highlighted as major positives. The straightforward "park and set up camp" nature of the campground is clearly communicated, managing expectations for those accustomed to more amenity-rich sites. The low daily fee makes it very attractive. The emphasis on it being a great place "to get away from the city" resonates with those seeking solitude and a genuine outdoor experience. The recommendation for "a desert visit" underscores its unique high desert setting. The fact that the creek is perfect for cooling off after "hiking & baking in the sun" speaks to both the climate and the recreational opportunities in the vicinity.

Affordable Getaway: Its low nightly fee makes it an accessible option for budget-conscious campers seeking a peaceful escape.
Gateway to Eastern Sierra Adventures: Its location near Big Pine provides access to a wealth of outdoor activities in the Inyo National Forest and Owens Valley, including extensive hiking trails (like those leading to Palisade Glacier), rock climbing, fishing in local streams and lakes, and exploring unique desert landscapes.
Peace and Quiet: Stressing its secluded nature and the opportunity to escape urban noise and light pollution.
Pet-Friendly: While not explicitly stated in reviews, many primitive campgrounds in national forest areas are generally pet-friendly (on leash), which could be a strong draw for animal lovers.

Jun 30, 2024 · Cameron LjungkullI don't know how to use the "rooms" or "service" stars option as this is just a campground but we came here and just used the area for the day and absolutely loved it.It is super remote and there was only one other person in the entire camp when we were there and we never saw them. We just saw their RV. There were some big trucks that utilize the main road but they didn't interfere with us at all.It is very quiet and has a wonderful stream running through it that is absolutely full of trout! Super cool... We will absolutely be going back!
Apr 09, 2024 · Phillip BookerAmazing view, nice clean creek for when its summer and u need to cool off. They offer blocks of ice at the chevron nearby too. Watch iut for cows on the drive tho! Almost hit one!
Jun 27, 2024 · JustForYouTube123this is an amazing gem! Warm weather next to snow-capped mountains - bliss! I was here in beginning of June & the weather was PERFECT - a sharp contrast from the Santa Cruz mountains I just come from where I was freezing! the evenings were so incredibly pleasant & while the sun did beat down during the day, it was time to just hang out in a shade structure whether it's your own or under some of the big trees by the river! (bring a hammock to hang by or over the river!) (you can also fish for trout!) I will definitely come back & I'm told it's very easy to drop in without a reservation as the place is not very well known.
