Absolutely gorgeous! Views and access to the river and a boat launch in a lagoon. Also trails around. There are 8 spots and it's first come first serve. There are metal "bear boxes" for keeping your food in too! Remember to bring your own firewood! There is a nice out house and multiple garbage and recycling bins too, so you don't have to pack your trash out. My husband and I will definitely be going again. Oh and you will need your bug spray. - Liz Monroe

Gorge Lake Campground Introduce

For those in the Rockport, Washington area or planning a visit and searching for "camping near me," Gorge Lake Campground, located in Rockport, WA 98283, USA, offers an idyllic camping experience in a breathtaking natural setting. You can reach them at (360) 854-7200 or +1 360-854-7200. Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, this campground is renowned for its absolutely gorgeous scenery, providing stunning views and convenient access to both the river and a boat launch situated in a lagoon. It also boasts nearby trails for hiking enthusiasts. With a limited number of campsites and a first-come, first-served policy, it's a charming and potentially serene getaway for those who arrive early enough to secure a spot.

The environment surrounding Gorge Lake Campground is truly spectacular, as highlighted by multiple reviewers. The campground offers direct access to the Skagit River, a major waterway in the region known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. The presence of a boat launch into a lagoon suggests calm waters suitable for launching small watercraft, allowing campers to explore the lake and enjoy water-based activities. The "absolutely gorgeous" views are a central feature, likely encompassing the river, the lagoon, and the surrounding forested landscape of the North Cascades. The availability of trails around the campground caters to hikers of varying abilities, offering opportunities to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the area and potentially enjoy panoramic vistas. The mention of metal "bear boxes" indicates that the campground is located in bear country, and these secure storage containers are provided to ensure the safety of campers and wildlife by preventing bears from accessing food supplies. The presence of a "nice out house" (vault toilet) and multiple garbage and recycling bins contributes to the cleanliness and convenience of the campground, allowing campers to dispose of waste properly without needing to pack it out.

In terms of services and features, Gorge Lake Campground is described as a small facility with only 8 campsites. This limited number of sites contributes to a potentially more intimate and less crowded camping experience compared to larger campgrounds. However, it also means that securing a spot can be competitive, especially during peak seasons and weekends, given its popularity and the first-come, first-served policy. As no reservations are accepted, prospective campers need to plan accordingly and arrive early to claim an available site. The provision of bear boxes at each campsite is a significant feature, ensuring food safety in bear territory. The presence of a vault toilet offers a basic restroom facility, while the multiple garbage and recycling bins promote responsible waste management and help maintain the cleanliness of the area. Campers are reminded to bring their own firewood, indicating that campfires are likely permitted in designated fire rings or personal stoves, subject to any local fire restrictions in place. The proximity to the river and the boat launch are key features for those interested in water-based activities. Additionally, the presence of nearby trails caters to those who enjoy hiking and exploring the surrounding natural environment.

One reviewer noted that the campsites are located close to the road, but the road is reportedly "pretty quiet," which suggests that while there might be some vehicular traffic, it is not likely to be a major disturbance to the camping experience. Another interesting point mentioned is the occurrence of a siren announcing a dam release, which was a surprise to one visitor on a Saturday evening. This indicates the presence of a dam in the vicinity, likely related to the hydroelectric facilities in the Skagit River Gorge. While the siren might be unexpected, it serves as a notification for safety reasons related to water levels in the river. Campers should be aware of this possibility and any safety guidelines related to dam operations.
